Bioware deals with pony hatred.

So I'm not a Mass Effect fan... I don't even play it for that matter.

But what I don't understand is that people will ragequit because of one pony post. Yeah, sure, they can see MLP:FiM as a show for little girls, but don't hate until you've tried it.

 

Wait... maybe all of the people who wrote those negative comments listen to Howard Stern... that would explain a lot.

Sorry, I probably should have said "anyone" rather than "we". I don't see any other reason to complain.

 

Why should anyone care? They made several mistakes in Mass Effect 3, and that was a product you had to buy. This is something they made for free. Priorities, everypony.

I have been a Mass Effect fan since 2007. I don't know if you guys heard about the negative hype over the ending of ME3, but it really broke the heart of the fanbase. We are still butt hurt about the ending, even though Bioware tried to "fix" it. Because of this, a lot of us are sensitive to perceived "jabs" made at the series or the fanbase.

 

If you haven't played ME yet, let me recommend something. If you like story, start playing in ME1 through ME2. If you like action, start with ME2 through ME3. If you like action and story, play the whole series and turn off ME3 right before the ending. Also, try to buy the games used.

I'll explain how it was so bad without spoiling it.

 

Imagine having the best three course meal of your life. You love food. The chef preparing your meal was awarded worldwide chef of the year back in 2010. Your first course, the appetizer, was something you never seen before, it looked kinda weird. But when you took a bite, it was very tasty and you ate the whole thing in a matter of moments. By the time you were done, you wanted more and were looking forward to the next course.

 

After waiting a while (because good food takes a while to perfect), you get the main course. It looks and smells a little bit more familiar, but it still had similarities to the appetizer. You take a bite and you are in flavor country. You never tasted something so satisfying and worth-while, you decide it's your favorite food you have ever eaten.

 

Next, dessert gets prepared. The chef's waiters display the dish you will be having on a picture, and your mouth starts watering and salivating. Since you were so enamored with the previous two courses, you had no doubt this dish would be just as good or even better. When the dessert comes, it tastes the best of all three courses. "Oh my..." you say to yourself. The taste is better than the flavor country you previously experienced. It was a party in your mouth.

 

Once you are done with the meal however, you get a VERY weird aftertaste. You call over the chef to ask what the aftertaste was. The chef explains that he licked, spit, pee-ed, and defecated on every single plate you ate off of. In the dessert you just finished, he put a foul chemical that would be forever burned in your palate as an aftertaste. All other food tastes less satisfying. When you think of all the amazing food you ate that meal, you can't think of sweet taste the same way you were when you were experiencing it.

Each course is one of the Mass effect games. After experiencing the amazing story of Mass effect, the ending of ME3 ruins every epic experience you had during the series. If you loved the series as much as I did, other video games are a little bit more gray for a few months after. You can't look back at the story without looking through a filthy lens.

I dont understand How a photo containing Pinkie Pie could make people hate such a great series like Mass Effect. I think people are just using it as an excuse because they hated the ending. But if this ONE PHOTO is a legitament reason to hate Mass Effect then I guess by that logic every time a parody of anything is created a series is ruined and if thats the case then I guess no videogames are fun because they all have fan art / parodies.

People were angry for multiple reasons but mostly ignorant ones. For example some never played the other games and never payed attention to the story to the point in whcih by the time the ending came along they didnt know what was going on. Another common reason was because people did not think it was the right way to end it. The problem with that is that Mass Effect doesnt belong to them so it they arent exactly in the right place to decide how somebody elses story should end.

On topic: I wish they'd post another pony picture just to really mess with people before going back to posting their regular fan art stuff.

I can't say much on BioWare in terms of their games (I lack a gaming computer and I don't really have the interest in PC gaming to justify getting one) but as a company I give them kudos for their handling of the frothing-at-the-mouth reactions. BioWare's response was very mature and got the "stop overreacting" message across without being insulting.

After spending hundreds of hours on the games, reading every single novel and comic, playing all the side games, purchasing every DLC and spending even more hours on the forums, you would be too. Although I have gotten over it, whenever I recall the ending in my mind, I always get this sick feeling in my stomach. Luckily, I have been able to block that thought unless I'm talking about it.
