EQ_Theta 472 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 I don't remember where I read this from but I thought the reason why there aren't too many adventure episodes was because there was a tight production schedule back then when the show was being conceptualized. The workload would've been too much for the animators. Honestly though, I still prefer slice of life over adventure episodes.
ponylaces 1,870 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 (edited) For me, slice of life seems to never get old. It's a good way of storytelling and it works very well in the show. I think we have a good amount of action/adventure stuff in the show, but I do agree that it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more (especially this season). Mesme Rize 15,692 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 If this show was adventure heavy, i probably wouldn't watch it. Mesme Rize 15,692 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 Then you probably wouldn't watch a Guardians of Harmony show if there will be one? To be quite honest, i actually wouldn't. For me, this is trying way too hard, to make ponies tasty for a certain demographic, eventhough the current MLP is good as it is. 2 My OC Mesme Rize: >https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mesme-rize-r8777 Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. Mesme Rize 15,692 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 You wouldn't even give it a chance? MLP:FiM is the only cartoon i watch these days, because most action oriented cartoons don't speak to me. MLP is something very special to me, because it has a very nice tone to it. Give it an action oriented tone and it would be like most other cartoons and that really interests me. But that's me. BTW, let's not go too off-topic here. 1 My OC Mesme Rize: >https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/mesme-rize-r8777 Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. cmarston1 5,962 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 I am more disappointed that we only see the same few locations over and over again. I want to see more than just Ponyville, Canterlot, Manehatten, and the Crystal Empire. There has been an official map released for the show filed with a lot of locations that could be really interesting, but we never get to see any of them. Megas 28,059 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 (edited) FiM shines in Slice of Life stories while it's Adventure stories has mostly been a mixed bag at best Then you probably wouldn't watch a Guardians of Harmony show if there will be one? I'm also in the camp that thinks GoH is trying too hard to appeal to boys, even though the show is fine as is. Only way I could find myself watching a GoH show is if they make it an action comedy and just have fun with it. Otherwise I won't even bother Literally the only reason I like the toyline right now is the fact that they finally have movable joints Edited July 6, 2016 by Jefferson Steelflex

The premieres and finales are always way better than the inbetween episodes for me. That's like comparing Gold and Silver bars though. Love them both, but the adventure ones are better imo. I hope Guardians of Harmony delivers.
Ruddboy Olaf 10,628 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 Yes,way too much. If I wanted to watch friends and dilemmas,I'd watch a sitcom. But,this is a cartoon. We should be getting more adventure, more action, and more bad guys to love/hate. The only time we ever see that it is in the season finales. chronos911 22 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 (edited) I agree, the story needs to take itself more seriously or it will just be another goofy cartoon about internet memes and rainbow dash going to daring do conventions. That's not what I want to see from this series and that's not what this show is known for. Give me action, suspense, wonder, love, hate, friendship or something that will actually invoke emotion. I want to be excited about this show again. Season 6 doesn't feel like it's heading towards anything. Nothing exciting is happening. Like I couldn't care less about Rarity opening her new boutique. That is just not interesting what so ever. Edited July 6, 2016 by chronos911
Prince Firemane 309 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 To be honest, I'm sick of slice of life episodes. It worked in the beginning when we were still learning the quarks and nuances that actually add to the quality of their characters. Rarity getting a new boutique works on a basic level because it's a step in the achievement of her dream. Rainbow becoming a Wonderbolts works the same way for the same reason. However, they're all bogged down by that that they're giant meme generators. It really strikes me that people here have accused a more action-oriented direction as trying too hard to appeal to others than the target demographic, yet there has been no mention of how slice of life episodes now do nothing but try to appeal to us older bronies by constantly referencing memes or reinforcing ideas that the brony community as a whole demands to be true. At least action-oriented episodes actually try to tell some kind of story or try to add to the richness of the world in which they live.

I hope Guardians of Harmony delivers. @@Prince Firemane Slice of life has far more appeal for a few reasons: SoL stories provide a much simpler structure. The simpler structure allows the writers to go from one point to another better, so it becomes easier for the audience to follow, too. The simpler structure also allows the audience to enjoy the quality of the product more if it's well-made. FIM is a character-driven show. The audience loves the dimension they present and want to see them grow. SoL allows the writers to focus primarily on the characters. Adventure stories often fall into the trap of sacrificing character for the action and adventure around it; this show is no exception. Since Return of Harmony, every two-parter outside of the last three fell into this trap; the Mane Six brawling with the Changelings and Twilight vs. Tirek are pointless fluff. Each EQG film has at least one scene of action or adventure that lacks any sense and is only there to create forced tension. In EQG1, it's the climax. In FG, it's Event #2. In RR, it's the argument under the stage. The two-parters between Return of Harmony and The Cutie Map reinforced the notion that FIM is "Twilight Is Magic." How? By making Twilight the main star while shoving the princesses and ReMane Five in the sidelines for inane or sloppy reasons (from allowing Celly and Luna to be easily kidnapped to handing the ReMane Five/AliTrio the Idiot Ball to Celly treating the lives of everyone in TCE as less important than Twilight's test). The Cutie Re-Mark is the only Twilight-centric two-parter done well. Collectively, the slice-of-life episodes are objectively better than the adventure episodes. DHX has executed adventure episodes well in the past (Sleepless in Ponyville), but writing adventure is one of DHX's biggest weaknesses. They write slice of life better than adventure. What are some of the best episodes of the show? To name a few, Pinkie Pride, Hurricane Fluttershy, Testing Testing, Suited for Success, Crusaders of the Lost Mark, Lesson Zero, Sisterhooves Social, Flight to the Finish, Slice of Life, Amending Fences, The Saddle Row Review, and The Mane Attraction. All of these are slice of life. If a team writes slice of life better than adventure, then the audience will gravitate more to the slice of life episodes. Swifty 249 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 Celestia can only lose in adventure thanks to the writers. Also the Mane 5 lately, so i'm fine with less adventure and more slice of life. Dark Qiviut 22,582 July 6, 2016 Share July 6, 2016 (edited) Man, you sure have a funny way of spelling subjectively. Nope, I mean objectively. FIM isn't designed for Dragonball ripoffs or empty fight scenes. We're here because FIM's a character-driven show: If we didn't care about the characters, then FIM wouldn't blossom into popularity with staying power. What genre executes character-driven conflicts better? Slice of life. DHX uses the genre to its advantage. Most of the best episodes are slice-of-life. Collectively, the adventure episodes aren't as well-written as the slice-of-life ones.
