yes i am. i love Doom beyond its worth. i love the game and all of the mods and maps that still to this day is being made for it. best FPS ever imo. i mean hell, without it setting the standards that other developers and games would base on, there would most possibly be none of your Halos, Call of Dutys, and Battlefields that oh so many people play nowadays.

Oh man the memories from this game that I have as a younggun. And I'm only 18.

I had a trilogy pack I think of Ultimate doom, Doom 2, and Final doom. Best computer game ever created. I really wish I never lost that disc. I used to play that for hours on end just redoing the hard and secret levels. I even bought doom 1 on xbox and plan on getting doom 2 soon <3

have you ever played any of the vast amount of Doom mods when you had the game? it literally makes the game immortal because new mods and maps for it come out still to this day, 19 years after the game was first released! that's a huge accomplishment for a game so old, i think.

I actually never got to since I lost the only cd I had. I'll have to rebuy a copy someday and learn how to load mods into it. I honestly didn't think people modded it as much as you say.

it was made in the Doom engine, back in 1998. they hacked, coded, designed, utterly transformed Doom into this. back then, Doom didn't have a extensive coding language like some source ports of it has now, so that they were able to do that with the game is just simply amazing.

this is a weapons mod made this year, using a much more extensive coding language for the game. the levelset that it is used to play on is also one of the best levelsets ever made, imo.

 

this is just a few samples on how mods and maps for Doom has kept it alive under all these years. loading mods into the game is quite easy, actually. if you want to buy the game sometime you can get it for about 10 bucks on Steam, though i dunno if this includes the whole classic doom series or if it's just one game of it. either way you should try and get your hands on it if you loved Doom so much back then.

Hey Viscra!

 

It's me! after debating on making an account here after you linked me from the zdoom forums I had an internal debate whether I should make an account here or not. guess what won?

 

I like doom not only for the original game, but for the MANY MANY mods it has. TUTNT, STRONGHOLD, NAZIS, Zdoom random mappack and the many weapon and map packs I can list on and on.(I have 9 GB worth of Doom wads)

 

I actually wanted to make a wad based of MLP but 3 problems:

1.No artist for the sprites

2.ACS (map event's like: an airstrike or drop in enemies) is a PAIN to write

3.I'm lazy

 

I'm currently replaying RSL's "polaris" wad with winter's fury in an air-coned room (winter is coming!)

 

P.S.Yo Viscra! remember that debate about your gender in the zdoom forums? your friend revealed your gender on her devianart. see ya! "doomhuntress" (what happened to that name anyway?)

I hear a tone of doubt in your voice, I was actually looking for the trilogy on ebay some time ago, but not having a job or money prevented me from obtaining it. I'll probably just get it on steam once I get my computer back.

 

Ps now I wanna learn how to code and program even more than I did before thanks to your vast knowledge.

DooM does indeed kick flank. I played bits of DooM 1 and 2 somewhere (can't remember) when I was younger, but didn't get to play it much because my mom thought it'd make me kill people or something. I eventually bought the DooM pack on Steam when it was on sale a long time ago.

 

Surprised nopony mentioned the series' badass soundtrack yet. Soundtrack with classic VGM awesomeness, and inspired by classic metal? Hay yeah.

 

Thread reminds me, I started to play Heretic and never finished it. I probably should.

Fuzz yeah. Doom 1, 2 TNT, Plutonia, 3 and Resurrection of Evil. Can't wait for Doom 4.

 

Edit: The one thing I didn't like about Doom 3 is that you have to beat the game to play in nightmare mode.

Oh yeah, used to play the first Doom on the SNES a lot and my old Pentium 4 way back. Nowadays i have Zdaemon installed and play some DM/Coop here and there, got the wad files from steam.

 

I remember the Pinky demon always used to freak me out for some reason, hearing that grunt coming from a dark room.
