A Rogue-Like Shoot 'em up Game

The game is in early stage of development and everything seen there is not indicative of the final product.

A B O U T

=============================================

Shups is a game in which you're controlling a spaceship and your objective is to survive the endless swarm of enemies. The game challenges players with constantly raising difficulty, which makes enemies more and more aggressive as the time goes to the point, where it becomes unbearable.

Your aid in the endless fight are items, that allow you to raise your parameters indefinitely. Some items will cause various effects to happen and these too, can be stacked for even more mayhem! Aside that, destroying enemy ships grants player experience, which boosts base parameters with each level-up.

The game currently lacks any real goal to achieve and therefore, players are expected to die at some point. The current challenge is to survive as long as possible.

The game features update notifications and allows you to automatically download update packages within the application.
However, due to limitations, the application is unable to modify any game files and therefore, the update installation has to be performed manually.
After the updater finishes downloading the package, it will automatically run the installer for you and from there, it is recommended to INSTALL THE UPDATED GAME IN THE SAME LOCATION you've installed it initially. Doing so will replace game files with new updated ones, without any hiccups.

P L A N N E D   F E A T U R E S

These are currently planned features, but things may change in the future.

> PROPER STAGE SYSTEM AND ENDING <
Basically, the goal will be to travel through paths to #ENEMY BASE# and wreck the main boss.
There will be different stages with moving backgrounds and whatsoever.
After each stage, players will be able to choose the next stage from randomly generated paths.
Each stage will have randomized effects, that lower/boost enemy stats and yield less/better loot.

[ GAMEPLAY ]
added: New Stages - After each 20th Enemy Level, enemies will stop spawning and once player destroys all remaining enemies, they'll be taken to the next stage. The final stage is 5th and the enemies will be getting much more aggressive after some time there. Currently there's no real ending to achieve, so players are expected to die at some point, the current challenge is to survive as long as possible. The backgrounds are static and there's not much in them, for now it's just a cheap way to visualise some sort of progress. The stage system itself will be a major update once the right time comes.

added: New Enemy - Sniper - These ships will start aiming at players once they set their position. After two seconds of aiming, they'll instantly damage the player within the laser sight.

added: Different music tracks here and there to add a bit of variety.

changed: Reworked enemy spawn system. Instead of spawning a single enemy at specific, short intervals, they'll be spawning less frequently, but in groups. The enemy types and patterns vary between stages.

changed: Enemies level up every 20 seconds instead of 30.

added: Enemies now have a 7% chance to drop a repair bubble / orb, that restores 15% HP. The orb will follow the nearest player, begging to be picked. Relying on regeneration items (thus RNG) only was rather awkward in early stages.

buffed: Increased explosion radius of Rocket Burst's rockets from 5m to 7m.

added: Item Rarity System - Now all items have rarity tier assigned to them, which impacts their drop rate. There are 4 rarity tiers: Common (White), Uncommon (Green), Rare (Blue) and Legendary (Orange). Whenever an item spawns, the rarity tier will be chosen (chances from lowest to highest: 80%, 15%, 4%, 1%) and the item will be randomly picked from the corresponding tier. It's been a long time since the last update and there are two reasons. First, I have been rather busy with real life and such. Second, I somewhat got stuck at drawing icons for items. I hardly consider myself an artist, and drawing these budget icons turned out to be somewhat underwhelming. While I enjoy working on every single aspect of video games, creating graphic assets is quite challenging for me.

Either way, I finally got back on track and made some progress, totally not because my brother threatened me to bully me if I didn't do anything. 👀

The icons of all currently implemented items are posted below. Some are okay, some are less okay, but in my opinion everything looks better than having these displayed as ID numbers, right?

Of course there's just few of them at the moment, many, many, many more are planned. It's just the beginning...

The icons alone were the main goal of the update, but I figured it would be a bit boring to just push an update with some graphics only, so I've adjusted few other things as well.

Players mentioned, that the player missiles/rockets are hardly visible. I agree it was hard to see where they go, or whether they even were fired at all. These now leave a trail, so not only they're more visible, but it's also easier to tell where they're headed. I hope this addition will be satisfying in that regard.

The shield is something that bothered me, because when stacked enough, there was more shield than HP, and while that itself isn't really an issue, the problem were HP regeneration effects, that would work only when the shield was depleted and the ship was actually damaged. In an attempt to balance this, I made the shield block 75% of incoming damage, and pass the rest 25% to HP. This way the player will benefit from HP regeneration right after receiving a hit, even when the shield will be still up.

Other than this, few items received buffs to their damage and AoE.
