food Bags of air

How do you guys feel when you buy a snack, maybe chips, pretzels, whatever. And you rip into it, and see....that the company stole your dang food! The bag that you bought of whatever is half full.

Should you pay and get a FULL bag of yummy edibles? Does getting a half stinkin' bag deter you from buying it again and again?

That's why they're sold by weight rather than volume - 750g of cornflakes will remain 750g of cornflakes (sometimes 'dried weight' is also used if the food comes stored in a liquid, such as tuna.) That said, some packets are deliberately misleading - I find yoghurts the most egregious, as some have raised bases that make the pot look substantially larger than it is, but it's not a huge deal as I tend to buy according to price per unit weight anyway.

Yep, all of the time. I assumed that the bags are filled with air to provide a cushion for transportation and to prevent rancidity.

Yeah, as some people have already said, there's a reason for the air. It helps keep the food fresh and keeps it from getting stale in the long term

I'm aware of that. But you still should be paying for a full bag of what you're buying

Well, who said you didn't? I mean we never got an explicit thing saying you're paying for a full bag. Just that you're paying for chips. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying we might already pay half price

Yeah, it was say X weight of chips. And that is how many chips you are paying for, it is not like they are saying you get X chips and you get Y. They are not cheating you, they are selling you a product. BTW if they did not put the air in them you would get stale, crushed chips and I don't think you would want that.

This has bothered me before, but it really is only an issue with small bags, snack size. In that case half of the bag is filled and that is odd, but others have said there is a purpose to it so, I will go with that.

As some have mentioned earlier, there's a reason for that. Technically speaking, they're not full of air, but of a mixture of nitrogen that prevents the chips from oxidizing and going stale.

The bag has information about how much is in them. The air is to protect the product so you don't just get crumbles.

if you don't like a product, then don't buy it. Don't support a market that screws you over in any way.
