“Come on. Let’s find dry ground before she lands us in a pie cart." Dusk lights her horn and freezes the mud entirely, willing to accept disqualification if it makes @Nitobitpath a little smoother. To prevent making the race unfair, she left it there for other ponies who managed to escape the vines and darkness

"Hehe, I'll keep that in mind." Moonlight climbs onto the ice, and shakes mud off his legs, careful to not splatter it on Dusk. The ponies who chased him seem less eager to take away the cannon, seeing an alicorn next to it, but they gladly make use of the freshly created solid ground.

After the rope vanishes, Roswell heads in the directions of the other ponies voices while making sure he didn’t trip or fall.

 

As the ponies moved towards the richest part of the forest after leaving the darkness behind, Roswell saw the leaves over the other side of the bog, he said ‘finally, little leaves ready to get knocked down’.

 

But he knew it wouldn’t be easy to get there and he made his decision to take the long way around.

 

‘I’m going the long way because I’m sick and tired of mud and getting stuck’ he said to himself as he ran off down the long path around the bog.

 

As he continued running along the path, he noticed a group of ponies fighting it out over something, the closer he got and the more he noticed it was a cannon and a cannon that most likely belonged to Pinkie Pie.

 

Roswell thought to himself ‘If they’re fighting over it, it must be important……. that means I must take it’.

 

His speed increased faster and faster towards to the group and he yelled out ‘HAND OVER THAN CANNON!!!!’.

Dusk arched a brow as @TheRockARockster Roswell barreled toward them like a meteor with ambition. As @Nitobit Moonlight bolted, cannon in tow, and Roswell gave chase, Dusk stepped neatly aside to avoid the mud or ice spray from galloping hooves on the frozen path..

“I’m sure this will end with grace and dignity,” she added, mainly to the forest with a wry grin.

She gave the balloon overhead a long glance. “Pinkie Pie, if you don’t come down soon, there won’t be a cannon left to return.”

Moonlight smiles mischievously. "Well, who am I to deny a powerful alicorn her prize? You can have it." He moves the cannon towards her. However, when she gets closer, and reaches her hoof or starts enveloping it in her magic, he points it at her and shoots muddy blast point blank, knocking her back! The mud is soft and safe enough that it shouldn't hurt even a filly, but it should buy Moonlight a couple seconds.

"-if you can take it from me!" Moonlight doesn't wait to see is Dusk fell or managed to stay on her hooves. He just darts away. He knows he won't get too far, and prepares himself mentally for whatever happens next.

*Aware that things were about to become messy, Socrate grasped Moushley with his tiny claws and took off from ( @Nitobit ) Moonlight's back. He held her delicately, as if she was the most precious gem in Equestria, which wasn't wrong from his perspective. The fruit bat flew back with the the mouse to the balloon of @Pinkie Pie and @Starlight Glimmer.*

"Look at that, fillies and gentlecolts! It looks like Moonlight was able to recover the cupcake-inator! One of the few brave ponies to venture into the bog, but had to sacrifice his boots in the process! Thankfully, they didn't fall into the mud, but that would have been a tricky situation to maneuver in!" Starlight commentated, taking notice of the other participants looking ready to take the cupcake cannon. "Being surrounded on all side, it looks as if everypony is vying for that cannon, but Moonlight isn't giving up without a fight!" Starlight exclaimed, grinning slightly as she wondered how things would play out.

"What's this!? It looks like Moushley the mouse is trying to take the cannon, as well! She's either trying to join in on the fun, or she's trying to get it back for Pinkie!" She smiled fondly as she thought Moushley was being a kind and caring creature and friend. "Even though Moushley is trying to get the cannon, Moonlight is trying his best to help keep the little mouse safe. Moonlight made a breakaway through the bog, his hooves getting stuck in the process. That's not stopping his determination from keeping that cupcake cannon safe!" She says, taking notice of Dusk Haven, who was on Moonlight's tail. "Dusk has made it through the dense and dark part of the forest and made her way to the bog. It looks like all caution was thrown to the wind as she's on hot pursuit to catch Moonlight and the cannon!"

