Well, going back to your post about it's the parents fault. I know some parents who do wish to control whats on the computers. I also know parents who could care less. I think it can be the parents fault if no action is taken.

 

Yea, for the parents that actually care, this is a good idea. But we're talking about the small kids who go look up anything they want on the internet cuz their parents don't monitor any of it.

Yeah, I think I understand. I really can't stand parents who don't actually raise their kids with any internet values whatsoever. Making that kid a perverted bully who thinks more about porn then he does about his family and friends.

I think it's really sad. I've heard of so many kids these days not even being interested in toys... Whereas I spent countless hours playing as a kid.

 

I think parents, media, and peers are all to blame. Parents don't restrict their kids, and media puts out things for mature audiences with no way of keeping it from children. But peer pressure is a huge factor too - if you don't like the adult things other kids like, you won't be popular. I experienced that a lot in elementary and middle school. I was never into fashion or MTV or BET or anything else everyone was into. And I'm glad now that I was sheltered from it by both my parents and my own naivete (I have mild Asperger's, which is probably why I was as immune to everything as I was), because, while I basically grew up alone, my childhood was full of so many magical things that others probably didn't experience. It's truly a sad thought that children now are even worse about everything than my generation was.

I know! Kids have lost their imagination. I never see kids playing make believe on the playground anymore. (I visit the elementary school often because my mom subs there.) I just see kids talking to each other and really not running around at all.

It's all about how cool you are nowadays, it's quiet a disappointing scene. When I was little it was more about fun, now... it's just sad.

You know guys, before... let's say... 150 years ago, kids were already deep in the reality of the world at a young age. The whole "protect their innocence" is fairly new. I personnaly think it's better to have a kid who KNOWS that shit is hitting the fan every second in this world than having a clueless one who thinks that everything in his perfect pink and retarded world is going to be fine.

 

My parents never told me about the lies type Santa or Easter Bunny and I was as fine as the other kids. In fact, I think it made me much more aware of the lies adults can use on you when you are a kid, and helped me stay away from religion and all that crap.

Well, there is a difference between knowing it's there and worrying about it. A kid can hear about murder and stuff while still remaining "innocent". The difference is that he is already prepared and can let the notion of murder, rape, etc. mature as he grows up instead of everything hitting him in the face at 10-12 years old with a big "hey sorry kid, the world is not pink... in fact, you are boned! Have a nice day!"

 

Knowing that murder exists didn't kept me from hoping I could go super sayen when I was 8...

 

My point is, it's not the fact of kids knowing stuff, it's how they "assimilate" it that makes the problem. I don't want to risk my child to be an ignorant just because I don't have the courage to sit next to him and explain to him what is going on and why things are how they are. If second grades are talking about pussies and guns, it's not because they are growing too fast, it's because their parents don't give a shit about them.

I am with you all the way on this. Im a child of the early 1990's (92) and i have seen how things have changed over the years. I mean sure there were"those kids" when i was little as well but it was never like this. Back then if you knew about sex, drugs, alcohol and all that other stuff you most likely saw it on something you should not have been watching. But now in days its just out there and no one gives two craps about. I would say blame the media but the fault also lies with the parents as well. I think we need more of the good old fashion big mammas that taught their kids respect and how to act. Instead of all these parents that are trying to be friends with their kids or fear their kids because they know how to use a phone.

born in 98 i ended up seeing and learning a lot of things kids should not know where i live meth is a popular drug and i have been offered it and weed many times and denied it when i was 10 are neighbor had his house raided because he had a meth lab in it one day when my wasn't home when i was 11 i was on newgrounds and found 18+ content and was freaked out not knowing what it was (some porn game) the next day i told my friend and he told what it was. i was still freaked out about it till i was 12. not only that girls my age all of them are whores there where 3 pregnant scares in my grade last year i was in 8th grade! A guy was even got motorboating his gf in the school bathroom during one of the classes

I am 13 and watch MA shows (Not Horror movies though) and I agree but I suggest by how mature you are to watch it, I was 12 to be able to watch South Park cause my mom thought I was mature enough and I would not do what most teenagers do stuff from it...

i was home alone one day and was on newgrounds and i was looking at the most popular games that day one was called meet'n'fuck or something like that i clicked it thinking it was some funny game (not knowing what fuck really meant) i said i was over 18 cause i thought the warning was there for language or blood. i started playing it and thought it was a dating sim. You got more guts for being able to say it and recognize that there is a problem. And if this is your bio-mother she could learn a lesson from you. I disagree. I don't get the whole growing up too fast thing. Just because something we believe to be "mature" is shown to kids doesn't mean it's bad for them. I mean, what's with this desire to delude kids into thinking that the world is a fantastic place?

 

Why would you want to do that? How does it help them? They don't need a fantasy world to be happy. They should be able to find happiness in the fucked up world that they live in. I mean, how else are they going to survive their years as an adult? Hell, even a teenager? I've seen my family getting abused by my dad, since I was 6. And I'm fine.

 

And about innocence, why is everyone so quick to defend a child's lack of knowledge (because that's why it is). Why does everyone want to keep a kid dumb till he is "old enough". It's stupid. Just stupid.

 

I mean, I think I've seen porn when I was like 10. And there is some really weird stuff there. I don't know if others are like me, but I've turned out pretty fine.

 

So let kids watch anything they want. They're kids. Educate them before their teenage years. It helped me survive them at least.
