what if Rainbow dash was the main character?

how would the my little pony would have gone if rainbow dash was the main character 

 would Rainbow dash be a great leader? or would she become a alicorn

good point  maybe Rainbow dash would mature into a great leader and would battle Lord Tirek and maybe Rainbow dash would try to do all three of her job

 

well Twillight would still a normal unicorn and her role would be loyalty maybe? i don't know

She would have a difficult time balancing leadership skills and responsibilities.  You ponies must recall Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Season 2 when Tommy Oliver became the White Ranger and was promoted as leader of the Power Rangers.  But what came out of this is that some few Power Rangers left the show  But the original Red Ranger came back as the Gold Ranger during Zeo

but there would always have been something missing. I see Dashie alone as the Spitfire from Equestria Games. Fierce. Driven. Loyal. But not above sacrificing the odd Equestria team-mate to succeed.

Being my second favorite character, I could see it being an interesting concept, but the show would have to go down a very different route. For one, she couldn't become an alicorn. It sort of worked for Twilight's character (I still liked her as a unicorn better, but at least being an alicorn made some sense for her character), but it wouldn't have worked for any of the other mane six.

Secondly, the series would have to be more themed to flight and weather control than magic (which doesn't actually sound like a bad idea to me). Of course unicorn magic would still play a role in the show, with Twilight still being a main character, but it would be a tad less than it is with her as the lead.

Some of the pros that come with her being the main character is: more screen time and development for the pegasi and their abilities, more information on Rainbow Dash's past, and a better chance that the writers would try to write her well. A con however is that she sometimes isn't the best when it comes with leadership, which could be a problem if she was the main character. Don't get me wrong, episodes like "Hurricane Fluttershy" show that she does have the ability to be a great leader, it's just that other episodes have written her otherwise. Overall, I think it could work; many aspects of the show would just need to be improvised in order to do so.

Seriously though, as much as I love Rainbow Dash (best mane six), I'm not sure she would work as the central character.  The cartoon was built around an ensemble cast with Twilight as the 'fish out of water' that provides our entry point and allows us to see the world through her eyes so that we can learn about the world as she does.  I'm not sure Rainbow Dash would really work as well in that role.  It is possible to have too much of a good thing.

I'm completely sure the MLP:FiM would be just as great as it is with Twilight as the main character. You could write the story with her as the protagonist and some things would change of course for example a more focus on Pegasi instead of Unicorns. Maybe some would not like that but in my opinion this wouldn't hurt or change the show too much especially not in its core values and spirit.

Well the show would now revolve around Rainbow Dash's archetype. Similar characters I could think of are Korra of Legend of Korra, Violet from Arcane, I'm sure yall could think of others. 

So thinking of how Rainbow Dash is I'd point out a few elements about her: cocky, loyal, fun loving, afraid to show affection at times, secretly afraid of underperforming that she covers up with boasting. 

Twilight was a smart pony who did not care about having friends (except Spike). She valued research and academics, and the show (at first) revolved around her learning how to be a good friend and evolved to using those lessons to assist others with problems and more nuanced situations as the show went on. 

So in the later seasons newer writers fell short of writing good RD episodes or good supporting Rainbow Dash. For every good episode there was one where she was a total "B****" 

I assume this was because of the lack of direction. They probably described her archetype but forgot to mention how much growth she's had and then you have episodes like "2,4,6, greaaat" which are terrible and make her look terrible and not like a good friend.

For this show to work it would have to be her learning how to be a good friend and really embody her loyalty element. Possibly involving her joining the wonderbolts. Maybe having the rainboom becoming one of her special abilities to defeat enemies instead of just being for show. Etc. etc. etc. 

I'll paint a quick picture: Rainbow Dash is shown being a mean pony to somepony meek "(let's say Fluttershy cuz of already established lore). And possibly other scenes where she's being just generally selfish and mean possibly on the sports team at her school etc. similar to Twilight being in magic school. Her antics end up having her expelled. Her parents want to put her in a better environment to improve her behavior. So they move to Ponyville. Fast forward multiple years and she is an adult but not much has changed with her personality. She still has the cloud busting job. She meets Twilight Sparkle who is studying abroad on a mission from Princess Celestia, tho this time she isn't as disinterested in friendship so the focus could stay on Rainbow. Twilight meets Rainbow and at first Rainbow doesn't like some pony over her shoulder critiquing her work but is interested in Twilight being involved with the princess and being from canterlot. Not too much at first. Remember Twilight was at first a bit full of herself during magic school and a bit after cuz she thought she was smarter than everyone etc. so in this version she will be almost matching Rainbow's boastful nature and they start having friendly competition. Rainbow is enjoying this which is new to her. Quick somber scene where she sees Fluttershy walking in the village and Rainbow is pondering but we dont know what. Nothing happens. She had plans to meetup with Twilight and right when they're about meet BAM! Nightmare Moon. Twilight was distracted hanging out with Rainbow she never looked for signs. And bang they work together to find a way to stop her leading into a friendship between the two. Their able to weaken her together with the magic of friendship they gather together but will need to find clues to defeating her the next time they encounter her. 

In this version I envisioned Nightmare Moon being a constant villain throughout the season as opposed to being finished in the two episodes. Also she is weaker therefore not making her a constant threat and still allowing for a slice of life feel of the show. Rainbow encounters the rest of the main six throughout the season and slowly gains a relationship with them along with others (scootaloo etc.) She already knew them after living in Ponyville for years but after getting a relationship with Twilight she has a new outlook open to friendship etc. They will be working together to discover the secrets of the elements of harmony. Twilight gets her element in the first two episodes with Rainbow's help, the rest of the mane six get theirs throughout the season and Rainbow finally gets hers "loyalty" at the end of the season and theyre able to stop Nightmare Moon in the end. 

Maybe a little bit too serious. But this is one way where I think Rainbow Dash being the main character would work and be enjoyable imo.
