Equestria online: a vision shattered.

If anypony saw the Equestria online website, then you know what I'm talking about. If not, I'll explain.

Equestria online was a project being worked on by a group of bronies for bronies as an interactive online world to explore Equestria. You could create your own pony, type (pegasi, earth, unicorn) color, mane, and meet other ponies in familiar places like Canterlot or ponyville. Now how awsome is that? It's not exactly the equestrian portal, but it's every bronies dream! Right?

And then, this happens:

What is your opinions on this? Do you think it would've succeeded?

I was originally sad about this :( until I found out about the virtual Equestria in the game Second Life and play that all the time for pony stuff :P it's pretty cool really and you can create your own pony except you need to buy manes and stuff and when you first join it's a bit difficult to understand in the start unless you have a friend to help you along like I did

I have two opinions on this.

On one hand, I'm glad because I think a MMORPG game for MLP would be dumb. The RPG MLP game I invision would be similar to Animal Crossing (minus the BS) and Skyrim... if you can imagine that combination. Instead of a game where hundreds can log in and stuff, everyone can gave their own "equestria" and play singleplayer the way they want. There would be multiplayer, you can invite 7 other friends to visit your Equestria. Maybe you could share your Equestria with friends you trust.

Anyone else like this idea? I'm just kinda sick of all the MMO's out there, I just think a limited multiplayer game would be fine.

My second opinion is I'm kinda sad that all that work and division among the developers happened. The bronies are supposed to be united, so I feel sorry for the guy who started it.

Wow, the team leaders in each department must of been complete douches. Yes, it's only fair that because RainDrop put him in charge in the first place, he could also remove that same responsibility. I guess the others didn't see if from his point of view.

All in all, this is kind of sad and depressing. a project like this had so much potential, but I guess...

I can't say I'm really upset since I wasn't even looking forward to the game. (I'll explain why some other time) But I do feel sorry for the creator since it sounded like he really didn't have a very contributing and nice team, and I understand that life gets in the way of plenty of things.

I have no opinion on the game itself, but if it continues, well... that's good.

oh...well, uh, thanks.....ScootaBelle???

but im glad that the project is up again. I can see a pretty good future for the project if the team doesnt break up again.

Eeyup, and it's looking better than ever. I mean, just look at this new trailer they released a few weeks ago.

The Everfree Forest simply looks amazing

Didn't this happen months ago?

I know I've heard about this already, and that most of the developers moved over to another project.

I don't think I am to upset about it. It looked cool and all, but it just seemed like a game where all your doing is looking around Ponyville, flying, and using magic. There didn't look like their was much to do besides that. Now it could be that I did not look at a lot of info and maybe their was going to be more to it. I don't know.

Volunteers? More like snitches who wanted all the credit from what I've just read. How could they do that? He's the creator, the guy who came up with the idea and the Volunteers want him out?

EDIT: Well, I guess it's okay. Maybe he can recruit a new team which is much more efficient when he has the time.

Hey, former developer of Equestria Online and now a developer of Legends of Equestria.

What the OP forgot to post was our reply about this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WI01lDh8ZLmh5VDdw2YPjjs1y8ui88KaQjBpjK5h5iI/edit?pli=1

We never wished this would happened, we tried to solve everything before the split. Equestria Online is unfortunately shutdown by RainDrop. He redirect people on the Facebook to keep track of us (Legends of Equestria).

The vision isn't dead, the MMO is still being developed. We aren't going anywhere but to Alpha, Beta and Release!

I'm sorry to say, but this is something I see all the time with fan projects. Teams break up, plans fall through, money becomes an issue, they run into copyright stuff, there are so many things that stop projects cold. It's for this reason that we typically only see 1 out of every 10 projects get finished.

The only consolation I can give is that there are alot of FiM-based projects out there. So sooner or later, we will see a big project that gets finished.

And I'm glad to hear that you're still working on the project in some way, shape or form.

Oh, it was just RainDrop more or less that was left. The full rest of the team went to Legends of Equestria. So it was business essual.

Then again, these are old news. The split happend in March.

Next time we appear, it's at Canterlot Gardens if someone is going there.

*sigh*

See? That's what happens when leaders decide it's a good idea to give command to somebody else, go on hiatus and then come back and ask for leading again.

Your own people turn against you and everything falls apart.

I know how it is. Happened in my clan once, and the guy was forced to step down and leave the other guy commanding.

Aw, it's too bad about the split up, but that's usually how group projects end up shutting down. Unfortunately, keeping an ambitious project like that going is quite difficult with finances and team member issues.

I didn't know about this, must of missed it somewhere. I knew that the project was continued for a while now but didn't know why it all happened. I see this as only fair for everyone on the team, and the creator being stubborn wanting his way or no way, so in the end he got nothing. I congratulate you and the team on the professionalism of handling such a issue as it never an easy one. I can see on the website it's a long road to even alpha so I wish you all the best in getting there and beyond.

If this was the game where it was 2d with an isometric view and they released a demo a few months ago, I'm not too terribly heart broken. Sure, it sucks that a lot of work went into making it after one year and now that the team broke apart there probably won't be any more development, but the demo I played needed a lot of work done to it and with what I just read about the team I honestly get a feeling that most of that work wouldn't have ever been done. Maybe now the guy can get a new team together; maybe one that will listen to him more so than the last.

The game your talking about is MLP Online. This was known as Equestria Online and is now Legends of Equestria. I can understand getting them confused if you don't know them all that well, as they have similar names.

And by the way, the reason it was so buggy because it was and still is a beta, and was the first release too. Personally I think they shouldn't have released it is early as they did as there's still a lot to do but their contently patching it, fixing bugs and making improvements. I played it not too long after it got released and thanks to your post it's reminded me of of the game which I am now going to try playing again. Also, the beta was only released almost exactly two month ago now while as one of the devs said a couple of posts above, the split happened back in March.
