spoiler Does the season 7 finale put holes in the story for the movie?

I wanted to mention this is my review for the Episode but I think it would be better fit for discussion.

Now that the season 7 finale is out I have a question that is on my mind. It was confirmed by one of the writers of the movie that it takes place between seasons 7 and 8 but that makes me question some things. 

In the Season 7 finale Twilight and he friends got the Elements of Harmony back and Starswirl and the pillars returned to and are now staying in Equestria so that makes we wonder.

If Twilight and her friends had access to the Elements of Harmony in the movie then why didn't they try and to get them when Tempest attacked. Celestia suggesting they go to the Hippogriff kingdom made since when the movie came out cause we all thought the elements were still in the Tree of Harmony but now since they have access to them again wouldn't it have made more since to try and use them? 

I also think such a large attack would get Starswirl's attention and he would try to formulate a plan to try and stop The Storm King but this is more of a minor nitpick. You could also ask what Starlight and or Discord tried to do in the wake of this attack but we see nothing so I am willing to let that slide. I'am genuinely curious as to why they didn't try the Elements. I get because story or whatever but I think you should exhaust all your options before traveling to a place you have never been to before. 

I would like to hear what you guys think of this. I think it would be way better and more fitting to have the Movie take place between seasons 6 and 7 rather than seasons 7 and 8.

The problem with the movie is that it is created after season 4. I like to believe it is between season 6 and season 7, since that makes most sense.

That writer that confirmed it didn't seem all that sure of it himself. I didn't take it as a confirmation really. Also the biggest issue I see in the finale is how Twilight says something about the seaponies, but is surprised at their existence in the movie. That would be a contradiction to the movie being after the finale. But there are bound to be little timeline issues when you have a collaboration independent writers I suppose. That statement may have been to help sell the movie or toys or something too.

One can't be too picky regarding of these plotholes because the movie writers couldn't afford to adapt the script for every change in the show when it started development back in S4
