While I'm glad to see MLP is catching on in Japan (was there ever any doubt?), I can't STAND Pinkie Pie's voice!  Too bad they couldn't have gotten Ogatamon to voice Pinkie.  For those who don't know who that is, she's famous on Youtube for fandubbing MLP clips in Japanese.

To follow up my Five Things I Love About Pinkie Pie report, it's time for a Pinkie Pie video! Some songs and ponies go so well together that you can Google it and immediately get some predictable but great results. That was the case here when I searched for PMVs using the song Maniac. Was there ever any doubt the featured pony would be Pinkie? 

 

Do not adjust your volume. The music starts at 0.06 when Pinkie puts the needle on the record.

 

Why am I quoting myself?  Because I read that this excellent PMV finally got onto EQD!  A little more than a week ago, it only had 183 views.  It now has over 1,000.  In the future, I will take the time to learn how to make good PMVs on my own.  Until then, I will do whatever I can to give under-appreciated quality PMVs made by others the attention and accolades they deserve.

OK, you may be asking, "Why should I watch this?" I’ll give you two good reasons.  One, Fluttershy’s G1 predecessor, Posey, is one of the focal characters in this episode.  Two, Peter Cullen, the voice actor best known for his role as Optimus Prime, is the voice of the crab nasties’ captain.  He is lovingly dubbed by fans as Crabbimus Prime!  Besides the addition of wings, there are some subtle distinctions between Posey and Fluttershy.  For instance, Flutters is primarily drawn to animals while Posey has a bias towards flowering plants.  Those preferences are reflected in their different names and cutie marks.  However, the understanding that flora and fauna go together is evident in either pony.  Therefore her great love of nature is one thing that never changed. My next comment is a spoiler pertaining to the episode shown. 

 

 

The old TV trope that all things cute aren’t necessarily good has been around forever, preceding the endlessly parodied Star Trek classic Trouble With Tribbles.  Just as Fluttershy showed misplaced kindness to the adorable looking parasprites, Posey makes a rush to judgment based on her sympathy toward all flowery things.  The plot is also laid out to lead the viewer into thinking the flowers are weak, harmless creatures who are being wrongly persecuted by "evil" crab nasties in part one.  The truth comes out in due time, of course.  And aren’t boulder tossing flower thingies kinda rough for a little girls' cartoon?

These videos are my favorite even though they are  kinda creepy   Still though, the animation is great and so is the story board of what's happening. The Fluttershy video is calm at first and then goes to electronic dubstep, and the animation/video fits right into it. The too many PInkie Pies is REALLY creepy...

OK, time for the final PMV from Ralph Bromley's Pony A Day project. And I saved the best for last: Rainbow Dash! It's only fitting considering she's going to be winning that March Madness tourney very soon.

 

 

The sonic rainboom still ranks as the most pulse-pounding, dramatic scene in the series to me. It's why I started watching MLP:FiM in the first place.  The only downside is, due to this and all the other Rainbow Dash PMVs I have watched lately, I no longer feel moved when I see it.  If I see anything enough times, it will stop having an effect on me. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

As I'm sure most of you know by now, our friends in Japan are finally receiving a Japanese-dubbed version of MLP.  Well, as is to be expected, that dub comes along with its very own Japanese opening!!!  Fillies and gentlecolts, I present to you the Japanese opening for MLP... and it's a minute and a half long.  That's right, A MINUTE AND A HALF LONG, HOW THE BUCK DID THEY DO THAT?!?!
