If a portal to Equestria appeared in our world, how long until Equestria gets a seat in the United Nations?

A portal between our world and the pony world appears, it cannot be closed. Communications are set up. How long until Equestria gets a seat in the United Nations?

Bonus: How would the United States react if another nation such as North Korea or Russia tried to attack Equestria? Would the U.S. just sit and watch or would the the U.S. rush to their defense?

Never. The charter deals with soverign nations and mentions our species multiple times. The argument that there would be a need to amend the Charter per Chapter XVIII to allow admittance to a non Terrestrial based nation would be made. 

Then, just look at the P5 and how absolutely protective they all are.

They might never be given a chance according to what Jeric said. But let's assume that Equestria was given an opportunity due to either a divine miracle or that humanity wanted to have some fun. It would take a very long time given how much red tape that needs to be gotten through. After all, the world's bureaucracy loves having that kind of thing.

Never. 

All the U.N. does is make empty threats and have arguments that lead no where while being so very non-committal to one goal or another. Not to mention that doing anything in the U.N. is a bureaucratic nightmare.  

How would the U.S. react if a hostile power tried to invade Equestria? With indifference, since Equestria isn't part of NATO or has any mutual defense pacts or treaties with the U.S. Just a hypothetical UN chair, which at best would give Equestria access to UN Peacekeepers, who probably couldn't even win a war with the nation of Sealand.

They'll also react with either amazement and/or horror as said invading country is curb stomped back into the dark ages when the gods of the sun and moon, and their allies composing of dragons, shape shifters, storm deities, spell casters, beast masters and a refugee from the Q continuum pretty much make fear and respect of pastel equines a genetic prerequisite in their enemy's bloodlines. 

What you should really be asking is when will the UN ask to have a seat on Equestria's friendship council?

Let's say the best possible outcome happens, and the ponykin are accepted into society and humans have no plans on colonizing or overthrowing them. There would be still much to learn about their species and vice versa. I'd say 5 years maybe 10, just to give both races enough time to get use to one another.

They’d go into defense mode cause humans absolutely will try to invade.  
 

Try as they might though it’d probably end in a deal to never interact with each other cause humans will learn that they aren’t going to beat magic.
