Does the s6 finale bother anyone?

First off, Cadence brought her newborn to throw down inside a changeling lair- why?

And Flurry looked... determined...ready to throw down, with her horn lit up....ummm...Ok? does an infant goal even grasp the magnitude of such a situation, and be raring to go for it?

Also, did the fact that secondaries saved the day, rather than remane5 getting their time out from under Twilight, or Spike, or the CMC getting a shot to save the world when chips are down bother anyone?

Cadance didn't bring her newborn to the hive on purpose, they both got ponynapped. Neither Cadance or Flurry had a choice. As for Flurry being ready to throwdown...Pony babies seem a bit smarter than human babies honestly, so while she probably doesn't fully grasp the situation, she might understand that her and her family are in danger.

The fact that secondaries saved the day seems to bother some people, but I don't see a problem with it. It's actually really interesting, most of the team is reformed villains, and it sort of shows the benefits of ponies being willing to befriend them despite what they've done in their pasts. Spike already sort of got his day back in the season 3 premiere, as for the Mane 5 without Twilight, or the CMC getting to save the day...Could always happen in the future, and I wouldn't mind.

Spike didn't have his dain a premir or finale. Ever. Twilight was tasked to find the heart, Twilight was the one who found the heart, Twilight told Spike to deliver the heart, Cadence put grabbed the heart before it reached Sombra, and Cadence was the one who put the heart on the dias. All Spike did was jump out a window and get it to Cadence. Not really a full victory where he alone Save's the day

He got a statue of his own and the Crystal Ponies pretty much worship him for it. He carried the heart down to Cadance, despite all the giant dark crystals stabbing through the floor, that's a big deal and pretty brave of him to jump down and try to bring it to Cadance.

Sure, it's not Spike doing all the work, but he was still a pretty big part of getting that heart to safety and stopping Sombra. There's also him saving the day in Equestria Games, though that's not a two-parter.

ME. IT BOTHERS ME.

I'm not mad because minor characters got the spotlight, that's stupid. I'm mad because A CHEAP AND LAZY METHOD WAS USED TO WORF EVERYONE BUT THESE CHARACTERS OVERNIGHT OFFSCREEN. And the episode was only resolved by Deus Ex Machina. And the idiots climbed the mountain with NO WAY of destroying the throne and beating Chrysalis that they knew of. Would it have killed them to pick up some warhammers and C4/magical "Boom shrooms" first?

That's my main question about the finale, which I thought was otherwise splendid. At the very least, having an earth pony or two would have been a good idea (assuming their super strength isn't magical, that is), just in case. Maybe a small dragon or griffon too (same thing about the magic, though).

But wouldn't the magic giving them this superior strength be nulled as well?

Wait, it didn't bother you that the mane six, celestia and luna, princess pink and her family, and everypony else worth anything was worfed so these particular characters would be the only ones left for the spotlight?

Also why didn't Celestia get antimagic thrones and bury Discord 500 feet underground with 40 thrones?

For the same reason she didn't get a Crystal Heart to do the very same thing.

As for the "take a piece of the throne and invade" I've sometimes read, try doing the same thing with a piece of your computer. You'll find out it doesn't work quite well. :smug:

Assuming earth pony strength is magic-based, yes. I'm just not certain it is.

Not much. I like the side characters they chose.

My headcanon says they made weapons with the same powers the throne had, and that they just recently built the weapons, explaining why they didn't use them before.

There were several aspects of the S6 finale that annoyed me.

1) Chrysalis having an easy time offscreen capturing the main 6, and all the alicorns.  Pinkie is the one I was most surprised at.

2) The ease with which the changelings became changedlings.  Thorax maybe, he had a lot of time with the ponies, and was charged up.  The other lings?

3) The creepy Chrysalis thing.  The whole owl-neck thing was unnecessary.

4) The whole design of the changedlings.  I know if I were a changeling, I wouldn't want to see the 1970s deer beetle reflecting in my mirror.

---

Flurry Heart fighting at the end didn't even blip my radar.  I think if something attacked the cakes, Pound and Pumpkin wouldn't just sit there either.

I too would have liked to found out more about how the main characters were captured...  but i accept time was the factor there. Otherwise, no, it did not particularly bother me. I could spend all my time nit picking little things, or just enjoy it for what it was. I chose the latter.

