So what do y'all think of the "horror pony" videos and pictures?

I've seen this sort of thing before where some fans turn cartoons and such into the most horror/gore-filled videos and pictures they can imagine just to scare people.

 

But what do you think of them? Do you think they are a disgrace because of what the show is originally like? Do you not care just because it's just another fan thing? Or do you perhaps like them for one reason or another?

 

Personally, I find myself intrigued by them. Perhaps for the mere contrast they have with the MLP show. I don't like it in a disturbing kind of way but more as an art appreciator kind of way, seeing such a difference from the original is truly intriguing, even if it's just as a means of defacing the name of MLP. You could say I'm more a fan of the contrast it represents rather than the content of the material itself.

 

To avoid scaring the bejeezus out of anyone I won't post anything and if you do please try to put spoiler tags around it so people don't accidentally look at it and scar themselves.

I find them interesting because they depict images and situations that could never be shown in the actual show. I like them because I'm a fan of horror as well. I don't think they are a disgrace as they don't have any effect on the show, and are just fanart.

Honestly? I'm bored by them, the same way I'm bored by nearly all horror & gore movies. Add to the list the various creeepypastas, the majority of which are only even vaguely creepy. There are occasional standouts, but they are so rare as to be almost impossible to find.

 

Basically, most of them are as horrifying as a child's jack-in-the-box. Oooh! It jumped out at me! The musical sting tells me I should be scared! Ooooh! It's bleeding all over the carpet! That's going to be a pain to clean!

I honestly don't really like anything horror-esque. If I see a picture of 'horror ponies' as you called it, I'll scroll down the page so I don't have to see it. Even though it's just fan art, the next time I see a cute picture of Pinkie Pie then I might be reminded of the 'Cupcakes' video. Not always, though.

The same way I feel about horror in general, I am mostly just bored with it. I usually don't like gore for the sake of gore unless it is so over the top that it becomes comical like in Cupcakes for example not because I am disgusted or offended by it but because I find it boring and unoriginal. There are some good ones out there but they can be a bit difficult to find, a good horror can contain gore but if you use it too much than it loses its power, it is like trying to perform surgery with a chainsaw instead of a scapal it just dosen't work.

I like my share of horror and gore. But I like things that are more subtle. Stuff that isn't so over the top that it just makes me go "Yeah, that's nice..."

I like Horror, and I like My Little Pony
However, I also like ice cream, and I like also like Ketchup, and those honestly don't go too well together...
I don't know where I'm going with this..

 

I'm fine with it, but I don't really enjoy it that much but that's probably because most of the horror stories aren't really that good, in my opinion.. Apart from maybe Rainbow Factory, despite the out-of-place swearing.
I also like the Cupcakes HD video, but probably because of how over-the-top it is, and I am a very sick person

It depends, like any other genre. Some of it can make for an interesting and different take on the series and can be quite creative, and other examples can be lazy and uninspired. I like MisterDavie's video for Cupcakes for instance, because I like the high energy, balls out crazy, over the top feel. But then I read a fic called Rarity's New Dress, which just a tired and poorly written shock fic.

 

Some of them can take a unique approach and do it with some real style (like the aforementioned Cupcakes video) but others just seem to think that being gory and dark is enough. I don't care about the gore, just put some effort into what you're making.
