Is Prince Blueblood really a prince?

Unless he is divorced, Prince Blueblood does not seem to be committed to any relationship. It is thus doubtful that he personally married into the royal family, especially when Rarity referred to him as a bachelor and wanted to (in her fantasies) become his bride.

That Prince Blueblood may have been married into the family by his relatives is an interesting concept, however. Word of God (i.e., Lauren Faust) states that Prince Blueblood is a very distant relative of either Celestia or Luna, so he probably has some sort of hereditary connection to the royal family. But it is not uncommon for large ruling families to marry into one another; Blueblood may therefore be a product of such a marriage.

He doesn't deserve to be, that's what I know.

He doesn't deserve to be a prince. Anypony who treats Rarity that way isn't allowed to be anything significant with their lives.

"You, sir, are the most un- charming prince I have ever met. In fact, the only thing royal about you is that you are a ROYAL PAIN!"

I'm with Rarity on this. Word of Faust says he's related, so that's a given, but he is nonetheless a prince in name only.

And nopony treats Rarity like that and gets away with it.

It seems weird that he's called a prince and related to Celestia, but if he really is royalty then what is he the prince of?

Originally, Prince Blueblood was supposed to be called, "Duke", so I'm going with that. He's not really related to Celestia and Luna and only became Prince due to hundreds of years of nobility. But if we ARE going with the fact that he's somehow related to the Royal Family, it raises some questions about the lineage...and Cadence...ARE THEY SIBLINGS?!

Honestly now with the introduction of Cadence, that opens up the door for a whole giant royal family. Who knows how many random relatives they are hiding up in that castle or elsewhere in Equestria or beyond?

He's part of the aristocracy, and he was almost named "Duke", which would've been better.

Indeed, like Blue said he could have been both (which I think cannon he almost was, but they thought kids wouldn't konw what a duke is), a prince has very little true power, whereas a duke has actually a pretty considerable amount of power.

It may also be that only girls can be alicorns. There is precedent(although that would be unfortunate).

What about Feld0? Your argument is invalid.

"Lauren Faust stated that Celestia's nephew had no name in the show (before The Best Night Ever aired), and that he's the "great great great great great great great great great great great (and probably even more greats) nephew on Celestia's and Luna's mother's side, about 52 times removed, roughly speaking." He was originally a Duke but was changed to a Prince per Hasbro's request."~MLP Wiki

He is distantly related to Celestia and Luna, but Duke does fit better, and no, he doesn't deserve to be a prince.

We believe that Prince Blueblood is the nephew of Princess Celestia. Why he has a title of the Prince nobody knows.

What I want to know is that who is the parents of Prince Blueblood because it would seem that Princess Celestia has another sister besides Princess Luna.

In fact, the mystery behind Princess Celestia's family is completely unknown.

We hope season 3 would give some output on this.

to be a prince he would either have to share blood relation with Celestia being a distante relative (considering celestia is over 1000 years old and other alacorns maybe the case ) or be a prince in a different land which isnt likely, my guess is he's nobility so he's a lord not a prince

I've read that Prince Blueblood was meant to be a Duke, which in real life is "a nobleman holding the highest heredity outside the royal family." I actually was aware there was a difference between a Duke and a Prince from watching from Disney's 1950 animated film, Cinderella.

On a side note, the Grand Duke had more screen time than Cinderella's Prince in that film because the animators back in 1950 were still not experienced to animate human males in a realistic way; they were still better at animating males in a goofy way. They intended the Prince to be realistic is his movements, but the animators weren't ready. That's why the Prince didn't have much screen time like he should and the King and Grand Duke had more scenes of goofiness. It's also why we had to wait until 2006 for the direct-to-DVD sequel, A Twist in Time, where the Prince ACTUALLY does something to get back to Cinderella, instead of having someone else do it.

Back to the topic: I've convinced that Blueblood really was meant to be a Duke, because then Rarity's fantasy of marrying him would have been more believable. I still believe that Twilight's brother could marry Princess Candance, but that's besides the point.

Also I don't mind that Blueblood's behaviour at the Gala has been interpreted by some as him recognizing Rarity's intentions, and was screwing with her because he's met countless other mares with the same vapid dream and he's not willing to play the part.

If he does come back into the spotlight, I hope he had took a level in kindness.
