ManaMinori 4,149 October 13, 2016 Share October 13, 2016 (EqG included) I never liked the fact that real world things started to replace the escapism and fantasy that drew me into the show. Things like blatant mind control (by Twilight, Cadence, Starlight Glimmer), communism, demons (evil SciTwi, evil Shimmy, Tirek, and possibly Discord), government cover-ups (the mares of S.M.I.L.E), implied deity worship and Illuminati symbolism (Sunbutt....(and Sapphire Shores's costume)). Then there's EqG, which is a complete mess of plot holes and stupid stick moments (aside from Sunset Shimmer, which is the ONLY good thing about this poor little spin-off) that just pose more questions than there is time to answer them: Such as- if ponies are humans in the human world, then why are Diamond Dogs and Sirens humans also, while Spike is a dog? Sirens and Diamond dogs aren't equines in the pony world, so, like Spike shouldn't they have been some other species? 2: Twilight informed the girls that the Sirens came from Equestria. Shouldn't this detail have raised red flags with Sunset- a fellow Equestrian citizen- to investigate HOW they got in the human world, if they hadn't come over with Twilight? (The fact that Starswirl banished them must have been omitted by Twilight, because Sunny blames herself, in Friendship Games, for bringing magic to the human world, when in fact, it was originally Starswirl, when he chose to banish magical creatures there). Shouldn't it be Sunny's responsibility to take the Sirens back to their natural world?) 3: is Applejack just spiteful? (Or stupid?) After all that happened in the first act of Rainbow Rocks; Sunset informing the gang of her magical diary that could get a letter to Sunbutt and Twilight across dimensions; being the one who came up with a magical solution suggestion to defeat the Sirens, and advising it to Twilight...that one line AJ says IMMEDIATELY afterward, is that Twilight is the ONLY ONE with the magical know how to defeat the Sirens. Seriously?! I really can't help but think that she's just spiting Sunny, or just stupid and not listening. What things bother you about G4- FiM and EqG? Have these destroyed your favor toward the Main series or its human, Monster High knockoff series? 4 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
Discordian 6,021 October 13, 2016 Share October 13, 2016 Mostly I hate the fact that it draws attention of people who see subtext and agenda where there isn't any because it's a cartoon. There isn't that much thought put into it. Also they don't come out on DVD nearly fast enough. Season 5 just barely came out on DVD a month or two ago so I haven't had a chance to see it yet.

GrimGrimoire 4,973 October 13, 2016 Share October 13, 2016 The only thing right off that bugs me about the show at times is sort of the same... the real world stuff that invades it. I do GET why they do it, but seriously... television, motor vehicles, high rises and condominiums? And don't get me started on the names... "Manehatten", "Fillydelphia"? Like I said, on one hoof I get it... but on another... way to take what is a great opportunity at creating an authentic fantasy realm and making it into sort of a running gag in some places. i don't mind some of it since despite being a fantasy world, I am sure they have similar things to ours and are not complete stone age tech or the like, but I guess I just like to imagine it as more D&D fantasy world than Harry Potter or some such. 1 ~No profound statement needed~
cmarston1 5,964 October 14, 2016 Share October 14, 2016 That for a show with a magical fantasy world, we only get to see like the same 4 or 5 locations all the time, despite their being an actual map of Equestria that we have gotten a while back. Plus with the Cutie Map sending the mane 6 to solve friendship problems, and the whole Explore Equestria toyline, this season should have been the perfect opportunity for some more worldbuilding.

This too. I'm crazy into world building (I was on a site called Gaia Online some time back, and made world building and documentation of its fictional world nearly an obsession). So to see that going untapped in MLP really bugs 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub

Plus with the Cutie Map sending the mane 6 to solve friendship problems, and the whole Explore Equestria toyline, this season should have been the perfect opportunity for some more worldbuilding. We saw more than 4 or 5 locations this season. Lets count: Ponyville, Crystal Empire, Manehattan, Dragonlands, the probably fictional towns of Snowfall Frost and the town she originally grew up in, Wonderbolts Academy, Canterlot, the Daring Do temple location (was the name of the convention location ever named? We did not see outside), Changeling Hive, the jazz bar Discord took the guys and his fantasy card game realm, Cloudsdale, Braeburns town, Griffinstone in a flashback, Los Pegasus, seaside town, the town Starlight founded. That is all unless I forgot something. So Ponyville, Crystal Empire, Manehattan and Canterlot are usual locations which is 4. Wonderbolts Academy, Cloudsdale, Braeburn's town and Starlight's town are locations we see occasionally. Which is also 4. Dragonlands, Changeling Hive, Lost Pegasus and seaside town are new locations yet again 4. Griffinstone was only a flashback and Daring Do's temple was really similar to her other temples we have seen but that is 2 different locations anyway. Then some fantasy/fictional/indoor places totaling in 5 but lets ignore those. So 14 locations this season. Not too few imo. I guess people expected more with explore Equestria thing but that was just a commercial thing and I never even heard of it. It would be a lot of work to constantly make new locations for designers and we want to see some locations again anyway. It was more how there locations were used that was sometimes the issue (why did the temple need to look so similar to others? Why the seaside town was not named?). And we want to see some exciting named locations like Saddle Arabia. But I do not think quantity was the problem.
SunsetBaconDrive 169 October 14, 2016 Share October 14, 2016 The modern architecture and human concepts in Equestria never bothered me. I was always bummed the Celestia from the first pilot was depicted as this wise, powerful and yoda like mare.. And then she is reduced to nothing in finales. Not saying she should be perfect, but if you're a Celestia fan, I feel bad for you.

