Just seeing that video (watched the whole thing) makes me want to take a hot bath for about three hours! OMG! To make matters worse, many of them were running around in the snow with...BARE FEET! My feet hurt just to think about it! (Don't like the cold much!)

Yeah, I don't know if you had subtitles, but they were essentially saying how happy they were to do that etc.  For example, the boy said that this was his first time in the ice water, but that he will be doing this again the next year. The woman is doing this for 26 years. One man was asked what was the lowest temperature when he did this - he said -15C.

Yeah, if you don't like cold, then this is not for you. What people also do is go to a sauna, get real hot (there are two ways to do this - either temperature of about 70-80C, and very high humidity, what we call "Russian version"  OR rather dry but temperature over 100C, what we call a "Finnish version"), then, after staying there for a few minutes, go jump in the snow (or in water) or dump a bucket of cold water on the head getting very high temperature contrast. Apparently, this is also good for health.

I think I would like to take a sauna with high humidity, but is the cold water mandatory? LOL Part of my aversion is more to do with being in the actual water, than the temperature. I have a thing against germs and whatnot in swimming pools. As for lakes and the ocean? Get back to me when fish stop pooping! I don't want to hang out where 'things' are living!

Now if it was a hot water challenge, I used to get in trouble all the time for using up the hot water when I was little. My mom always said I was going to hurt myself because I always came out, as she said..."Red as a lobster!" I would take baths so hot that it took me minutes to ease into the water!

No, you can do whatever you want, though the cold water feels nice (and makes me stop sweating faster than if I just cooled down normally after exiting the sauna. Some people may have a shower instead of a bucket (tough I think a bucket is better).

If it's germs you don't like then you can always fill the bucket with tap water, not water from an lake.

But yeah, sit there in the high heat, pour some water on the hot stones and feel your ears "rolling up". Then there are the "fans" you can use - well, basically a tree branch with leaves. Fanning the hot air makes it feel even hotter.

Until now I was unaware there was anything called an internet challenge. Apparently they come in all shapes and sizes but that stuff isn’t for me. Life is difficult enough without asking for more potential problems, health issues, unnecessary risks and intense discomfort. I guess I’ll have to keep plugging along in my tame, ordinary life.
