animation Thoughts on Mighty Magiswords?

What are your opinions on Cartoon Network's newest show, Mighty Magiswords, it's based on a series of web shorts that debuted last year, but has just yesterday premired as a full series. Having seen both a handful of the shorts, and an episode of the proper series, I can definitely see this show is going to have acquired taste written all over it. A common criticism so far is that it's too fast paced for it's own good, to an extent, I can agree. What I've from the show was nothing groundbreaking, but it looks like a fun distraction to watch on occasion. Your enjoyment will definitely depend on whether you like fast-paced humor. If you like stuff like None Piece, or Zero Punctuation, you'll probably find this okay. It's fast paced nature does mean the humor is very hit and miss. A joke that land would almost immediately be followed by a joke that fails. But overall, it's harmless sugar rush best enjoyed in moderation. At the very least, it does Teen Titans Go!'s shtick way better. Oh, and Dan from GameGrumps sings the intro theme. Make of that what you will.

Not going to lie I see the vast potential of this show. The character designs are unique and in my opinion appealing, the magiswords themselves have vast potential for humor and maybe a few cool moments hopefully in the future. But, like any new series it may take a while before the show gets into the rhythm where the comedy starts to cement and characters start to grow. Right now it's fairly fast paced and  I often found myself not laughing at the jokes. Currently, the show is just average, but I see the potential and I wholeheartedly want the show to become popular.

You know what the show feels like though? A legally made abridged series of an anime. In this case, The Slayers. If you want, you could call this "Slayers: The Unofficial Abridged Series". Edited by TheMisterManGuy

It's visually a lot different than CN's other shows right now, but I just think that the show is ok.

But if this was able to get a full fledged series after being web shorts, I am hoping the same can happen for OK KO! Lakewood Plaza Turbo.

I totally agree! The aesthetic felt very slayer like, maybe it was just the outfits that got me thinking it, the long haired male companion helped with the comparison as well. I wouldn't really call it an abridged series though, just a kid friendlier version, more westernized maybe?

Well watching the show, the dialogue definitely feels like some abridged version of an anime, like something PurpleEyesFTW would make, only a kid friendly version of one.

Well apparently what Cartoon Network is doing currently, is establishing new properties through other means first, before they debut as a show. They're already did it with Mighty Magiswords, which as previously mentioned, was first established as a web series, before making it's premire as a full length series. So I wouldn't be surprised if OK K.O. is getting a similar treatment. Edited by TheMisterManGuy

While the show is okay, I'm still not returning to watching Cartoon Network until they escape from the dark ages and go back to restoring the majority of good shows from the early/mid 2000's and the 90's. If the parents get too overprotective over a bit of action, then they have no real understanding of true, quality cartoons.

Uh... What dark age? This is the same network that houses Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, We Bare Bears, Gumball, and it's somehow in a dark age? Even Uncle Grandpa and Clarence aren't even that bad. Aside from Teen Titans Go to hell and Diet Powerpuff, there's nothing on CN currently that's objectively bad.

You seem to forget the good shows like the original Powerpuff Girls, original Teen Titans, DC Nation (which resulted in a massive backlash when CN removed it), Codename KND, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory, Baby Looney Tunes, Ben 10, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Ed Edd N Eddy, ReBoot, Johnny Quest, and even Cow and Chicken. Oh, and maybe Camp Lazlo to put it simply.

Object however you wish, but I should know; the shows CN provided before they ultimately shot themselves in the foot were the best, compared to the modern ones nowadays (aside from Regular Show, Steven Universe and Adventure Time). Sorry to say, but it seems CN has become completely devoid of their past gems, so it pretty much went down the gutter. Yes, I can still watch any of them on Boomerang, but they're randomly selected by their choices.

Well, you can still watch them online through outlets like iTunes and Hulu. Besides, I don't mean to force you to like something, but I think you're letting Nostalgia blind you a bit too much. While many of the shows you listed are indeed quite good, I don't think you've given some of Cartoon Network's other newer shows a fair chance. Aside from Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Seven Universe, there's We Bare Bears, Uncle Grandpa is basically the modern day Cow and Chicken, Gumball is still going, and even Clarence isn't too bad either. Unfortunately, that chance came and went after they tarnished a really good original that is Powerpuff Girls. Uncle Grandpa is basically like Cow and Chicken, only with poorly-executed humor that even other reviewers agree that this should never be in Cartoon Network in the first place. Gumball is decent to a degree. So again, I gave CN a chance, and they ruined it once they brought the "new" Powerpuff girls in the mix, which was an instant train wreck of how CN used to be. Yeah, I let nostalgia blind me, but with good reason. Sad to say that they've lost their second chances, even without Stuart Snyder.

I've only seen about two and a half episodes and I find it sort of "meh" so far.  I'm sure it will get better as it goes on for a little bit and grows some.  It has a lot of room to build upon.  It certainly hasn't grabbed my attention as much as most of the other CN shows have.

I'll just see where it goes.

I do get a really "Slayers" vibe to this show though
