Episodes that you like/love that other people dislike/hate?

Here's my list...don't hate me although, you probably do already :(

  • The Cart Before the Ponies - Ummm it's my favourite childhood trio entering a kart race?? Not a lot of you know this about me but I wanna be a racecar driver, and I have a go-karting problem.
  • Spike At Your Service - I like this episode. Idk why, guess I just like Applejack and Spike's interactions...also I'm a wee bit of an Applespike shipper, so...
  • One Bad Apple - Other than the episode below this, this was my favourite episode as a kid! I would sing Babs Seed all the time :)
  • Too Many Pinkie Pies - My childhood, my childhood, my childhood. I CAN QUOTE THIS EPISODE BACKWARDS!
  • The Show Stoppers - Ummm, also my childhood. I would legit blast the CMC Theme Song around the house. And guess what? To this day I still love it! :)
  •  Putting Your Hoof Down - It's just a cute episode...idk..

I am not really sure how many episodes I like that considered bad for the majority of the fandom(like a lot of the episodes in later seasons), the best examples are probably newbie dash, rainbow falls and 2,4,6, great. I like all these episodes. Maybe one bad apple too, its one of my favorite season 3 episodes.

One Bad Apple, Too Many Pinkie Pies, Putting Your Hoof Down, The Show Stoppers, Newbie Dash, Mysterious Mare Do Well, 28 Pranks Later, Tanks for the Memories, Fame and Misfortune, and maybe a few more that I can't recall from memory.

I liked Fame and Misfortune over Once Upon A Zeppelin as far as fandom characterization. While the 'fans' in OUAZ were seen as understanding and accommodating in the end, they were still portrayed as ignorant and demanding for the most part. FAM's 'fans' were portrayed as being overtly critical. But that happens when you have a fan base. Not everyone agrees and everyone has an opinion on what could be better. To not have those kinds of opinions means to not care at all. The moral was also better. Do what you love for the reasons you loved it in the first place, regardless of what anyone else says, over the 'get your true feelings out and everyone needs a break' shtick.

Fame was about making a difference, regardless of divisive opinions. Zeppelin was about fans being a burden on celebrities.

I also liked Spike at your Service, cause it's one of the few Spike centric episodes where he isn't an immature troublemaker. Also Cart Before the Ponies. How often do we see the CMC being in the right and their big sister ponies needing a lesson?

I have a long list but I’ll choose an easy one. Spike At Your Service I genuinely think is one of the show’s funniest episodes

I agree! I don't get the hate for it.

  • Somepony to Watch Over Me is an episode I find to be absurdly misunderstood, especially the way AJ was acting. I felt like she was plainly being a responsible older sister. I honestly would say it's her best episode in the entire series, and honestly probably one of the best episodes in the series as a whole.
  • To Where and Back again is honestly one of the show's best finales, and I don't know why it gets so much flak.
  • Spice Up Your Life is honestly an episode I didn't find bad at all. In fact, it's probably one of the best episodes of Season 6.
  • I honestly enjoyed Owl's Well that Ends Well, and find it to be far from the worst of the first season.
  • Feeling Pinkie Keen is one of those episodes that although is really goofy, is part of its charm. I honestly enjoyed the slapstick nature of it, even if I can agree that it's message is a bit misguided to say the least.
  • I have no idea why Student Counsel gets as much hate as it seems to... It's honestly the best episode in Season 9.

My guess is that its

A.) A returning villain / not someone new

B.) S6 is where Glimmy was finally converted into a good guy, so I believe it's also where the Glimmy hate train originated.

C.) Color Bugs...nuff said (Even if I adore the reformed changelings)

Anyway, I'm gonna reverse the topic here and talk about an episode that I hate that I'm sure the fandom finds okay / enjoys: Baby Cakes

I honestly seriously dislike babies in general, so having an entire episode based around them ruined it for me, and I still skip that eps to this day.

And that's why I enjoyed it. That and the song was awesome despite falling on deaf ears

I also liked "Spike at Your Service" – while it isn't without its problems, it has several very funny moments that make it enjoyable. I also didn't find "28 Pranks Later" and "Owl's Well That Ends Well" bad at all.