[Pinkie Pie 701]

"With incredible speed and agility, Moonlight is trudging his way through the bog, but what's this? Moonlight is slowing down due to having to pull his legs out with each step he takes!" Pinkie gasps, watching as the party cannon was being carried by any of the participants involved. "Oooooh~! That looked like it had to hurt with that mud ball! If only they had a way to make a mud pie with the cupcake-inator! Hmmm...I must make a mental note of that. Mud pies are always pretty tasty when baked to perfection!" Pinkie responded with a giggle just as Socrate dove from the balloon basket. "Socrate just took a dive bomb down into the fray and went to help Moushley and Moonlight! All the while, Shiny used magic to help protect Moonlight from the other racer's! Looks like teams are being decided in the middle of this incredible game of cupcake-inator keep away! Awww...now I want to join in on the fun! I've always heard monkey in the middle is a fun game to play."

Even with a shield, it didn't stop Dusk Haven from trying to overcome the defensive shield to try and get that cannon. "How about that, folks! From keeping her hooves from getting stuck by using magic to skate across like an ice rink, to teleporting in the shield. Dusk Haven is showing that she's going to be strong competition for the cupcake-inator! Even Moonlight looks to be psyched and accepting of a worthy challenger!" Pinkie commentated just as the shield Shiny created had begun to dissipate. 

[Starlight Glimmer 163]

"You can't forget about Samurai and the others! It looks like they are all trying to help Moonlight to carry the cupcake cannon. As for Dusk, it looks like she's about to show Moonlight the power of confetti. I wonder if she took lessons from you, Pinkie. You're always the pony I know that's known for confetti used in your trusty party cannon!" Starlight's gaze was glued onto the race, just as Moonlight was about to hand the cannon over to Dusk. "What's this!? Moonlight is giving the cannon willingly over to Dusk? What does this bat pony have up their sleeve?" She asks, before Moonlight retaliated with a blast of mud from the cannon. "That looks like a direct hit! It seems that Moonlight used the power of misdirection and cleverness in order to keep the cannon in his possession! What a tricky play, folks!" Starlight exclaimed, before feeling a sudden chill in the air. "Is it just me, or is there trouble ahoof at the moment?" She asks, a shiver running up and down her spine from hearing the tone in Dusk's voice. She remembered that same feeling after she had swapped Princess Celestia's and Princess Luna's cutie marks.

Starlight watched with baited breath as Moonlight apologized, before everything seemed to be okay with Dusk Haven. "It looks like everything has been resolved, but yet it looks like round two might start up once again! This time, the power of glitter to match and battle against the confetti!" Starlight exclaimed, breathing a sigh of relief as it looked like everything was back to normal. 

[Pinkie Pie 701]

"I'm right there with you, Starlight! My Pinkie sense was about to go off and I thought it was about to turn into a doozy." Pinkie says, feeling that sudden chill whenever a doozy was about to occur. Thankfully, it wasn't to be as the fun was set to continue. Just as Pinkie was about to take the cannon back from Moonlight, the pink party mare gasped in surprise as Moonlight was nearly tackled by Roswell, who caught up with the group! "Hold it right there, everypony! It looks like Roswell is joining in on the action and is trying to take the cupcake-inator! Not only that, but it looks like even Shiny is still involved! Jumping into the fray to block Roswell, while giving Moonlight time to escape! What an exhilarating portion of the race we've arrived at!" Pinkie grinned from ear to ear as she matched Starlight's level of enthusiasm in regards to commentating.

Dusk didn’t rush in. She watched the growing pile of ponies with a calm expression — like this sort of thing happened every autumn. When @Shiny Silvermoon Shiny shouted something about friendship, Dusk’s ear flicked.

She didn’t want to give @Nitobit Moonlight too much help. She didn't feel he would want it anyway. Batponies were typically independent folk, but she was fond of the spirited batpony. She paused, eyes scanning her surroundings, and smiled when she spotted a leaf hanging from a high, sleepy branch.

“Of course,” she murmured. “How poetic.”

Her horn lit with a soft violet glow as she gently nudged the leaf free. The wind caught it. It drifted.

