Best fanfics for beginner

I have never read a fanfic before so I was wondering what do you guys think is the best My Little Pony fan fiction for me to read? Are there any classics are must reads?

Not a whole lot of them are really legendary in the fandom, and quite a few for terrible reasons, like SAM or Cupcakes. Fallout Equestria is very well known, but I very highly suggest against reading it, as it is 2048 pages and it gets boring really, really fast.

That fanfic makes me want to rant.

 

At least Cupcakes helped spawn Silent Ponyville, and Cheerilee's Garden had legitimately good psychological horror. SAM is nothing but a horrid mess.

A very interesting story is "Inner Demons" by SapphireLibre, it's a very good read and I enjoyed it! It's a little long about 26 chapters or so, but worth it!

I'd also suggest The Vagabond series, the Pony Psychology series, Spark, Kindness Is It's Own Reward, and Spiderses.

I have just read Sweet Apple Massacre....I have just read Rainbow Factory.....I have just read Cupcakes again......I don't.....understand....why someone would write this.WHY?!?!Some people are just dirty and dark, just plain dark.Don't read these, I'm not going to say "Not for kids" or "Be careful reading" JUST DON'T READ THESE!!!!These aren't for people 18+. Just for people that like grimdark stuff.

if you're looking for a 'newcomer-to-equestria' type fanfic you could give 'memory pending' by kiroberos a try, i found it's 17 chapters to be engaging to say the least. heck it even lets you choose your own ending.

The first I read was cupcakes, and I have to say, it's not a compelling story, but it's not as gory as people will tell you. Aside from that, in my opinion, Anthropology is a good one. You have to have seen the shows and heard of the named background ponies, but I assure you that it is one of the best fics I've read. Period.

Anyways, I'm kinda a beginner myself when it comes to reading fanfics, I haven't read many myself really. I've mostly just read some random ones on FIMFiction that I found and thought where kinda good sounding.

 

If you want you can read stuff like My Little Dashie, its not a bad fanfic, and it'll probably make most people cry depending on your amount of emotions you normally experience I suppose. However theres plenty of other fanfics.

 

Really it all depends on what interests you, i'd try going on FIMFiction and looking in a search for your favorite characters and genre's and stuff, thats what I do as a bit of a novice for them myself, I've only read a few but I've found the ones I've read pretty good.

 

Its all relevant to what you like, just make sure you check the tags and such so you don't run into anything you don't want to read.

I actually enjoy by reading Antrophology and Past Sins the most over other fictions. While for first one you have to know something about Lyra - Past sins... it is just gooood.

Fanfiction "Spark" made me cry by the end, however i will not recomend it for newcomer.

If you up to some sad short stories, "Make a wish" one of my favorite.

If you would like to laugh, there is "On a Cross and Arrow". There is also good one - "My little alicorn", although both of them fairly long.

 

But, really, i suggest Past Sins as start of reading fanfictions.

I read it and didn't cry, I think it only really affects you if your a Dashite (thats the term I'm stealing from Fallout Equestria for RD fans). It is extremely sad though.

Just read what Dreamwalker posted, these are WAY better and funny.

Sometimes people just write dark stuff just to be dark. But I'm a fan of dark stuff as long as it is used effectly like the Silent Ponyville series I really do enjoy. Fairly decent length but nothing Fallout Equestria and its side stories length. But I would also suggest Fallout Equestria if you like the Fallout series since it does have a lot of good references and homages to alot of moments in the games.

 

MLD Is sad and did make my cry on my first read through, but it does it well with making you symathetic to the main character of the story and his growth as a person in the end and just all the more heartwrenching with the ending. Sappy? Maybe on some level, but it is effective at sucking you in when you give it an honest chance.

Fallout Equestria is amazing, just because its long doesnt make it bad, Its probably the second best Fanfic i have read, and the first is Fallout Equestria Project Horizons.

Its great and has a good plot, its long but only because it goes into detail about everything so you can get a feel for the universe that its based in. it does take a while to read each chapter though, but its completely worth it.

 

Oh and i cant really recommend anything because it depends on your taste of writing, i mainly read Ship fics because that's what i enjoy more, but yeah i wouldn't start off with any gore fics or anything long like Fallout Equestria. the first thing i read was my little Dashie, and its what got me into fan fics.

I have read a few fanfics, i tried reading Fallout Equestria.. What i had read was really good and i will probably one day finish reading it.. But it was simply too long, that's not bad.. But when your just starting to read a fanfic it just gets overwhelming.

 

I would advise people to just check out the fimfiction page, there are stories being featured also on blogs like EQD. If you see one that you find interesting just go for it..

 

A few i would recommend are "my little dashie", most people would recommend it, it's short only around 12000 words.. For a slow reader that's about 1 hour and 30 minutes. It's a good story and most people don't get disappointed after reading it. It's sad, although it depends whether you can relate to it or not.. For those who do relate it is a really sad story. Read this story.

 

Another short one, that was interesting, a little sad.. Not as sad as "my little dashie" but it's shorter. It's name is Family and friends. Would recommend for those who want to begin with something simple yet a good story. Read this story.

 

If you simply want to be able to say that you have read a fanfic, then "Dinky's first kill" is the right one for you.. It's only 3648 words. A quickly read but adorable and well written story. Read this story.

 

For you who are looking for a little longer fanfics to read, i would recommend "Tanks for the memories". It's a well done story, it's not finished.. But it's really good, it's fast paced. A really interesting story, especially if you like tanks. Read this story.

 

These are probably not the best fanfics for beginners, but there is no "best fanfic" for beginners.. You just have to give a fanfic a chance. First one i read was "The Nigthmare". Read this story.

It was a good story, i liked it.. It was also rather short. I just saw it featured on EQD and gave it a chance.. That's just how it works, if you find it interesting, then go for it.

I am not a "Dashite," assuming I understand what you mean by that.  Rainbow Dash has always been my least favorite of the mane six.  However, I listened to a dramatic reading of "My Little Dashie" on YouTube and cried hysterically.  Later, I read a comic book version and cried hysterically again.  I am one to be moved to tears fairly easily, so something like that has a big impact on me.  And I still love Rainbow Dash, even though she is my least favorite.
