I will start off by saying that this should go in the life advice section, but alas I am not a cupcake so I can't post there. Sorry mods!

I am wondering if anyone on here has immigrated to the United States, and could give me personal experience with such. I'd like to know every piece of information, because as much as Google can tell me, it can't tell me everything I need to know. I am a little Canadian girl who is moving to the states before Halloween. I will be moving to New York, we were hoping that I could move next year but I need to be out of the place I live by the end of October, that was thrown on my shoulders about an hour ago >.<. I already have a place to live down there thankfully, and I know what I need to ship and sell. I'm really stressed out right now. Excited, but still stressed.

Is it possible to immigrate in 3 months? How much of a shit storm am I getting myself into?

Are you Christian or Muslim? I've never been to the US (except Montana, which is basically Canada South) so I'm unsure as to what life will be like in New York.

New York comes with different flavours. Upstate New York is a beautiful country-side with many lush forests and great lakes filled with easy going people. When you get closer to New Jersey or any Long Island suburb, you will find many people living in that area are 'narrow' minded people who thinks they are the most open people in the world but doesn't realize how much of a snob they are. Then there's NYC, city full of paranoia driven people.

I'm moving upstate (I think) All I know is that I'm moving to a suburb in Schenectady (if it wasn't for spell check I wouldn't be able to spell that right)

My Grandfather from my Dad's side of the family was German and was adopted by American parents after WWI, I have never emigrated from a country.

I haven't crossed the US/Canada border recently, but I used to do it all the time. You shouldn't have any problems getting through, and you might be able to do all of the paperwork from the US side once you get to New York. It might be easiest to start out with a work visa, which will allow you to legally work and earn income without being a citizen. The immigration process itself probably cannot be done in 3 months. My impression is that it's more like 3 years. Still, a visa will allow you to live comfortably, go to school, work, etc. while you determine if/when you want to do anything about citizenship.

I have friends who live close to Schenectady. I've been there multiple times. It's a very quiet and calm place, there isn't much to do, but the scenery is really beautiful (especially in Autumn). They get a lot of snow, which shouldn't be a problem since you're from Canada . Canada and the US have a really close relationship, so other than the teasing, you'll get along fine with people. Best of Luck with moving and welcome to the US! :D

Yes! I love the snow! And I plan to deal with the teasing so I plan to troll them with Canadian stereotypes. I had a polar bear for a brother, and I drove a dog sled, shit like that. I don't mind not having much to do, I'm a hermit anyway.
