gaming Ratchet and Clank PS4/Movie: Success or Flop?

I am hardcore fan of the PS2 era of Ratchet and Clank. I don't hate the Future trilogy on PS3, I have played them, I am more attached to the older games. I am actually gonna go back and play the Future trilogy to get a perspective on it. But in regards to the new game and the movie coming this month. It's not the reboot game I am worried about, this game will sell and make a profit and get high reviews. The movie though... Can the movie make at least $80m? I am not expecting it to even get over $70m. The move needs to be about $80m to be a success. For a video game movie, slightly under $100m is a financial success. This isn't a Marvel movie so Insomniac isn't expecting hundreds-millions of dollars.

I hope the movie does succeed.

I'm a big long-time R&C fan. Very surprised that there's a movie- but the characters are all CGI to begin with so I guess it makes sense. Still, they'd need to get people who aren't fans of the series, who have never heard of it, to watch it too, for it to be successful. I don't know how that'll happen.

The trailer certainly looks like it's going to be an entertaining movie, so let's hope it doesn't flop on us. I remember playing R&C back in my PS2 days. Great game, wish it wasn't just a PS exclusive title.

I think the trend of "bad" video game movies is long over. I'm sure the lesson has been learned by filmmakers. I just hope that the Ratchet and Clank movie is at least taken seriously.

 

I'm afraid that people will just disregard it as a video game movie not worth their time. Every time I bring it up in conversation, most people haven't even heard of it yet.

 

Anyway, unnecessary pessimism aside, I hope it does well.

I'm crossing my fingers it'll be good. It's written by the writers from Insomniac who worked on the R&C games, so they should know what they're doing.

 

I'm actually more worried about the game, since it's largely a remake of the first game just remade to follow the movie and with a few extra weapons and things taken from other games like the Rangers and Dr. Nefarious. Granted, I've played the first game more than once (had to get the RYNO), though I do wonder if Chairman Drek will be just as hard in the remake as he was in the original.

Well, it seems this is on both ends of this spectrum. The game seems to be a huge success, winning over many critics and is apparently a great game overall.

 

 

The movie, however, has apparently not won critics over. It apparently has a bad story, bad humor and all around is boring. 

 

 

I haven't played the game or seen the movie so I can't say for myself, but I am honestly not too surprised about this outcome for both of them.

i never played the games but i saw the movie (since i work at a movie theater) it was ok ya the humor was meh not bad or great just...meh i got like a chuckle or two out of it and ofcouce they had to put a fart joke in it....at least they didnt make the noise thank god but i think if i was going to play the game i shouldve just played the game instead of watching the movie or i just spoiled myself for the game so its kinda pointless to play it now.

I'm betting the Warcraft movie's going to flop too, because the odds are not in their favor at all. 

 

Video game movies don't work because that interaction that helps keeps you invested in the story is gone. Its the same reason the movie is never better than the book; there is always something lost in translation. However with video games you lose even MORE in translation than you do with a book because people no longer can interact with it.

Considering the abysmally low bar set by sonic boom, I'd imagine the only direction that show COULD have gone was up. I watched an episode of SB, it was mediocre but ultimately harmless.

The game was really really good and one of the best Ratchet and Clank games i've played. It's the best selling Ratchet and Clank game at the moment and it's number 1 at the video game charts for two straight weeks.

 

I liked the movie and thought that it was good but it could have been better. It's a shame that the movie seems to have failed at the box office and the critics.

Ratchet and Clank has been one of my favorite game series since I was no more than 6. I've always enjoyed the destruction the games brought and loved the many weapons it had to offer. The movie is something I'm looking forward to see, if it be in theaters or on DVD. I just can't wait! My only wish is that when they release the remake of Ratchet and Clank, they would have it for the PS3 as well.

The main problem with the movie is that it looks like they didn't even try, and likely made it a bit too close to the game. I haven't seen the film myself so I can't judge it, but it looks things could've been better. This doesn't leave me with good feelings regarding the upcoming Sly Cooper film.
