What have you "taken away" from the show?

Outside of the entertainment factor, what have you "taken away" from the show?

Has it inspired you to be more thoughtful, or appreciative? Have you come out of your shell to others, or accepted yourself more because of it?

Or is it something you watch when you're just feeling down and need some positivity?

I'm curious as to how the show has impacted the lives of others. Thanks for sharing. ❤️

The show inspired me to get back to making figurines after a looong break. I learned a bunch of new techniques and improved as a crafter... But that's pretty much it!

Nothing. It is just a cartoon.

Well of course! But don't people feel inspired from good books, good music? This is really no different

So you picked up an old creative hobby/outlet. That's actually pretty great.

For me, if I'm feeling a little under the weather or annoyed, browsing through a folder of cute/funny pony pics is a good remedy. The show also helped me (re)gain my interest in drawing. :muffins:

Other than that, I'm more positive and cheerful, and less whiny, than what I used to be. Though, there are more (and larger) contributors that led to that than MLP:FiM.

What about you?

Haha, I actually edited my original post because I realised that it was more than picking up an old hobby. :D I learned a lot since I got back to sculpting and I'm looking forward to improving even more!

So... Yes, the show is a big source of inspiration to me.  :squee:

I'll second the "re sparking an interest in drawing", as well as the "had a bad day just want something cheerful". I can say though that there were a few episodes that just kind of sparked change. It's all of the lessons we were raised with but kind of lose sight of as we get older. Like you, there were plenty of other things going on in my life that began when I decided to change my 'tude, but those little reminders helped. Primarily to not be as overly critical to myself or others.

If it weren't for the show, I wouldn't have met my incomparable and extraordinary partner Babe.  With her help, I've made more progress concerning my condition in the past year and three quarters than I had in the fifteen years prior.  Having Babe in my life has changed everything for the better; I'm more comfortable in my own skin and enjoy things more.

If it weren't for the show, I wouldn't have met one of the closest friends I've ever had.  There are things I can talk to them about that I haven't told anyone else (excepting Babe, technically).  In a way, they've helped me get closer to my partner, and that's something of tremendous value to me.

If it weren't for the show, I wouldn't have developed my art.  What ability I possessed beforehand had more or less stagnated, and I wasn't at all motivated to improve.  I've also a constant muse, now, in Babe. x3

There are some negatives that have come from taking an interest the show; though many (if not most) of them are related to the fandom or to this forum.  But I would never dream of trading away the positives to undo the negatives; I've come away with far too much.

I've taken away that it's possible for a large group of grown men to obsess over a show intended for children.

I'll be honest in saying that this is as far as I've gone in an attempt to meet other bronies. BUT I've been browsing YouTube for a few weeks and I've heard a lot of this: Meeting new friends and loved ones.

I think it's really great that you've been fortunate enough to meet some worthwhile people in the fandom. And I'm glad those friendships/relationships have helped you in your own life.

Well, through the fandom, I've cast aside my bigotry; I used to be quite homophobic. I also stopped being a jerk in general.

On the other hand, I have withdrawn more into my shell. Not because of the show, but because I am more ashamed of myself to be actively social. I still have friends I talk to at school, but my parents actually sent me to a therapist.

For a while, it got me interested in drawing, but I gave it up, because my drawings just suck.

Other than that, it is indeed something I like to watch when I am considerably sad or stressed out.

It showed me that I shouldn't be afraid of letting others into my life and my issues. I used to be more secretive and pushed people away, especially my friends.

Dashie would not have come into my life to save me from my depression and rage, so I owe it to her. It has been the best five years of my life and I intend to spend all of the rest with her.

For me, the show stimulates a lot of abstract thought and helps me develop complex emotions for things like television and media on the internet. For reasons that I've yet to be able to put into a coherent explanation, the attitude and spirit of the show inspire in me a desire to keep discovering how everything in the world is connected. Right now, I think that the whole narrative of the show's success is just astonishing, and the show and culture surrounding it so fascinating, that it practically demands one to think about it so one can take something positive and meaningful away from experiencing MLP. I'm also deeply curious to see what kind of legacy MLP imparts on our culture after it's all over.

So, in other words, what I've taken away (so far, at least) is a short glimpse at something beautiful that lets me discover more about the world and myself. It really is magic.

That a lot of different people that like the same thing and it can lead to friendship?

Actually, like a few other people, it did help me gain an interest in drawing again-- Things that weren't just humans at least.

I've always been a pretty open and relaxed person. But the show and the people around it have come to consistently remind me that everyone needs to chill out and not be so judgemental. That it's okay to like things, simply because you like them. I think I'd be a lot more cold to content and people outside my 'demographic', were I to have never seen MLPFiM. I just recently finished watching Steven Universe(decided to take it up a couple weeks ago). I doubt I'd ever have been so open to it otherwise.

Not directly from the show, i started dedicating myself to programming after watching Fighting is Magic and a bunch of pony fan games. Although sonic fan games was the one started it

I think rather than it teaching me anything in particular, it more reminds me of lessons that I've learned in the past and started to ignore? its hard to explain lmao but sometimes I come away from an episode after a pony recites what she has learned to Princess Celestia and I'm like...wow that's actually a good point/I should remember to be more like that.

Before I watched the show you would hear about fans saying how much they learned from mlp and i would scoff, like how can you learn something from a show for children? but after becoming (probably) too invested in the show for my own good hahah I can totally agree with that. as we get older we start to sort of ignore the simpler sides of things and become more interested in complicated dramas and just.....things that dont focus on the positive side of life? so going back to our roots and thinking about what lessons we can learn just from staying positive and loving each other is pretty important imo.

and other than that, it just makes me happy to watch!!!! SO VERY HAPPY!

At first, my answer would be the same as the first reply (shout out to that guy), but as time went on, it completely changed my life.

I got into a side of animation and art I never knew I even had. Now I practice almost everyday, where if I never watched the show, I'd likely be playing video games or something.

Not a bad hobby, but far less productive.
