Anyone Else Not Watching Season 9?

I'm curious--is anyone else planning on skipping the final season?

To begin with, I wouldn't be able to write fanfiction because my brain would constantly be reminding me that the show is over.

I started getting frustrated with the writers in season seven--I didn't like the way the "pillars of harmony" story arc was handled.

Also, the friendship academy was a terrible idea (IMO). How old are the main six? In their twenties? Why are they already training their replacements?

Just in case we're still doing SPOILER WARNINGS.

I'm not one to skip over seasons of pretty much any show, only time I skip things is if im re-watching, and KNOW the episode is bad IMO.

Also I seem to be one of the only ponies alive that actually enjoys Season 8 / The Young Six, so there's that x3

Now, that being said, I'm probably not gonna re-watch the final episode; I'm sad / depressed enough as it is RN, I don't need the final song to play again and make me feel even worse .3.

Made that decision the moment the marketing was released. Them doing the whole "Oh how sad that this show is ending" killed my enthusiasm entirely right out of the gate, so I said screw it and refused to watch season 9. From the looks of it, seems like I made a good choice.

A...little late to be asking that question with Season 9 being over. :P "Anyone Else Not Reading the Season 10 Comic?" would be more relevant, but regardless, my disappointments with Season 9 were very minor. None of them were from things that were badly written in my eyes, just things that I would've written differently.

I stopped watching after 2,4,6 but not really because I wanted to, but because I legit couldn't find the episodes. Though I'm not sure if I'm really interested in watching most of the rest of the series, or maybe just watching The Ending of the End and The Last Problem and calling it done, or maybe just not doing that at all because I already know how it all ends.~

Much like @Kyoshi, I was also turned off by S9's marketing, yet I still tried to watch it. However, after the "Castle Sweet Castle" rehash with the Student 6 "Uprooted," only the third episode in, I decided to stop watching altogether. And quite frankly, I think I made the right decision. :proud:

Watched only The Last Problem and called it a day. I mean really don't care too. I mean I got three (I would be fine if they were just in the season 8 premier and finale and call it a day) reasons (I never cared for her as a character. I mean reforming her was a cute idea and all, but she should have been punished for her crimes) why *sigh*. Okay for the first two, I don't mind the idea of keeping the series as fresh as long as they could, I mean I don't  the third reason is just a long grudge.

While I actually enjoyed the The Last Problem, the time skip was a bit bother some to me. But not enough to make me dislike it. But however the same reaons why I won't finish season 5 and watch seasons 6-9. I mean what I know about them is just just all spoilers anyways. :unamused:

Of course I watched it, as I didn't really have a reason not to. I did take a bit of break between some of the episodes, but I caught up in the mid-season hiatus.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Same for me, one of my favorite seasons as well. It was not perfect (no season is) but personally I really liked how they made an effort to give a sense of closure to many characters.

On a side-note, personally I do feel the school of friendship was one of the better ideas in this series. It really nailed that friendship is for everyone, not just for ponies, and that everyone can make friends and show kindness. It enriched the MLP experience for me by including other characters and cultures with the Student 6, and showing that no one is better or above the other.

This is why I liked "She's all Yak" so much, because it made Twilight and her friends realize how others could feel uncomfortable by pony-only concepts, and made a sincere effort to adapt their traditions and include the Student 6 and their cultures in them. I thought it was a wholesome message about how understanding goes both ways.

I skipped it until it was over, once I realized trying to follow along while it aired was going be a real drag and frustrating, then caught up over the course of half a week.

@Anti-Villain, I like that phrase, "Fanon Discontinuity" and that idea, and I think I'll do that too.

I respect that. :)

I just didn't feel that the show needed to "semi-retire" the Mane Six/Seven. There was still story to be told.

Also, the last episode time skip was kind of a punch in the gut for me; it felt as if the writers were kind of stealing away fans' ability to "continue" the story through fanfiction.

They were still plenty prominent in the last couple of seasons - it's their episodes weren't very well-written.

And the epilogue detaches well enough for those who want to chart their own course, while offering plenty of gaps and ambiguities for those who prefer to work off a framework.

I used to do plenty of fan fiction years ago. For me, a show’s finality never determined whether I stuck with it or not. Canon is a tool, not a barrier. Whether you want to follow FIM’s canon to a T or not is completely up to you.

If you’re worried about TLP drying away ideas, don’t be. It’s your story, write what you want.
