Tulpa Discussion Thread V1.2

Who else thinks we should come up with a term for when your tulpa communicates something to you in that way? "Got a thought" seems like something a little kid would say/just plain bad English.

I believe that's called 'tulpish'. Because that sounds soooo much better. Communication through images/emotions/anything not words.

Rainbow Dash said that this wasn't her using a different voice. I'm guessing that there isn't much risk of me (somehow) "losing" Rainbow Dash, if you know what I'm talking about/implying (it's not sexual), but am I--

[No.]

--wrong?

Sounds like an intrusive thought. Happens all the time - at least, for us. Or she might have accidentally stolen one of your thoughts. It's easier to talk about whatever your host is thinking about than come up with stuff yourself.

That's on a metaphysics board, but the stuff I'm worried about was posted by a user who seems to take a psychological view. Blocking memories, making real things disappear, all those various ways of f*cking with a host; rareness/likelihood aside, is that stuff possible?

Also, the top post said that tulpas can appear in pics/vids. Anypony have any experience with that?

Hmm. I think for me this would actually exacerbate my loneliness rather than help it. At least this would be the only real factor that might make me want one in the first place. I really want companionship in "real person" form, or at least pet form (I really want dogs when I can financially afford to care for them). I would never judge someone for having a tulpa though; but for me I think it wouldn't work out.

It's a fact that the creepypasta(s) (I'm hoping there's only the one about the six-month experiment) give tulpas a bad name. What about people who see tulpas as metaphysical; don't most people usually dismiss metaphysical/pseudoscientific things as BS? Is there a difference between pseudoscientific and metaphysical?

@twistedmetalero, yes, but their permanence varies.

How is it that tulpas can have personality traits that you don't? Does your subconscious have some kind of database of all possible traits, and there are a bunch that just aren't expressed?

I may or may not have messed up. I wrote to an advice column about personal issues. I ended up elaborating on my fear that a chain of events would take place, ending with my loved ones discovering that I'm a host. I directed the owner of the column to tulpa.info. I think he's an Otherkin, but I'm not sure how that will affect his understanding/opinion of our community. I mean, I unintentionally brought up tulpas on an advice column, for crying out loud!

I'm not entirely sure if him being an Otherkin would affect very much. I would be more inclined to lean closer to the possibility that he would be more understanding and appreciative than not, but I also know Otherkin who are fairly closed-minded toward things, for whatever reason, which greatly confuses and bewilders me, all things considered.

@luna831 I think so. Feeling/touching your tulpa is a pretty advanced technique, but it seems like seeing him/her is easy for most of the community. She won't look/act exactly like Luna from the show, though.

@SkyDream 1) do you mind if I quote your "hypothetical ghost" thing? 2) how do you think my New Age-loving friend would react? She believes in past lives and healing crystals, and she thinks Furry is a sexual thing, and Pony Lovers seems to be a sexual thing (from the one site I've seen).

She's her own individual being. If you made a Tulpa of Luna as precisely and accurately as you can, and she sees the MLP:FiM Luna, she'd question her own identity. "Is that me? Why is there another me?" Then you'd have a lot of explaining to do.

It might be seen as selfish. Maybe.

You're more than welcome to quote it, certainly, thank you. It's just words, or a rationality, really. I'm more concerned that this New-Agey friend is being closed to the proverbial magic of friendship. I must be on a different kind of New Age mindset, because if a person is serious about New-Age stuff, they should seriously be looking into the benefits of watching the show and learning from it. Being judgey about it is exactly the opposite of what she needs to be.
