Are Ponies Really Free?

I was just wondering if ponies are truly free? It seems as if a pony strives to earn a cutiemark and once earned, that one cutiemark dictates the rest of their life like how Pinkie's cutiemark has to do with parties and so on.And what would happen if a pony got the wrong cutiemark or never got a cutiemark? Would they still be accepted into pony society and would they still have a future?

When Applebloom got the cutiepox she couldn't control herself and her talents went over board, when Starlight equalised the ponies they all lost their special talents and started acting the same.On a similar note, are the mane 6 forced to be the elements of harmony and was Twilight forced to become an alicorn and fulfill her destiny because l don't remember them having a say in the matter and its always these six bearing this burden no matter which universe/world their in.

Well, no, given they're an intellectual property from hasbro.

My perception is that cutie marks represent self-realization.

my perception is that cutie marks equal control and imprisonment, at their core.

There is a fanfic that really made me see cm's in a new light. In short, ponies trading their freedom for "harmony", or rather, what the TOH perceives as harmony.

So in my opinion, in answer to the op: so long as a pony has a cutie mark, thy are NOT free

I made a HUGE topic about this very thing Years ago, as have others since then. Some of the ideas presented in there are outdated and doesn't reflect my current position but I digress

So, does that mean that berry punch will forever be an alcoholic and she is not able to overcome it?

Well with the nature of cutie marks that was kinda brought up in MMC, and than the Tree of Harmony,

people have kinda been speculating these kinds of existential questions regarding the show for a while now.

I remember someone once said of Astrology "The stars impel, they do not compel".  IMO, Cutie Marks are the same.  Think about it

Pinkie has balloons, she is a baker

Rarity has diamonds, she should be a jeweler or a gem miner

Twilight has a Magic Cutie Mark & became a librarian.

Fluttershy has butterflies, she should be a lepidopterist, not running an animal shelter.

Derpy has 7 bubbles.  What does that have to do with delivering the mail?

No, IMO you have the right Cutie Mark it helps you get a job, (Think about it would you want a doctor whose Cutie Mark was floral arrangement?) but it by no means rules your  life.
