Michael Phelps will always be one of my favorite Olympic athletes. I was too young to pay attention when he competed in Athens, but he won me over in Beijing with his incredible performance. A lot of people wrote him off after his DUI arrest in 2014, but you know what? That changed him and he became a better person with a better work ethic.

 

Though Phelps' teammate Nathan Adrian thinks he will be back in 2020, Phelps says he wants to move on to other things. I don't blame him; he needed Rio to prove that he still had the drive to succeed, but now he really has nothing left to prove. It's best to retire now while he's still at the top of his game.

I think it's great that a man with such extraordinary natural abilities can continue to astonish the world with them. If you've got it, use it. I hope he uses what he has for as long as he can and keeps on inspiring the world.
