I'm fully aware of the rabid side of the Brony community. As I continuously have to point out, I just simply didn't enjoy the episode. It felt like the MLP equivalent of Squidward Torture Porn.

Well, the writers are always in a Squidward Torture Porn, that's the point :dash:

You don't need to repeat the inner commentary in the episode, I get it. Writers do have to deal with angry bronies nitpicking, and expressing this into an episode is fine. The problem, as I have mentioned dozens of times earlier, is that I simply felt it to be a harsh episode. Some people have pointed fingers at me saying "you hating the episode is exactly what the moral was about, that means your a hypocrite". No, me not liking an episode doesn't make me a nasty brony that only watches the show to complain about it. In my original post on this thread I actually pointed out some good things in the episode, but me stating the things I didn't enjoy in the episode doesn't mean the writers hate me.

I liked the episode, but it did seem bitter and kind of mean-spirited. Why would ponies stop buying Rarity's products just because they didn't like her in the book? Especially if they'd been her clients for years? What did she even do in the book that made her terrible enough to abandon? And what did any of it have to do with her boutique? And yes, totally agree that the Mane 6 should be celebrities already.

*ahem* *Looks through EQD and the forums and every other brony site*

These statistics show that at least 3/4 of the fandom are picky and abusive towarss the creators...of course this 3/4 only beats the half by 2 or 3 people but still there are more negatives than positives towards the creators. The only reason the creators keep going with the show is because of the positive feedback they get, I believe that most of the writers that had quit and new writers were hired because some of the old writers couldn't take any more negative feedback...if the negatives start to over power the positives we may never see celebrity appearances again and we may lose John De Lancie (stretching it) at some point. You are one of those negative and abusive ponies sir...to a point

Evidence:

Hated episode because it represented the negatives of the fandom and probably yourself.

Tries to blame Larson (one of the original writers) for an episode he didn't write.

I have made my point I refuse to argue so keep on ranting.

First off, I didn't pin any blame on Larson. Some people on this thread did, but I made no comment on it.

Second, please do not label me as a negative and abusive fan of the show. This is the only episode I've been fully negative towards, most other episodes I have loved. I am not "abusive towards the writers" for disliking one episode.

I will come back to this thread every single time. Every user on this forum can come and try to debunk my opinion as "ironic and sensitive" but I will reply to every single one of those people just to make my opinion clear.

So, it's not the fact that the episode was a backlash at the "real fans" that upset you, but it is exclusively because they've made virtually everypony in-show a bunch of douches for it:huh: ?

Exactly. I didn't enjoy the episode because I thought it was mean-spirited and hard to watch. That's what I'm trying to say in the simplest of terms.

The reason the episode was enjoyable was because of the meta commentary, I don't see it as "mean spirited" I see it as a funny episode of a cartoon, the townsfolk are assholes, yes. But they are not ALL awful, as we saw some of the ponies do have fans, and it makes sense that everything wasn't fixed, the lesson was partly that you can't change how ponies feel about you. The argument likely blew over a few hours later and most of them returned to where they came from.

I guess the exception would be Josh Haber. He became the most polarizing story editor for Season 6 yet he's come back (to even more negative feedback as well) for the Season 7 finale and possibly Season 8. I guess some people handle criticism and feedback differently. He's definitely taken this episode's lesson to heart when it comes to putting himself out there.

Honestly, I just found the episode boring myself. I Do think its a bit meanspirited, but that's not really the big issue for me, as I can laugh at alot of the jokes in it like "Fluttershy learns the same lesson everytime!". Its more that I just found it to drag on without a whole lot to reccomend it except "INSIDE JOKE, INSIDE JOKE, INSIDE JOKE", and not even really good inside jokes (like in stranger than fan fiction). It just felt like a less inspired version of Slice of life.
the only part I really found kind of bad was that the end didn't really seem to have much of a moral besides "forget the adult fans, its the little girl fans who get things", which I think is a major cop out, and sends the message of "REAL FANS DON'T COMPLAIN!" which is a S****Y argument that I've never agreed with.

