Does it feel like the writers have favorites?

I feel like the writers have gotten their favorite characters they prefer to write on. I mean when I looked at the older seasons the shows seemed a lot more candid and there seemed to be less favoritism. But now I feel like the writers seem to have some kind of shine on certain characters and utilize each of them in a sort of copy and paste manner as well.

Well, Natasha wrote only one Pinkie/AJ episode, and three Fluttershy episodes! Ed Valentine wrote one Twilight/Discord episode and three CMC episodes! GM Berrow mentions that Pinkie is her favorite character, and her only episode so far is a Pinkie episode. So yeah, the writers have favorites!

Actually that would not surprise me. Everyone has favorite characters, even the writers, so I imagine if they were given free reign on who to use in different scenes, their favorites would get more time than the others even if they did not even consciously realize they were doing it. .

The writers always have favorites and there's really nothing wrong with that, just as long as they're fair and not let bias effect their writing. AKR's favorite has always been Pinkie but she was always careful enough to give all the other ponies their due.

I Do think this season suffered from some of the worst character bias since the first year of the comics though

That's not much of a surprise, and is only natural. If the writer's are doing their job and trying to write well, they would be spending quite a lot of time thinking about the characters and trying to understand them. Naturally enough, with all that time spent thinking about them and working on them, they'd end up with a favorite or a few.

It's understandable, the writer's are only human after all, and sometimes that favoritism can lead to good things. They might try extra hard to write their favorite character well, and give them the love they deserve. Though, of course it can also lead sometimes to certain characters maybe getting too much focus when they shouldn't.

If that is the case then we should let those writers write any character they can do best. Not every writer is perfect, even my beloved Amy wrote the Pinkie Pie catastrophe named Filli Vanilli and one of the worst mane 3 portrayal in Mmmmmmystery Express. I hope AJ will get more loves someday....

Sure! Just like we have our favorite ponies, the writers can have favorite characters to write for as well. That's why we have different levels of expectations when we go into an episode only knowing the writer. This goes for all other types of media as well.

If the writers can't spread out their love then I suppose Hasbro could always fire them and get writers that do care about the less loved ones.

They do and some of them admit it.

Like AKR for example is open that Pinkie was her favorite, Larson's favorite was Rarity, same for Haber. Laurens never named her FAVORITE but she said "Rarity was the one she was most proud of".

I believe Vogels favorite is Rainbow Dash but im not sure on that.

It good to have writers writing based on their favorites so  they can express the characters better.

With how much Rarity appeared this season, it is pretty clear that she is Habor's favorite.

He's admitted as such in interviews.

But really dude, Rarity didn't have a SINGLE real Solo episode (the closest was Saddle Row Review) and Dash got THREE AND three co-starings putting her not far behind Rarity and ahead in overall focus so you really can't go "THE WRITERS JUST FAVOR RARITY" Yes she's popular among the staff but  that hasn't gotten her overdone focus ever.

Rarity in general is possibly the most popular character among the writing staff, just deal with it. Characters of her archetype like her are really hard to come by and they are proud of working on a character like that, that's not a bad  thing.

Im gonna guess Ed Valentine favors the CMC since almost all of his episodes other than one are about them.

O and Jim Millers favorite is probably Applejack, I know this because I jokingly ended a question to him at a con once with "RARITY IS BEST PONY" and he responded "no your Wrong, Applejack is the best pony"

Give them time, give them time xD. I think they will get better next season :D By a way, i dont like Fox brothers this season, their Applejack Day Off is so terrible, Fire them! :D Ah dont forget Neal Duseau, Fire him too...

I wonder if the writers even give a DAMN about the Royal Family because of how they were treated in the Season 6 finale...

They just follow Megahn's footsteps lol :D. Gotta catch them all!

Im fine with the Fox Bros eps other than that one, I blame Duesdau mostly for AJs day off.

Like Gift of Maud Pie is great and PPOV was tons of fun till the last 3 minutes which were kind of weak. Just fire Neal. The Fox Bros can do average to above average without him.

Well, perhaps I am getting a little overworked because this season had a bunch of new writers on the team, but I still want them to give the Royal Family the love they deserve and not keep having them as being the ones having to be rescued in most season premieres/finales, especially after the Season 6 finale.

What are your thoughts now about this upon seeing the season 9 finale?

Each show is gonna have a staff that has their favorites, but it's usually best for them to hide it and keep it from affecting their work. I think this show really suffers from some bad character bias from S6 onward

The Royal Family may have not gotten the love I was looking for, but at least Celestia and Luna proved that, even without their Unicorn magic, they actually could still fight using their Earth Pony strength and Pegasus flight, despite being outgunned by the villains.

Sadly even that sort of got overshadowed by Starlight's rescue attempt and such..

Really, the Royal Sisters deserved better than that. It just felt like they didn't get a good enough sendoff there.

I feel especially for Luna's case since how she started the show off with her story and being the first antagonist.
I felt like she could have gotten something here to make things come full circle.
Like starting the show off as a antagonist but ending the show with a big hero moment(no, distracting the trio doesn't freaking count for that. Meant like a huge unique hero moment or something)

Again, I agree with that thought regarding Luna after her introduction as Nightmare Moon.
