ManaMinori 4,149 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 I see "that isn't canon" thrown around a lot, whether its referring to Equestria Girls, the chapter books, or the comics. But the staff themselves have said that everything is "tiered canon", meaning that there's an "A" canon, "B" canon, etc, For many, the Friendship is Magic tv series would be "A" canon. But in my opinion, the series wouldn't exist without the creation of the toyline, which, as can be confirmed by the franchise's creator, Bonnie Zacherle, did indeed come first, in the form of her "my pretty pony" brushable. And the reason why I personally feel so strongly about toyline/ "A canon" exclusive ponies (coughStarDreamscough) But what do you guys feel is A canon, B canon, C canon, etc? trademark2 485 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 I think the show is more cannon than the toys, because its more popular, and a lot of bronies don't get toys because they are such poor quality much of the time 1 Feel free to message or add me everypony! Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,205 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 Not entirely sure about the comics and books, but I definitely do not consider EqG to be canon whatsoever. None of it is properly connected to FiM oFfash doesn't really count) and having any kind of human stuff involved with FiM is simply annoying. It has far too many problems and isn't up to the quality of of FiM proper. Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell.
Miss 6,239 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 I would say the TV shows conquers all. If the TV show contradicts something the comics, books, etc. said then oh well TV show is lord. Second would be Equestria Girls. 3rd It's probably between comics and books here. 4th everything else. I take everything as canon if it came from official source. KatonRyu 1,036 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 I don't know about the fandom as a whole, but I consider the show and EQG to be canon, and also the parts of the comics I personally like, but not the bits I don't like. For instance, I consider Reflections to be canon but not the Nightmare Forces.
GrimGrimoire 4,973 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 The cartoon is canon to me, with the comics being canon unless they contradict what the show says, in which case the show takes precedence. Since they don't interact with each other it is pretty simple to call it canon since neither effects the other. If anything the upcoming story arc is supposed to link the comic and cartoon if I understand correctly, which would indeed make them canon to the show. EQG is canon to itself certainly... I don't really watch any of it, and it does not again seem to interact with FiM, thus anyone can call it whatever they like and it won't effect anything. Even some fanfiction could actually be looked at the same way, since if it does not contradict anything in the cartoon or show, who is to say how canon it is? I don't see how the toys can be canon to anything to be honest, since they are toys. The only stories around them are those either found on the packaging or those you invent while you play with them. Everything else is just headcanon or whatever you personally like or dislike. ~No profound statement needed~
TBD 17,276 February 10, 2017 Share February 10, 2017 Equestria Girl is a canon to MLP fim. whether like it or not. Because in 1st EqG there a Flash pony who twilight have her eyes on. Then when Flash reappear again in a episode. But..the 3rd is kinda has it own. In short, any animation of mlp is consider to be a canon in its own tv universe. While in the comic is a canon to it's own universe. Having 3-4 canon is a headache to keep track. ♪ "I practice every day to find some clever lines to say, to make the meaning come through"♪

GrimGrimoire 4,973 February 13, 2017 Share February 13, 2017 the toys are canon, because they're official, just like the show, the comics, the books... Plus, they came first Canon to what though? There is no fiction around them save what you make yourself. They can make dozens of toys that have no appearance anywhere else save as a toy.... and although they most certainly exist, again, they are not canon to anything unless you want them to be. An example being Princess Skylar... she is most certainly a toy/doll... but she exists no where else... so what is she canon to? She can be anything you want her to be... and as such it is up to the individual with said toy or doll where they fit in the actual canon if anyplace at all. 1 ~No profound statement needed~
----- 477 February 14, 2017 Share February 14, 2017 (edited) Every offical animation is canon (show, movies & shorts). Comics and books are secondary canon and can get denied by the animations. Lastly come the toys. They can get denied by the animations, comics and books. Edited February 14, 2017 by Aya. K.

Duality 10,740 February 18, 2017 Share February 18, 2017 The show is always 'A' canon, no matter who you're talking to. 'B' canon would be Equestria Girls, despite the fact that a lot of bronies detest its very baseline concept. 'C' canon is comics, as they explicitly contradict themselves and the show in various portions. I'm not sure what people are going to make of the movie, but unless it directly contradicts the show or fails abjectly and ends up hated as much as EqG, it'll probably be 'A' canon (albeit tiered slightly below the show). I've never heard of toylines being considered canon, though, as there's not much one can glean from such a static medium.
