Is Fluttershy overrated?

I think all the characters can be considered overrated in one way or another, so I just enjoy them all! Futtershy is my favorite though, because she is beyond cute, and I can completely relate to her extreme shyness and social anxiety. She is basically a copy and paste of me in that regard, except I tend to get angry a bit quicker. Long live Shy Fluttering!

First of all, I don't really mind that lots of people prefer Fluttershy as best pony. I don't blame 'em! :3 She's so cute, and kind. Her natural cuteness and charm is what makes us Bronies happy! Rainbow Dash is a close second.

 

I mean, when you see Fluttershy, doesn't your mouth feel like yelling out 'SQUEE!' or something? Mine does. All of the mane six how their own charm, and Fluttershy's apparently is her cuteness and kindness. Each of the mane six has their own form of adorableness, it's just that Fluttershy's is the easiest to see.

 

Meh, why is there even a 'best pony'? Their all so adorable and fun! However, I agree, and I hope Fluttershy's character gets more development! I'm sure that she can become a great pony besides having her cuteness.

Flutteryshy is a boring character in my opinion. She's always painfully shy to the point where even talking to her own friends or confessing up to something with them is a painful experience and that's something I find very irritating. It's almost like she can't trust her friends because of some weird lingering fear that they will judge her. Hasn't she been through enough with them to trust them at this point?

 

I also don't like how bland she is. She's shy, quiet, and preserved until she needs to step out of her character and be assertive. It's something they've played out too many times and it just gets very boring after awhile.

 

As for weather or not she's overrated, well, I don't know. A lot of people like her but that's not to say that she's overrated. The majority of a lot of people just like her because she does cute things, and yeah cute things are awesome. For me though, her personality just doesn't make anything she does cute. Sometimes I have my, "Oh Fluttershy~" moments, so I do confess to having some moments with her, but for the most part I find myself just rolling my eyes.

 

First things first, if you are the same dBPony who did those awesome songs that got featured in EQD, then right now, I am bowing to you. Seriously. I love them with my freaking heart.

 

But my fanboyism aside, I know it's your opinion, and I respect that, but I find that you're lacking a bit of the...erm...let's call it "putting yourself in someone's/pony's shoes/hooves". I mean, yes it's true. She's shy as all hell, and it's one of the main reasons why she is so irrestible to many, myself included. But truth is, lots of shy people IRL are actually like that. AKA, can't even fully trust their friends completely, or at least open themselves to them. Besides, the irony is that, aside from Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy normally hangs around with the ones who normally tend to be WAY more social than her, AKA Rarity and Rainbow Dash. Being around those two, then her shyness is even MORE in the spotlight. Even Twilight who tends to be less social is far, far more expressive than Fluttershy.

 

If the little of the background story of Fluttershy helps (thanks to Cutie Mark Chronicles), the only ones she really opens herself with is the animals she takes care of. But I think there's a reason why. Aside from saving her life, which her friends have done too, SHE is the one who does things for THEM, not the other way around. She is the one who helps her animals. Either do stuff, healing them, etc. While with her friends, it's them who tend to do things for her, rather than the other way around. That lack of initiative for doing things is one of the main reasons she tends to close instead of open, her normal behaviour aside.

 

Besides, shyness doesn't really have any grey points, or if it does, it's really, really difficult to find them and use them. Let alone with how extreme Fluttershy tends to do things. She can't get the animals to like her? BOOM! Psychoshy appears. She found a way to make herself assertive? BOOM! Becames a bully that Gilda would be rather proud of, and even afraid of. Lots of ponies used to pick on her and animals saved her life? BOOM Get yourself a house far away from the city even if it means being close to a dangerous forest, and love the ones who saved you from death. After each episode, I think there WAS a change in her behaviour (although Hurricane Fluttershy isn't really noticed due to how close to the ending was), but since her friends actually are WAY mroe social and open than her...it doesn't really get noticed. There are occasions shown, for example, when she refused to go the see the dragon migration, for example. But, it really is difficult to develop a shy character.

 

Then again, ignore me if you wish, because aside from being your opinion, this is all especulation. Imma just don't think she's boring, that's all.

This! So much this! Rarity is 1st, and Fluttershy is 2nd on my list (the rest all tie in 3rd ), but honestly, I love them all! I'd love more character with Fluttershy, but then again, so with everypony else!

 

The problem is that it is an eternal fight. Hopefully, one day, there won't be a fight not unlike The Hunger Games (which I haven't seen nor read, but I know what it is about), where each district represents a pony. And in the end, only a person of each will survive. And only then they will realize, how wrong they were.

 

With all hope, the phrase "Everypony is best pony" becomes more used, and only favorites remain...

Lots of people like Fluttershy, but that doesn't mean she's overrated. It's just that more and more people are coming to their senses and are realizing that she truly is the best pony.

 

In all serious, I wouldn't call any of the ponies overrated. Yes, there are Fluttershy fans who are very vocal about Fluttershy. I'm guilty of being one of them...

 

However, that doesn't change anything, because guess what? There are Rainbow Dash fans who are very vocal, Pinkie Pie fans who are very vocal, Derpy Hooves fans that are very vocal, Luna fans who are... I think you get the point.

 

There are going to be vocal fans for every pony, because people have their own tastes and preferences, and they enjoy celebrating them and letting their Brony-Bros know why their pony is their favorite.

 

As you can see from the poll on the site, Fluttershy is one of the more popular ponies, which means there are more fans, which means there will be more vocal fans. Just because there are more fans doesn't mean that she's overrated. It just means that more people like her. It's not like they don't like the other ponies, it's just that Fluttershy is their favorite.

 

No pony is overrated, and no pony is underrated. Everypony loves every pony. While some people might like a certain pony more than others, they still love all the other ponies.

I have revised my opinion on this issue. It is impossible for a mane character to be overrated as they all have tremendous importance to the show. So no, Fluttershy is not overrated. As the best pony poll will indicate there are many who like her more than I do, but that is just a matter of opinion and taste. The only characters that I consider truly overrated are Derpy and Trixie

What's overrated? Assuming the word has any meaning, it's completely relative. I'm sure that, to some, Fluttershy is overrated. To others she is underrated. And to still others, she is neither.

 

Sorry if that doesn't seem like much of a contribution, but it's all I've got. I will also take this opportunity to wish a Fluttershy stare on the next brony who starts a thread about something being overrated.

Yes she is very overrated, in the vicinity of overrated with Derpy. I never found her cute at all, and she's just annoying, if you ask why she is a bit too shy about everything, and shy doesn't make you cute, so sorry, but she is my least favorite of the mane 6.

in my opinion there is a difference. I'm a tennis player and often when that is brought up someone will say that Federer or Nadal is awesome. Now, that is a relatively uninformed statement, but a true one. If anything, they are underrating the rest if the tennis world, or people who only know Dash are underrating the rest of the MLP characters, not overrating her.

I think her shyness prevents her from having a lot of character depth...I don't find her as interesting as the others. She is somewhat overrated for her cuteness, but i think thats understandable.

I'm not saying she's overrated, but I believe that why other people believe she's overrated, is because...

 

She's adorable. The only reason why she's the top pony is just because she's so D'AWWWWWW.

 

It does piss me off, but I'm not gonna say that it's not a valid reason for her being liked. Sure, it's not a very good reason in my opinion, but it's valid nonetheless. I really do wish thought that people would focus more, or at least like her for, her personality instead of just her cuteness. Sure, she is a weak pony, and if she wasn't adorable I don't know how many fans she would have.