Its about a 6/10 for me, the only thing I truly loved in it was Rarity. Good LORD rarity was great in this episode; every single scene with her was perfect, and this episode just makes me want to see more of her-- her trying to measure Fluttershy and fluttershy's angry response was by far the best part of the episode.

I agree with you on a very weakly contributed moral. Here's how personally I think the episode should have went:

Twilight and her friends decide to publish their Friendship Journal. However after publishing the book, each member of the Mane 6 is confronted with a specific pony criticizing and being picky towards them, and each of them try to deal with these ponies, leading to some comedic scenes. Soon, all 6 of these rabid ponies protest outside Twilight's Castle, and the Mane 6 sing their song. However the ponies keep protesting. Twilight and her friends give up on trying to change their mind, but they go into central Ponyville where they find the rest of the town thanking them for the lessons in the book. The Mane 6 then realise that they don't need to pay attention to those 6 other ponies, because they should focus on those who do appreciate them.

I know the moral came out very similarly in my version, but personally this would have gone down better and ended on a more positive note.

I think you are taking this way too seriously, man. The fandom is full of entitled prats, and imo, this episode was justfiably directed towards those fans.

Maybe they could even just overhear people chatting positively about the book rather than be outright praised/thanked for it. That seems somewhat more realistic for a depiction of online fandom.

That's actually an even better idea! I was thinking about that possibility.

I paid a lot of attention to the pros and cons:

I feel like this was kind of directed at fans as well, because that older female pony said "I think that Twilight was better without wings!" and the Fluttershy hater saying "It's hard to relate to her." those are two things many fans talk about and argue about. It's gotten worse as the show's carried on and the producers have decided to try and address it through something we can all see.

It isn't a perfect episode either.. I mean they made the CMC think of making a cutie mark camp, I feel like they will make an episode about that. Also, a lot of the ponies who were arguing weren't even in character. Some of them are kind and everything, they expect us to believe that they started this!

Conclusion: The motto they're trying to show is great and how they're dealing with the haters are aswell... It's one of the worst episodes I've saw though, the way that was sorted could've been better and it's just... bad.

(I also don't like it cause I can't find Derpy)

You mean that the mane 6 had to be like spies to hear what people said? :orly:

They already do that in the episode we got, but I don't think that would be necessary.

How are they gonna hear from it properly then?  I like the idea of getting rid of the angry mob, but otherwise it wouldn't make so much impact.

I dunno, they just happen to wander within earshot when escaping the mob.

I loved fame and misfortune. While everyone's complaining about the massive assholish attitude of other ponies, I can see it as Hasbro saying "We've heard about that,  and we see the arguments. Were going to take them,  flip on their head, and serve it back to you into you face with a 42 ounce soda."

Basically, Hasbro pretty much had enough of the hostile BS "discussion" of various episodes and characters, and decided they would take a frontal stance against that. Did it make it worse? Most probably, but we aren't going to get anywhere with Hasbro if we act like children. Granted, while some younger viewers do watch the show, it really goes to show that the verbal beatdowns of people over episodes and characters has gotten to the point where it is today.

Maybe fame and misfortune wasn't supposed to serve as a jab, maybe it was more of a wake up call.

That's exactly why I really liked this episode.

I appreciate how the show staff didn't hold their punches, because the message wouldn't have nearly been as effective if they were afraid of upsetting people and held back.

There's a difference between "hey, I don't like this character, but if you want to make it better, here's what you need to do" and "WAAAA I DONT LIKE THIS CHARACTER REMOVE IT NOOOOOOOWWWW" I can understand if one has criticism, as long as its constructive and its not being a whiny brat who complains for the sake of complaining.

I ignore the whole fandom meaning, it simply comes off as the Mane 6 live in a bubble or their own world to me.
