How will the Mane 6 battle future villains

The same way that they have always been.

By firing a gigantic rainbow beam of friendship at their enemy.

Well, we need a season premiere. Shouldn't the villain do something that removes their powers until the end of part 2?

Or they could defeat their enemy Season 5 finale style. You know, guilt-tripping the enemy into giving away their tragic origin story. That way you can use it to guilt-trip them again into being good. If it worked on Starlight, why not use it on the big bad?

It's a bit of a cluche but I'd like to see a season premiere or finale where some dark magic corrupts Twilight and she becomes evil for an episode or two.
The Mane 6 including Starlight must find a way to reach what is left of Twilight and get their friend back, and its ultimately Starlight who manages to get through to Twilight and assist her in expelling the darkness.

Assuming the Mane 6 will be the heroes of a future season premiere, how will they defeat future villains? I guess I'm just feeling nostalgic.

Why not transformation powerups like in Mario? That's what we saw in the "leaked" season 6 animatic.

The problem there is you have to introduce new reasons for the powerups, which would most likely be macguffins of some sort; And the most likely (and best) way to do that would be to link it in some way with the Elements of harmony, and the writers seem to be hesitant to fiddle with those because, plotwise, they have alot of potential to screw up stories (which is almost assuredly why they sealed them away).

Like, if the mane six can transform into super forms whenever they need to, then you have issues where you want to threaten them or put them in danger (like garble for example threatening Twilight and Rarity), as fans will then ask "Why didn't they just go Super saiyan and beat the crap out of them? (Like how everyone asked for the crystal empire "Shouldn't they have just taken the elements of harmony and auto-won?").

As a secondary problem, Toys. Toys have a big amount of control over things, and hasbro tends to demand time and effort be put on advertising what they can sell, and Unless there's toys of them in these super forms, hasbro will probably not want to go down that route. Now, With Power ponies being such a hit with fans that they were forced to make collectors toys of them, and with the guardians of harmony toyline coming up it seems far more likely. But We have zero Indication of any super form toys from the Toyfair (Just explore equestria toys), so It doesn't look like there's any plan in the near future at least for super form toys.

So basically Friendship games.

Yes but that's not our Twilight, its human world Twilight.

I'm just pointing out that the plot's already been done, so for people who's seen FG already it'd be just redoing a plotline and would run a very heavy risk of being stale.

What if the villian doesn't have a tragic backstory and doesn't want to be reformed?

Starlight Shimmer was weak, that would never have worked on an A-grade villain like Lord Tirek. :)

The OP poses a very good question though, we've seen plenty of antagonists brought low by friendship, and a few by rainbow particle beams (of friendship), so what have they still got in the toolbox for next time?  After all, I don't think main force of arms is really their style.

By using their physical and mental capabilities. I don't want to see another easy and quick win with "rainbow power". Having other ponies participate in the fight, or fights, would be nice, too.

I'd wouldn't mind seeing them getting stomped by a villain. The Mane 6 has gotten too many easy wins, so they need a concrete taste of defeat.

I'm just holding out for Chrysalis coming back and planning to kidnap Flurry Heart to use her as a food source for her hive

Babies seem to adore anyone who shows them affection so all Chrysalis has to do is play nice and she's got an infinite supply of love until Flurry starts screaming and nukes her into next week

>implying "A kid I knew moved away" is a tragic backstory ;p

I don't know, it worked in Power ponies; plus they've done it a couple times in the comics.

It would be a nice change of pace to have the mane six work together to beat a villain and could be a way to plug the guardians of harmony toyline.

The act of trying to alter time itself should be punishable by several lifelines of imprisonment in Tartarus that's where Starlight should be.

When Friendship IS Magic, every pony who doesn't want friends will either be sentenced to being good all along (They are that way because of a secondary cause, and can be redeemed) or to being evil for the sake of evil, and being killed off (And then they will be redeemed outside of the show's cannon; in the MLP comics, or just in some writer's sympathetic fantasy).

1. Some ally builds a giant robot that our heroes need to work together to control.

2. Magical energy can be created, perhaps the villain uses this, our heroes also powerup using it as well.

There is like an infinite number of ways this can be done.

The DBZ battle part. That was the best fight period ever period.

Problem here is that Twilight's normally way less powerful than that; Her fight against Starlight was about the extent of her normal power, and while that was good, its not quite up there with the Tirek fight. :P
