Monsters you'd like to see in the show

So far we've seen My Little Pony portray the show's interpretation of a variety of mythical beasts: from manticores to chimeras to bunyips and, of course, dragons.

That being said, what monsters from real world mythology or fictional universes(such as D&D and LoTR) would you like to see in future episodes of MLP?

Personally, i'd like to see the show's interpretation of a beholder, from Dungeons & Dragons. The notion that one's thoughts and feelings have magical effects on the world around them is very present in MLP's universe, and the whole point of the beholder is that its thoughts and feelings magically shape the world around it, Plus, the nature of the beholder and its powers would make for an interesting conflict:

imagine an episode where Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle get in a particularly bad fight, only to have the map send them on a mission together. They spend the whole mission bickering and arguing until the moment they have to face off against the reason the map sent them, the beholder, only to be completely curbstomped by it. As they face the beast, he way the beholder isolates itself from other members of its own species - going as far as to actively chase them away - reminds Twilight of the loneliness of her old life, and how the only reason she moved on from said loneliness is because she learned to open herself to others; Starlight on the other hand is reminded of the villanous life she used to live by the beholder's use of magic to torment and control other creatures, realizing that if she hadn't allowed Twilight to help her she would've become just as bad as - if not worse than -  the creature. Twilight and Starlight remember how much they need each other and go back to working together, making them able to finally defeat the beholder.

Another monster that would make for an interesting plot would be a kobold, from both real world myth and D&D. A kobold is an anthropomorphic lizard that lives underground and worships dragons as if they were gods.

Imagine, if you will, an episode where Spike gets sent on his first mission, doesn't matter much with who it is, but i think Applejack would be a good choice, so let's use her as an example. Anyway, Spike tries to chat with AJ while they look for the problem only for Spike to find out that they disagree on so many things that they might as well have absolutely nothing in common. This culminates on them fighting over which way they should go and splitting up, Sike finds himself in a village of kobolds - which were the ones who needed help in the first place - and helps them out. Upon finding out he's a baby dragon, the kobolds immediately start veneering him like they'd do to any other dragon, at first Spike loves it, but quickly grows bored of it all and decides to leave, but the kobolds won't let him and ultimately force him to stay. After turning out to be wrong about which way to go and spending the entire episode searching for Spike,  Applejack hears him scream for help and runs to rescue him, AJ fights off the Kobolds, Spike explains what happened and the episode ends on Spike learning that friends who do nothing but praise you aren't real frends, and that it's ok for friends to criticize and disagree with each other.

Bonus points if the episode ends with Garble running into the same village of kobolds and becoming the neir new dragon of worship and if Spike says something among the lines of "So this is how Celestia feels" at some point.

 

Some monsters and creatures i'd like to see just because they're cool are fairies(that's kinda what the breezies are, but the breezies seemingly can't use magic) and giants.

Also their take on a Faun/Satyr would be fun after we've seen their minotaurs and centaurs (that they've made impressively NON-human so they fit in the show). And then there's this creature from Inuit legend I've recently learned about called the Akhlut that I want to take a shot at designing for the show. XD

A Gorgon would be a cool thing to see.

Maybe some more creatures from Egyptian mythology, since they’ve already done sphinxes.

Ents or living trees would be cool as well, since we already have timberwolves, it be cool to see some other animated plant life.

Ooh that's a pretty fun concept to work with, they could make a nightmare night episode where a vampire pony infiltrates Ponyville disguised as a trick-or-treater, infecting the townsfolk one by one until there's only a handful of characters left, and now they have to stop the vampire pony and find a cure for the vampirism before the sun rises and melts everypony. It's kinda dark but if the writers are smart they should be able to get it past the censors.

Imagine all the characters thinking they're just playing a nightmare night prank when they try to warn them about the vampire, only finding out that they were telling the truth after most of Ponyville's been vampirized already.

Not sure how they could implement this, but it'd be nice to see a mimic. Not to be confused with a doppelganger, a mimic is a monster that looks like a chest, a crate, or anything similar.

We've seen them do it in the comics, i don't see why it wouldn't be doable in the show as well.

Perhaps in Equestria, mimics are actually changeling larvae who diguise as such objects to avoid being attacked until they're old enough to fight for themselves.

If you open one while they're in disguise and look inside they start feeding on your emotions.

That's one huge danger noodle! I'm impressed. Now if that was a spider I'd be even more impressed and would probably hear @PathfinderCS screaming all the way in Florida. 

Speaking of, why not add in Unktomi. Basically a Native American spider god trickster.

Could you imagine him and Discord meeting and trying to out-trick eachother? It would be like an insane combination of "Magic Duel" and "Pinkie Pride"! I'm sure the animators would have a ton of fun with that concept.

Maybe they actually knew eachother beforehand, and Uktomi is like, Discord's mortal nemesis or something like among those lines.

I'm with @ShadOBabe, I really want another leviathan like Steven Magnet, but a bit more imposing. If we ever get a chance for a journey into the Luna Ocean or Celestia Sea, let there please be something big and scary beneath the waves.

Maybe the Mane 6 would be attacked by it while sailing to some far away land to fight a new villain, who could be the one responsible for the previous monster encounters we've cooked up together here. Perhaps it was all the doing of a villain who can control monsters, a..."Father of All Monsters", if you will? You know, someone not too different from...

Our good ol' fellow Typhon? Of course, Typhon was sealed away in a volcano for eternity, there's no way he could actually escape unless...Unless there was another villain who's running free through Equestria as of now, and could possibly free him? A villain who has a personal vendetta against the royal sisters, the mane 6 and ponykind as a whole, a villain who we know to be powerful enough to pull it off...perhaps an evil shapeshifting queen of some kind?

Eastern Dragon

More cosmic entities, like maybe we see Discord surfing around the universe and we see some monstrous space worm. Or something.

Pony Harpies.

 

But most of all, I would like to see some original show unique monsters.

The question I'd have about giants is would they be giant ponies, or giant humanoids?
Since the staff have a fairly hard "no humans" policy, all humanoid monsters have to be made more beastly, like tirek looking more like an ape in his face.

I think it'd actually be neat if they had some ancient steam punk machines buried underground from an ancient civilization or war somewhere.

 

Then again, they've gone from depicting the universe as being medieval to being full on Modern (look at the S7 finale's giant electric lights and billboards for crying out loud >.<) so it wouldn't be outlandish for someone to built modern machines/robots. (not a big fan of how the tech scale in the show has shifted though)

I believe giant ponies covered in long, white hair would be the most coherent decision, since ponies are the standard stand-ins for humans in the show and frost giants(jut like giants as a whole) are essentially bigger versions of regular humans.
