Your favorite gamecube games?

Ok so basically I was told that the gamecube I had when I was really little was tossed out a long time ago since it was broken.

But I found the family wii and it's the original release model that can natively play them.

I'm basically just looking for game recommendations since I have only vague memories of it.

So for anyone that has played on a gamecube, what's your favorite games on there?

Animal Crossing is my number one GC game. It was also the first game I ever had for the console. If you like any of the newer Animal Crossing games you’ll 100% enjoy the  OG GC one. It has a great art style to it that still looks good today, and I find the villagers are a lot more charming compared to the newer games. Downside is you’ll be missing a lot of the modern QoL features the modern games have.

There’s two Dragon Ball Z games I used to play the hell out of on GC, Budokai and Budokai 2. I still love both those games but I’m not sure how fun they’re going to be for folks who didn’t grow up playing them, as they have aged a fair bit.

The GameCube also has my personal favorite Mario Party and Mario Kart on it, those games being Mario Party 6 and Mario Kart Double Dash. For Double Dash, I will admit nostalgia plays a pretty big factor in why it’s my favorite, I do think Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is just a better overall game due to the variety. But Double Dash has a fun gimmick, and I think all the maps Double Dash has are quite good.

Need for Speed Underground 2, as well as Hot Pursuit 2 are both fantastic racing games from what I remember. I haven’t played them in a while so I’m unsure how well they hold up today, though the racing game genre as a whole is pretty rough these days so they can’t be that bad in comparison.

Battle for Bikini Bottom is an awesome SpongeBob game, but it’s also been remade for modern consoles so you might’ve played it already. It does have a sort of sequel game just called The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which is very similar gameplay wise. Little me never managed to actually complete it due to how difficult it was but I got to the second to last level at least.

Probably the console I've spent the most amount of time playing, not counting handhelds. One of my favourite games ever (for any console, not just gamecube) is Wind Waker, easily top 3. Others from the gambecube include: Mario Sunshine, Mario Strikers, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, Double Dash, Simpsons Hit and Run, Pokemon Colosseum, Mario Party 5&6, and Sonic Heroes. There might be a few others that I'm not remembering but it's easily one of my favourite consoles ever, and I'm super excited for the Switch 2 to add more to the virtual console in time

In my case, it's going to be the one game that didn't cause me to have some kind of temper tantrum. The only Gamecube game that fits this description is Wario World.

  • 4 weeks later...

The gamecube had a lot of bangers like sunshine and air ride. Though my all time favorite is still metroid prime, I even have the remaster on the switch. Retro studios absolutely nailed the theme and the suspense a metroid game should have. I can still remember feeling tense going through the pirate base the first time.

So many. Top favorite is probably Paper Mario and the THousand Year Door (I leveled up Mario so hard, unlocked all the recipes (by cheating with the user guide)), reached the pit several times and beat Bonetail, got all the tattles, etc.

Mario Sunshine was also very good. Melee, Starfox Assault, boy oh boy...

Ooooh loved that game. I played the demo and the full game itself. Grrr, can't believe that moron threw away ALL our games and wii (along with the memory card) my brother left at his house because we didn't use them for a while... so much progress, memorabilia, nostalgia... idiot.

Definitely the Animal Crossing for the GameCube! Some of the controls are a bit slow because of the hardware limitations back then but it's still a fun and charming game with plenty to do! The most fun thing is the codes because they've helped me to obtain Bells and some furniture I would've otherwise had to wait for.

Pokémon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness - Love the Orre region games, the atmosphere and music still feels so unique from other pokémon games.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 - Two of my favourite games of all time.

Mario Kart Double Dash - My second favourite Mario Kart Game and favourite racing game on the Gamecube.