The only thing that bothered me was the fact that we never saw how the Changelings were able to capture everyone. There wasn't even an explanation as to how they pulled it off. I've been saying for a while now that the writers really ought to consider having a three part adventure. Two parts are fine but the time constraint means cutting back on certain things.

Honestly, the changelings capturing everyone really DEMANDS an expanded story Side comic and probably some magical macguffins to give the changelings an edge of some kind.

As an example, I thought the Season 3 Premier was one of the absolute WORST one's ever with sombra as a shit villain with no plan, plot or story behind him, but the IDW comics managed to make him and his control of the empire make more sense. (Him not being a unicorn, his threat not being HIM personally and the heart not being useful to him except as a threat, and his motivation being cleared up).

I'm sure a similar comic detailing how chrysalis was able to get the others captured and a backstory for the Throne of Deus ex machina plot Needs would work wonders.

Thank goodness someone decided to start this topic so people could voice their disappointment in the Season 6 finale. I'm one of the few Bronies who was disappointed in the finale for several reasons:

  • No explanation is given to how Chrysalis was able to kidnap the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony, take them to her hive, and cocoon them without raising any alarms among the Royal Guards or Ponyville, only with Sunburst, Thorax, and Starlight via Luna.
  • When Chrysalis' throne explodes, we don't see how the cocoons were freed from their ceiling anchors, fell, and burst open, freeing everyone as it all happened off-screen in the few seconds we see the Changeling Hive's spire get blown off. It would have been worth it to at least squeeze in showing the Royal Family and Mane Six being freed instead of just showing the aftermath with several of them still covered in leftover slime from their cocoons when they ruptured and they were revived from whatever coma or whatnot the cocoons were keeping them in.
  • The ending was rushed with how quickly the Changelings decided to defect and take Thorax's side, destroy Chrysalis' throne, and atone for kidnapping the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony earlier with freeing them from their cocoon imprisonments in the process.
  • I normally accept any premiere or finale that either has the Royal Sisters in a major speaking role through both parts with plenty of screen time, such as in Twilight's Kingdom, or a minor non-speaking role in both parts with little screen time, such as in The Cutie Re-mark. This finale basically put the worst of those two options together with Luna only appearing physically in Part One to help out Starlight and warn her of the return of Chrysalis and her Swarm, then putting her, Celestia, Cadance, Shining Armor, and Flurry Heart on the sidelines until the end of the second act in Part Two, when we see them stuck in the cocoons, and even after they are freed, Luna and Celestia barely have any dialogue anyway, with Luna commending Starlight for her actions, and Celestia being all diplomatic with Thorax before suggesting they head home for some well-deserved rest & relaxation.

All together, that was total disrespect in my eyes for the Royal Family. They and the Mane Six are all ready to give Chrysalis what she deserves for all the turmoil and grief she's put them through both here and back at the Royal Wedding, along with protecting her reformed swarm and Starlight from her wrath, and she manages to escape their wrath to return later, vowing revenge on Starlight for taking everything away from her. Worse, instead of taking her out while they had the chance, they simply let her go while they head back to Starlight's old village to unwind and relax from their little traumatic experience, probably knowing that there might still be hope for Chrysalis to repent and reform, and if not, Celestia and Luna bear the burden of condemning Chrysalis to Tartarus for eternity to protect Equestria from further harm from the former Changeling Queen.

I really hope that the Season 7 premiere answers all the plot holes and questions that To Where and Back Again left behind, or there are going to be a lot of fans who are going to be upset at not getting the answers they want to see out of the Season 7 premiere to bring closure to To Where and Back Again. However, judging from how each previous season premiere tied into the finale of the season before it, we should get the answers we want when Season 7 starts and give the Royal Family and Elements of Harmony the screen time and dialogue they deserve like back in The Crystalling. Seeing the Royal Family as the heroes again like back then will easily make up for them getting screwed over again like so many times before with this finale being the latest of them.

One thing for sure that bother me during the finale was in fact that there were no feature songs. I mean imagine how great if Chrysalis and Starlight were to sing an epic duet together emphasizing their conflicts during the climax of the finale.
