There's no real way to know for sure, as such a situation isn't ever brought up in the show. It is worth mentioning the Storm King's statue was shattered in the movie, but he was still shown as alive

I don't know actually. Knowing Discord, smashing the statue would probably set him free

You could argue putting the statue into a state of... disorder (whether it be by smashing, exploding, chiseling, etc) would be an activator to his power  .

He can't really die...he can only fade away if he chooses accord rather than well...discord...
