Whitch art programs are good to use for pony art?

In starting my OCs story i cant really make the world i put him in, or make other pix of them. Now i know it all starts with the artist but every good artist needs their tools, and paint shop is not doing it for me. Im looking into getting photoshop or art explosion to make it look like my OC was in the show or in the real world. So if you bros/sis have any tips on what to use let me know. Plz and thx

A friend of mine uses Paint tool SAI.

He's really good at what he's doing so that's the program i would suggest.

If you have a tablet I would recommend using paint tool SAI. I use it and so do a bunch of other artists.

Don't expect to draw on the computer without a tablet. There really is no true work around. The only computer art you can do completely without a tablet is vector art and pixel art. For pixel art, anything will work.

 

For pixel art you can use MS paint or Paint.net if you want something more advanced.

 

For vector art I would recommend Adobe Illustrator. Inkscape is a free vector program, but using it is akin to stabbing your eyes wit scissors.

 

When you get a tablet I would recommend Paint Tool SAI or Photoshop.

I don't normally do pony fanart

 

But when I do I use PAINT.net

(I recommend but do not support it.. The program itself. A bit over complicated to me)

If you ask me though, the first sprites I ever made were very small-scale. Only VERY recently, like a couple of months ago, I started attempting pieces in excess of 100x100 pixels big. Besides, I believe that small scale is what beginner pixel artists should try out anyways, and it can surely build confidence for larger works that demands a lot more micromanagement with pixels.