That has always been a bit of a mystery to me, as well. I do think Applejack's logic was hilariously flawed – she can't leave Apple Bloom alone for a second, and AB then almost gets eaten by a chimera, which convinces AJ she can look after herself (rather than becoming even more protective). But that aside, it's my favorite of the four I mentioned here and a strong episode in general. I like the more adventurous tone in parts (something not often found in the CMC episodes, at least to this extent), and it's one of my favorites focusing on one of the CMCs. Not to mention some entertaining moments, such as the way they make fun of the characters' habit of suddenly breaking into song (not the only time we've had that happen, but it never stopped being funny). :ButtercupLaugh:

That’s one of S2’s most unpopular episodes

I enjoyed Fame and Misfortune, Flutter Brutter, Magical Mystery Cure and Spike at your Service, despite them not being very popular among the fandom. To be honest, there are only two episodes in the whole series which I dislike.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Pretty much every Starlight episode :-P

Nah, I know she isn't hated that much anymore, but I will say two in particular (Every Little Thing She Does and A Matter of Principles) I've defended since they've aired and will continue to do so when it comes to certain aspects most others dislike about the episodes.

Only one I don't agree with you is 'The Cart Before the Ponies'. The rest of them are great IMO.

Is it hated? I didn't know! That's exactly the best episode on S9!

  • 28 Pranks Later
  • What About Discord?
  • Father Knows Best
  • Applejack's Day Off
  • Putting Your Hoof Down
  • P.P.O.V.
  • Flutter Brutter

These aren't my favorite episodes, but still consider them good engough episodes. I get why people hate Flutter Brutter because I also hated that mf too, but I don't get why people hate 28 Pranks Later and What About Discord so much. And for Father Knows Best, I think it's on the fandom over-hyping themselves up and idolizing Spike's missing parents. I actually consider Putting Your Hoof Down a good episode that dissects Fluttershy's character and a true interpretationof her. P.P.O.V. and Applejack's Day Off are just ridiculous episodes which is exactly the point.

There are far more episodes that I don't find it interesting that people love.

I think many typical Spike episodes are hated because of the character, mostly because the episodes rehashes the same aspect of the character and the audience find it annoying. Also in many cases, it's because of being too predictable in a bad way, and the audience is just waiting for obvious things to happen. For me, I don't like that episode that much interesting or hatable, just meh for the entertainment value.

I'm mostly ok with the episode, but when Applebloom gets out of home by herself and proves that she might have been killed without Applejack's help, Applejack teaches the opposite lesson. It might have felt right if they had the  Apploosa's most wanted punishment at the end.

To Where and Back again is honestly one of the show's best finales, and I don't know why it gets so much flak.

I think it's mostly because people don't accept things happening and not getting to see it. That's why S4 premiere had the unnecessary princess fight flashback, and Applejack's parents episode, and the episode Discord being close to Mane Six suddenly was hated. And I also presume that the show seemed like pushing Starlight into the spotlight too obviously and the princesses paid for that.

I like the episode though. (for that matter, Starlight's shortened redemption and apologies to the town ponies is a different issue, because it isn't just a setting, it has to have an emotional weight to it.) I'm ok with the S6 finale because I was sick of the typical primeire/finale formulas. But if it was a serious, meaninful, first threat, the show would be obligated to the audience to show the steps of canterlot invasion. It is forgivable because the same thing happened before.

The episode was good, but the song was kinda cringy, I think that's what happens when the writer isn't familliar with the genre.

I like the episode for the entertainment value, but the lesson and how the lesson was taught was a huge turn off for me bakc then, probably the worst lesson of all MLP. Disregard for logic and scientific processing, and how the episode drew out that conclusion wasn't also fair (imagine Batman and Superman fighting for different agendas, and suddenly Batman slips on a banana and breaks his neck, making his point proven to be wrong)

I know it's a simple fun episode and it's entertaining and funny, but the lesson was too fundamentally wrong and pathological (and familiar at the same time) for such lighthearted show.
