Gaming Metroid Prime 4 Delayed

Hello everypony!

Nintendo fans have been waiting since E3 2017 for news about Metroid Prime 4 when it was announced by Nintendo, and we finally got something out of it. It's being delayed because they are going to completely restart the development from scratch.

I don't blame Nintendo for this. When Metroid Other M came out, I was severely disappointed in the game. It wasn't nearly as good as it could have been. And then the fans hated Federation Force to no end, which I don't blame them for that. I think this could be interpreted as Nintendo acknowledging the fact that the fans don't want another average title like Other M. They certainly do appear to be serious about Prime 4, so I think the delay is for the best.

While I am sad that I won’t get to play it this year or soon, I’m glad it’s going back to Retro and they are taking their time to make a great game.

@Monado Dashie

I saw the video on YouTube about it. And while I don't hate Other M or Federation Force and can see how they can be fun to a minority of players, I can't deny they disappoint the fanbase on the whole.

This reminds me of Mother 2's development (Earthbound in America) when the game was full of so many bugs that Satori Iwata famously told them if you keep making the game as they were, it would take 2 years, but if they start fresh, it would take less time of about 6 months. They followed his advice and true to his word, starting fresh fixed many of the problems.

So, I understand why the MP4 team would start fresh and even if it takes longer than Earthbound's development, I rather take a game with little bugs that took more time in development than a game that was rushed too quickly. I wish good luck to the team.

I'd say that the earliest it will be released is sometime next year. Am I upset about this announcement? Not really as I had a suspicion that they weren't ready to show off anything be it playable or not. However, the most diehard Metroid fans are likely to be outraged.

I’d say Other M is a decent game, but I do criticize Samus’ character regression and story. Federation Force was a better spin-off than Prime Hunters in my opinion, but I believe it was hated more of circumstance than anything else

Well, I’m a bit sad with the delay, as I LOVE Metroid, probably more than Zelda. But if they weren’t confident in the game, I think that was a wise move to take it to it’s old master: Retro Studios. However, I do think they underdelivered with Corruption, but I suppose Nintendo as a whole was at fault with it’s “WII phase”. I do have confidence Retro Studios will deliver, as Nintendo seems to have gotten back on track

But the Wii System was great at getting non-gamers to join in the fun too!

I guess, but the games themselves where inferior over the Gamecube ones

I must admit I was a little upset by the news but I adore Nintendo's transparency on it and I have much more faith now that Retro is working on it. It will most definitely be worth the wait.

Seeing Retro come back is definitely nice, but this makes me wonder what Nintendo originally had before getting Retro on board. iirc, Reggie said a while back that they had a playable build of MP4

Still hoping to see MPT HD to tide us over though

My guess is it didn't really fit with what the Prime trilogy was, coupled with the rumor of the game being developed in multiple locations.
