I think the flim flam brothers or another villain would try to exploit it in some way. It would benefit equestria in the short term but in the long term it would be used for greed and corruption, ether monetary or authoritative.

War over resources? Not all races have the power of magic. So, there will be those who want to seize power by other means, like Yakyakistan or Saddle Arabia, maybe.

Probably an industrial conglomerate of ponies taking advantage of the instability to plot against the "monarchy", putting the life of Celestia, or Twilight at risk, and screwing over the working pony class. Leading to further public unrest and eventual civil war. This brings the pegasi into the conflict, by conscription into to the royal guard force to defend the interest of the conglomerate. You can throw a couple of characters in there. Like Rainbow Dash being forced to follow orders, and fight against the leader of the one organizing the working class; Applejack. And having to choose whether betray the royal guard, or side with her friend.

RD forming a rebellious group. Starlight being trusted with an important secret. Unicorns slowly losing their magic. Bans on magic users. Alicorns and magically infused beings like Discord suddenly starting to age rapidly. There are glimpses of this conflict, like missing puzzle pieces being filled in a bigger picture that would eventually culminate in a new age.

Also, I bet there are actual historic references you can use in order to add further complexity and nuance to the conflict.

I think there would be little to no use for it. This is the same universe where they can write words on paper and it turns into a working magic spell. It would be little niche uses out of curiosity but not dominant.
