I am somewhat surprised this was moved to the feedback section. I though that it was just something for us to laugh at...this is good still. Maybe we can get some ACTUAL pony merchandise in the adds

I moved this thread to feedback and blocked both selectbreeders.com and broadstoneequine.com from advertising on my network. Those don't look like the kinds of ads MLP Forums should be running, especially the first one.

At least it's better than that one time those filthy ads linked me to a man-horse-love site

If you see any ads that unsettle you (or that have no business showing up on an MLP forum community), please let me know and I'd be more than happy to make sure they never appear on MLP Forums again.

But anyway, thanks for that. It would be nice to have Real MLP ads.

Aren't the adsense ads based off your browsing history?

Sort of. AdSense ads are based on several factors. Two of them are:

  • the content on the page/website that you are seeing the ads on
  • the content of pages/websites that you have visited before which also display AdSense ads
Google doesn't have access to your browser's browsing history, so the AdSense system relies to a great degree on tracking which other sites you have seen AdSense advertising on. This often has the effect of the same ad "following" you from site to site (there's an ad from a certain hosting company that I see everywhere after reading about them on WebHostingTalk, for example :P).

There's also Google Magic involved, but you get that with everything Google does.

I have never seen ads like that, but then again I don't think I have anything related to that in my search history either...

If that's the case, some people among us have some explainin' to do!

I know, to be honest I don't keep a browsing history at all! :P

The thing is with these Ad word detector things, is that the person setting up the list can make it so that just having a browsing history with the words "pony, equine, horse, philly, colt, stallion, etc." will bring up their Ad.

*facehoof*

I'm tired, words starting to blend together. >_>

Also I wouldn't put it past Google to do it anyway. *paranoid glance*

I'd say these ads are...interesting.

Now that I've turned ads on, I don't see anything wrong like that. I also don't see things I'd want to buy...Maybe you should try to get them to display MLP merchandise ads or something? *shrug* I dunno. Just a suggestion. :P

Google uses you IP address and the sites it access/searches for to target what ads you get. In this case, it connected ponies, with horse breading. An odd connection, but totally legit by search perimeters.

My current adds seem to be connected to scholarship searches I just did. Both are for donating to different organizations. Doctors without boarders, and a donate your care to the veterans (which does not look legit).
