Three part season finale.

Maybe, season one and three didn't have two part season finales. And the showstaff has done something differnt with both the season six finale and the season seven preimiere. Possibly if this finale involves Chrysalis. But I have a feeling it will be more slice of life.

I just can't see the show having a 3-parter. Sure, Season 7 did break the tradition of always having a 2-part premiere. But a 3-parter, which would be about 66 minutes long, is comparable in length to an Equestria Girls movie. I'm just not sure they would have the guts to put out essentially a movie-length season finale not long after the actual movie.

Highly, HIGHLY unlikely. Like 1/1000000 level unlikely.

A three parter would indicate a much larger type event than we've ever had occur in the show yet, and in such a case I would expect a healthy lead up to it in a meta-plot of sorts, like how S4 had the key build up.
This season has had zero meta-plot build up, so I seriously doubt they're about to pull out a super giant end finale on us, especially with the movie right around the corner freezing canon in place.

most probably either a SOL plot, or chrysalis returns plot (that could even be a ONE parter, ala how mirror magic was 22 minutes long).

If it happened I would fall in love with mlp all over again.

All things that interact with the world exert a force. All things that exert a force have an opposite and equal force. Ergo, nothing immaterial exists [because where would the opposite force be without material as a medium?]. Ergo god doesn't exist immaterially. Also if the universe were infinite itd take infinite time for a god to make it. If it were finite it'd be subject to entropy. Which means an eternal god can't exist.

I'll be honest, I would LOVE if this were the case. But I'm not gonna hold my breath. I just doesn't seem very likely, all things considered.

However, I'm not going to completely rule it out. Considering the fact that we have approximately ZERO information about the last 3 episodes, and let's not forget the recent comic arc meant to tie into S7.

It would be cool, but I really want a second Spike episode this season and episode 24 is the only slot available for that.

nooooo sacrifice the spike episode for the three parter.

A three parter would be the equivalent of another movie over 60 minutes long!

How about both? :D 3-parter Spike finale!

I think it's about time that the writers considered a three part story. In the past, the previous two part premieres and finales were good at what they set out to accomplish, yet they were flawed because of time constraints forcing certain things to not get explained, touched upon briefly, and certain facets remaining unresolved just to name a few examples. A three part story would allow them to add in those extra details and explanations while still giving the audience an experience they will want to watch again and again.

I find it odd how so many people are expecting the finale to be SOL just because the premiere was, I mean, according to Jim they made the decision in large part because they were still working hard on finishing 6 when they started 7 and didn't want to stretch themselves too thin, which is an odd reason because they always start new seasons when one is in development, but I don't see the s7 premiere being indicative of the finale. Especially considering the mlp #50-53 comic arc (which is supposed to tie into the show) left on a huge cliffhanger of who this "great darkness" would be.

I don't think it'll be slice of life, but I expect it'll be far from an "epic adventure" type scenario.
I'm more expecting something akin to the S6 premiere where its much more low key in feel despite having a real threat encroaching. Or akin to the (rather poor) EQG mirror magic "adventure" where its not really much of an epic situation despite there being a villain and threat.

Either of those would be...disappointing, I didn't hate the season 6 premiere, but it was really lacking...lackluster start to a lackluster season I suppose.

Mirror Magic was fun, but I would be upset if something like that was the finale

I am hoping for that guy from the comics to be the villain and we finally get another epic evil dude two parter...which we haven't had since season 4

There might be a 2-parter, but it isn't likely to be a 3-parter.  I just can't see them doing that right before a movie.  If it was next year, then maybe.

As for the 'great darkness' that you mentioned, I'd be more likely to put money on that being featured in the movie, rather than in the season finale.  Bear in mind that they said parts of the comics are supposed to tie into the show, but the movie is also supposed to tie into the show.  So having the comics tie into either would be in line with what they said.

I can pretty much confirm that the great darkness has nothing to do with the movie, the movie is supposed to be a compliment to the show, but it is meant to be nothing outside viewers couldn't pick up, also, the guy we see in the comic that references the great darkness doesn't appear in the trailer and would pretty much mean everything we have been told about the movie by the press releases and staff were misleading us.

But you are right, likely not a 3 parter, by likely, most probably not, but I can see another epic two parter coming our way... Don't forget, the current show runners are Johanna Lewis and Kristen Songco, they could probably right one of the best two parters of all time. (Gauntlet of Fire, Top Bolt, Celestia Advice, All Bottled up, A Royal Problem, The Perfect Pear)

I expect it to be a three parter, since the last three episodes haven't be revealed yet and the première was different too. Grogar, my hopes are on you! :twi:
