EVO 2020, which was to be an online tournament in 2020, has been cancelled. Earlier, it was reported that EVO CEO Joey Cuellar was being placed on administrative leave following several accusations of sexual misconduct. Following these events, several game brands announced they were no longer going to participate in the event, including Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Now, the event will no longer go ahead, and Cuellar will no longer be involved with EVO.

In a statement released to Twitter, it has been announced that Tony Cannon is taking over as CEO, and that he is "prioritizing greater accountability across Evo, both internally and at our events."

This is around the same time a bunch of Smash players were accused of sexual misconduct, so this seems to be a major problem in the fighting game community. How can we fix this problem?

How on earth does a few hundred people ( at most ) equate to a huge problem when the total number of fighting game enthusiasts number in the hundreds of thousands if not in the million plus mark?

It’s not just evo, pretty much every FGC, especially Smash is getting rocked with pedo and rape allegations, with most of them straight up admitting it

I mean, a few hundred people is still a problem.

Yes any illegal activities are a problem, especially when they are hurting people. However there is a big difference between something being an issue and something being a big issue within a community. The original statement is the same type of language used when people make claims of video games causing violence any time a game does something violent.

It’s more prominent when it includes both the top players in the community and the very people in charge

Kind of was to be expected. Let's remember most of the very top players are either furries, asians or weabos xD

Sounds as a very innapropiate comment, but let's remember asian culture is not as severe regarding pedophilia, furries are the shallow internet's nest for sexual deviants and weabos are prone to like lollicon.

This is probably what most people say about bronies as well. Way to generalize people.

We will see how many of these “allegations” actually stick.

A few have receipts and some of the people accused(such as Nairo and MrWiz) have already admitted to it

I'm just pointing out things you can check by yourself. You can have a look at age consent over asian countries, have a look at social studies performed on the furry fandom and also check tendencies amongst weabos, and finally, check the top players on the fighting game comunity. I'm not making generalizations, just pointing out at the elephant in the living room.

And once again, I wouldn't dare say "bronies" have not been turning into anything like that. Unfortunately, newbloods are nothing like the veterans were, and furry population has grown within the fandom a whole lot. And not only that, bronies became trendy and suddenly we were the sanctuary for creeps and we saw a lot of weird people join to have their weird stuff and shield themselves behind the fandom's name.

Such a problem will take time to fix especially since the value of trust has been shattered.

That's disappointing that the event was cancelled because someone was accused of sexual misconduct.

It wasn't just accusations though, plenty of people have already been confessing to it
