That'd make sense. Probably this. I think season 7 (especially its finale) will offer hooks and hints to the movie. I mean they foreshadowed Starlight Glimmer's return throughout season 6, so I don't doubt that they'll give us a few nods as to what's going to happen later in the movie. Also, you can see briefly see part of Starlight on the side of the screen during the trailer, when Trixie is shown. Do you want to see more of Twilight and her friends after Season 9? Exactly, one of the main arguments of scrapping the previously alicorn focused plot of the movie, is that it will turn-off new audience, specially with 7 seasons to catch up by the time it releases .
