Question about Buildings at Sweet Apple Acres

I'm trying to put together a show-accurate layout for Sweet Apple Acres.  I see a few things that are pretty consistent, like how that carrot/barrel-themed storage building is to the left of the main farmhouse (which looks like a barn, but is really where AJ and family live), how there are white fences around the orchards and around the farm itself, and how there are these little red shack-like buildings to the right of the farmhouse.

 

...But I can't, for the life of me, guess at the function of those little red shack-like buildings.  Each one has a tiny chimney coming out of it, but who would be burning what inside them and for what purpose, I can't guess.

 

Can anyone help me out as to what the function of those buildings could possibly be?  Or did the artists who put SAA together just make something up as visual filler?

I'm not sure we've ever seen in those, but a few guesses of mine could be that they're either: A. Homes for some of the animals. They have more intelligence in Equestria, though not as much as the ponies, so maybe they get more comfy homes?

 

 Or B. They're little guest houses. The Apple family is big, if a bunch of ponies come to stay the night, they might run out of room in the main home, so they have those little things for extra's to stay in.

Well, there's all sorts of things they *could* be. Smokehouses was something I thought of immediately, as we used to have some on the farm I lived on as a kid. (Not meat smoking, but for making maple syrup.) It's not the way cider is made, but I could see a fantasy version trying to make something from the sap of apple trees.

 

Then I remembered you could see some buildings in the background of the episode where Twilight tried to do Applejack's chores 'by the book'.

 

 

But those aren't the same buildings. Those are more of the chicken coops that you can see one of in the foreground of the picture you posted. which prompted a thought: rotate around the coops in that mastershot picture so that the coops are in the background just like in the pigsty picture. Which would put you basically where those unknown buildings are. The best pic of which I could find online of the pig building was this:

 

 

That's got the right colors anyway, though the gingerbread trim seems a bit off. If those unknown buildings aren't the pigsty building, then the pigsty must be further to the 'right', just outside of the mastershot.

 

So the only thing I've got left is that I know Sweet Apple Acres also has sheep and cows. It's possible those are the sheep houses?

I'm sure the main barn is where the family sleeps and lives. That carrot building is something else. Those other buildings are probably guest houses for some of the ponies who actually lives there on a rotational basis depending on the season such as Apple Fritter.

Since the carrot-building had a barrel theme to it, I figured it was either Carrot Top's house or a storage building for carrots that are grown on Sweet Apple Acres---since AJ uses that building herself freely in the Apple Family Reunion episode, I'm guessing it's the latter.her

 

Thanks for the feedback on what those shacks could be; one of the guesses I had was that it's where some cows or other talking animals live, too.

Best guess is either chicken coops or pig houses & the chimneys are decorative.  It is clear that they let Rarity design them.