While I didn't mean it literally, but most of the time the show would rather take place in locations like Ponyville, Canterlot, Manehatten, and the Crystal Empire instead of actually expanding upon the large world that the people have created for FIM. It is especially annoying when instead of using the Cutie Map to take the characters to somewhere new, it instead gives us another slice of life episode in Manehatten or Canterlot for the 5 billionth time. I would like to see more of the show's lore expanded upon like we got with the Griffon's in season 4 (which is one of the reasons why I really enjoyed that episode and consider it the best map episode yet) and the dragons in Gauntlet of Fire. I see perfect opportunities for the writers to make the universe they created feel more alive and interesting, and I get disappointed when they don't take advantage of it. ManaMinori 4,149 October 26, 2016 Author Share October 26, 2016 Also, just the fact that unicorns are being groomed to be freakishly powerful (ripping time space open, controlling celestial bodies, stopping time, creating life from lifeless objects) is terrifying, because their actions go unchecked. Unlikeable Pony 2,700 October 27, 2016 Share October 27, 2016 Things that bother me?>Earth pony magic being so ill defined and non-existent; Its almost never shown in a quantifiable manner or used in the same manner that Pegasi or Unicorn abilities are. >The Two parters having kicked the others more and more to the curb to revolve around twilight for an hour; Additionally, power creep for twilight.>the removal of the EOH with only the table to replace them. I'm not against the EOH being removed with suitable replacements (I loved the Key/box arc for example), but the Map and map episodes are very poor so far in importance and how good they are, and there's also been a pretty massive drop in importance for the other 5 since the EOH dissapeared, even more than before. >the changelings all reforming. A few being reformed is fine, but Not ALL of them sans chrysalis >Starlight glimmer. Just don't like her after The cutie mark map. On that note, the fact that they went from starlight's True weapons being cunning and social manipulation combined with a SINGLE OP spell, with her being easily dealt with once that was circumvented to her being the Most powerful unicorn in existence rubs me massively the wrong way. Also, just the fact that unicorns are being groomed to be freakishly powerful (ripping time space open, controlling celestial bodies, stopping time, creating life from lifeless objects) is terrifying, because their actions go unchecked. Nothing like the limited magic of earlier gen ponies That's more of a power creep issue; In S1 Unicorns were much more nerfed, with TRIXIE Of all ponies being a pretty impressive Unicorn. Unfortunately, Unicorns have very few if any rules for the way their magic works, so it tends to increase over time due to being an easy "Out" for plot purposes, leading to them becoming more and more impressive.

Ganondorf8 11,730 October 27, 2016 Share October 27, 2016 Not really much annoys me regarding generation four, but if there was one little thing that bugged me, it would be the writers adding in a tad too many new characters and not relying on older, forgotten characters who need more character development.
SaburoDaimando 1,196 October 27, 2016 Share October 27, 2016 Not much, actually. Except we don't have as much of outside of the main countryside to look at(Besides Griffon Kingdom and the Dragon Lands). Maybe we'll see other species across Equestria. Maybe some Asian or Pacific Islander themes(Lio Lani for a Hawaiian-style archipelago?)
BlueBrony 388 October 27, 2016 Share October 27, 2016 One thing that I have felt at various times throughout the show is that things resolve WAY too quickly. I have a hard time buying into the whole "character sings a song and conflict resolves" or "defeated villain suddenly turns reformed" aspects. Then again, the character development displayed across multiple shows is what keeps bringing me back. Check out my youtube music channel My OC- Prof. Noble H. mlp2tf 6 October 27, 2016 Share October 27, 2016 I suppose there are things I'd want more if in gen 4: more diversity of characters in races/species that are non pony (a generous diamond dog, a lawful-neutral dragon etc...), more world building and lore, more conflict and arcing stories, stories with consequence and long lasting effects... But, then I think that there are very few episodes I don't still enjoy, and that I still look forward to new stories. I wonder if the things I crave... LOTR style epics and character rosters reminiscent of Game of thrones and so forth, perhaps these would more detract than add?
