I've been thinking and come to the conclusion that I use Smileys in almost every sentence I write when im chattim with people. xD I find it quite annoying when people never write smileys because the message just looks so empty without them lol

 

Do you use smileys alot or do you never use smileys?

Those would be the emoticons I use most often. Sentences that I make for those emotes feel lacking if they don't have it, although the happy face is used a ton more than any other face.

Anyway I use smileys too much, but I just love to do it. Smileys make me feel like the message is more personal and upbeat.

Plus I love to see Rarity's face.

Angry Fluttershy is pretty awesome too.

Back when I was a noob (at another forum), I smiley spammed all the time. However, they started getting sad because I was emotionless. So now, at that forum, inhale to use at least one in every sentence, or be as random as this guy named Boyue.

 

Seriously, they made it a rule, but took it off since it was a joke.

I use them way too much. Sometimes I look at my chat log on facebook/text messages I sent/whatever else I may have written and I almost have one smiley every sentence. It's probably pretty annoying to read honestly. I'm trying to limit myself, but it's not easy.

On-topic. I believe I use smileys a bit too often. Sometimes they are entirely uncalled for. Though I try to only use them when they actually add something to the message. Such as " " or " " to make it clear that a message is meant to be silly or non-offensive (respectively).

 

If that makes sense...

My only fear, similar to Shank's encounter, is that someone might misinterpret a smiley to mean something serious. More often than not, a " " is not intended to be a serious message a love, much like " " shouldn't be interpreted as someone actually yelling at you from their computer screen.

 

That's not to say they can't be used seriously, but more often than not they are linked to humor.

You can't always trust smileys either. :(

It depends who I'm talking to or what mood I'm in. I do find myself using them a lot less than I used to.
