Should SpikeXRarity be canon based on Secret of My Excess?

Nah Sparity should not be anymore canon than it really is.

AKA all of it being canon through a one sided childhood age crush that Spike has on Rarity and nothing on her end except deep friendship.

Plus Rarity is an adult and Spike is a child so....

NO WAY! Rarity haters would love for her to be confirmed a stupid pedophile. She would be removed from the show. Spike is a baby dragon, and the events of the season 4 premier is only one year after the pilot episode meaning Spoke is still a baby oor a little child. Call Rarity a bitch, jerk, whatever, but wanting her to be a pedophile is just wrong. Spike is not an adult! Sparity is not canon! Spike has a crush on Rarity. She sees him as a friend. In Inspiration Manifestation, she calls him a friend. If the genders were refereed, if Elusive kissed Barbara, it wouldn't be so cute, would it? Sparity is not canon. Unless it's canon that Rarity is a pedophile. If it is canon, I no longer love Rarity. I would actually want her removed from the show. A pedophile should not be a major character in a kid's show! It's just child having a crush on an adult, nothing more!

I think Rarity would prefer a stallion of her age, not a baby dragon.

But actually, what bothers me isn't the age and race difference, but that Rarity's personality and style don't go with Spike at all.

Canon? That dreaded scene of the skyfall of that same episode has an insane ammount of double sense.

The scene already gives the feeling about Rarity knowing what Spike felt all along, and the silence was a powerful factor there. She doesn't like like Spike, but she appreciates his presence and considers him a friend, and a good one actually.

 

Also, other factors affect this, like the non-knownledge of how interracial relationships are seen on Equestria, along withe their BIG age difference (Rarity is a full grown mare, easily surpassing her 20s, while spike grows up more slowly and is still on a baby status on the dragon scale,which doesn't help)

 

In sum, Rarity x Spike isn't only not a good pairing, but it will never be canonically accepted and much less will be shown to be something anywhere else.

Also ironic that nothing about Sparity have changed. It's been a whole year in FiM timeline and Spike still didn't got over that crush while Rarity is till take advantage of it.

Age difference and interspecies is not a problem. Flash/Twilight and Fluttercord will not be a rpoblem for Hasbro. They already break that taboo in comics and EQuestria Girls. Sparity is only a blocked concept because Child/Adult relationship implications. Until Spike is portrayed as a kid who sleep with plushies and read comics, he will never going to be treated as an equal partner for Rarity in writers eyes.

It's not quite that simple. In Look Before You Sleep, Spike is said to be away in Canterlot on royal business. In many episodes, including Just for Sidekicks and The Cutie Map, Twilight goes away overnight, trusting him to look after himself. He has a job as an assistant librarian, and generally seems to perform it well. In many ways, he's treated as an adult, or at least as an older teen.

 

Dragons seem to live for thousands of years, so it's quite possible that he might remain a "baby" in terms of dragon physiology until he's hundreds of years old. But that doesn't mean that he won't mentally and emotionally mature a lot faster than that — probably at the same rate as ponies do because he is so absorbed in their culture.

 

How long has he been alive? Well, he was hatched by Twilight in the process of getting her cutie mark. Let's say Twilight was about 10 when that happened because I tend to imagine that the CMCs are about 12, and are "late bloomers". Now Twilight is a young adult, say, 20-25 years old, which puts Spike at around 10-15 years old. Because of how he is treated as a mostly mature and responsible character, I'd put him at the top end of that, around 15 years old, perhaps slightly older if Twilight (who, let's face it, is prodigious) was younger than 10 when she got her cutie mark.

 

This wouldn't make Rarity a paedophile — more like an ephebophile, or at worst a hebephile.

Rarity clearly does love Spike, perhaps as much as Twilight does. She's just not in love with him, or at least does not appear to be.

 

Now, with that all having been said, I don't think Spike x Rarity should be canon — not because I have a problem with that ship in particular, but because I don't think any of the mane 6 should be paired off in the show. As much as I adore pony shipping in fan works, that's not what the show itself is about.