Right as @TheRockARockster Roswell strained under @Shiny Silvermoon Shiny’s tackle, the leaf floated down and covered his eyes, blocking his vision — just for a moment.

It wasn’t much, but maybe enough. Moonlight was quick. He’d know what to do with even a breath of an opening.

“Good luck, Moonlight,” Dusk called casually. “Roswell looks to be a worthy opponent.”

Then, without waiting for the result, Dusk reared and galloped toward a massive tree. She struck it with both back hooves — and leaves rained down in showers. Her eyes caught @Samurai Equine in the distance ahead. She was already moving again to her next challenge.

Moushley was a bit surprised when Socrate picked her up and flew her away. She reaches for the cannon, not quite ready to go yet, but it's too late.
She becomes a little happier when she lands back in the basket; back where she wanted to be most! But she still failed...
Walking up to @Pinkie Pie, Moushley sadly lowers her head and squeaks out some words of regret. If only Pinkie could speak mouse, for then she would know...

The only thing Moushley can do is cartoonishly pull out a strawberry lollipop and offer it to Pinkie. It's small and pocket-sized, hardly worth much. But it's the best the little mouse can do.

Meanwhile, Samurai has allowed @Nitobit Moonlight to catch up, only to see him getting tackled by @TheRockARockster Roswell. Samurai was about to intervein, until he sees @Shiny Silvermoon Shiny join in the tackle, making it a dogpile. For once, Samurai isn't sure what to do. He turns to @Dusk Haven Dusk instead. "I am a pony of honor and justice. Action is what I do best, but there are times where discretion is the better part of valor. Wouldn't you agree?"

Taking a deep breath, Samurai gets between @TheRockARockster Roswell and @Nitobit as best he can. "Easy, you two! Easy! Now, let's be sensible here. Is any reward really worth this? Isn't friendship and doing the right thing the best reward? I've always been a follower of Princess Celestia, but she would want me to uphold the values of Princess Twilight as well. And in the words of Twilight herself, friendship is always more important than the competition. Wouldn't you all agree, gentlecolts?" Samurai smiles warmly and offers them a hoof in friendship, including @Shiny Silvermoon Shiny.

Roswell is able to force all of the ponies off of him as he looks around.

 

He stares at Moonlight and breathes heavily while also staring at Samurai, Shiny and Dusk.

 

‘You want it? take it’ and Roswell keeps moving forward.

Dusk nodded politely to @Samurai Equine Samurai in agreement, now realizing he wasn’t nearly as far ahead as she’d thought. She watched as he stepped in — of course he did. From what she’d seen, he was an honorable pony.

She had helped @Nitobit Moonlight as best she could without crossing into unfair play. Now it was up to the others to see who would come out on top.

With that, Dusk turned and trotted off into the distance to buck more trees. No sooner than she did, she heard @TheRockARockster Roswell lose interest in the cannon. She picked up her pace to get to more trees and maybe win the race.

[Roswell]

Roswell ran hard towards the trees as his ultimate goal was always to buck the trees and he felt foolish for allowing himself to get sidetracked by the cannon.

 

It was now tree bucking time and he was now focused solely on that and not letting anything distract him.

[Samurai Equine]

Samurai gives @Dusk Haven a nod before gently parting with the crowd.

He gives chase after @TheRockARockster Roswell. "Roswell-san, there is no need to go solo. I am willing to be your friend, if you want. I am quite proud of you for taking the peaceful route." Samurai says, wanting to make sure Roswell is okay.

Moonlight leans towards Samurai's ear, so that only he can hear. "Samurai, I'm glad you always try to do what's right, but when colts fight with wooden swords, it doesn't mean that they want to hurt each other."

Dusk hears thundering hooves coming from behind and moves from a trot to a gallop. A quarter mile down, she slowed and veered to the side, bucking a few trees. She moved gracefully from one tree to another and took off once more.

She didn't know what got to her, since she's not even participating to the race. However, it seemed that the stallion was already gone.*

"Don't worry, Moonlight ( @Nitobit ), I'll stick with you, until Pinkie Pie retrieves her cannon." *The unicorn then comforted the bat pony.*

Roswell looks at all of the ponies with the same emotionless face before a small smile formed.
