Hello, roleplayers!

Noticed the change yet? Well, I'm sure you're like “ERMAGHERD WHERT'S GOING ON?” I'll get straight to the point.

Oh, and if you haven't yet...here. :)

There's going to be a few slight changes in RP World that I'm sure you might like (or not). My first and foremost goal is, really, to provide a fun experience in the forums for roleplaying. With that in mind, I've decided to reduce the OOC character limit to 75. I've realized after a while that forcing people to add an extra sentence to their posts and then checking to make sure that's they're not dumping filler there is, quite frankly, a huge pain. And to be honest, as long as you're not putting anything unsafe or offensive in your OOC, I'm fine with your short posts.

However, I'd also like you all to please note that this is not a relaxing of OOC forum rules. If you DO get caught posting filler, especially after the character minimum has been reduced like this, the RP Mods will have no mercy. So please...don't. It only clutters up the forums, anyway. :(

Secondly, you may have noticed a shiny new subforum called “Advanced Roleplays”, and its own character limit of...wait for it...800! Hear me out before you kill me - this is my attempt to sort out the roleplays that demand a bit more detail and thought from the fast-paced free for alls. How can I utilize this new subforum, you ask? It's simple – create the OOC thread like you normally would, but create the actual RP in “Advanced Roleplays” instead of just regular ol' Roleplays (Do make sure to properly label your OOC thread either way, so that others know which type it is). I do advise you guys to check it out – especially for those of ya who want to create a more storylike experience in your roleplaying. If you're unsure, or want a bit of help with your roleplay posts, remember that I'm always here to help you improve; just send me a PM. :)

And since 800-character roleplay posts are, quite honestly, longer than most other posts I've seen on other parts of the forums...all advanced roleplay posts will again start counting for the post count. ^^ Also, if you have your own roleplay that you'd like to move to this section, give one of the RP mods a call and we'll move it for ya.

And lastly, be sure to check Canterlot Castle every once in a while, to get all the RP-related news you need. :)

That's all for now, cheers!

I hope this turns out to be a good move. From what I heard during my time as a moderator, Roleplay World was always hectic as fuck on both sides (moderating AND participating) and thus it drove Arylett mad. I hope you and Ice Storm don't suffer remotely the same fate.

You know, this'll be perfect for the future RP I was planning. It'll hopefully make the posts improve in quality, if not at least in quantity.

I hope to use this soon :3

I've never been involved in Roleplaying. Unless you count me being a union soldier during a Civil War Reenactment. And if you count me being a Bolshevik during a Red Revolution reenactment....

If it's as fun as the two things I've been in it sounds great then!

Eight hundred characters? Well, if you average about 7.5 characters per word, it's around 100 words which is the equivalent to 2/5 of a page (via Microsoft word MLA format.)

It's possible(at least for myself.), but I think the only problem would be the dialogue scenes. I don't know how anybody(pony) would be able to stretch out something as simple as saying, "No, I don't like pie." when it's just a simple pony to pony conversation. Other than that, I think it's a pretty fantastic idea and will be posting there in the future.

I'm glad this was implemented. When I role play I try my hardest to make long, more meaningful posts. This 800 character limit should ensure that I'm role playing with others like myself who enjoy a slow, detailed role play. The sub-forums itself should ensure that I'm looking at the right role play to be a part of.

Thanks! :D

I'm glad to see this getting positive feedback!

On a side note, you might have noticed that the promised OOC character limit reduction and Advanced RPs character implementation haven't actually happened yet - we're fixing it, and hope to have it soon.

Keep your ears out, we've got another little thing we're working on, too. :)

I think the only problem would be the dialogue scenes. I don't know how anybody(pony) would be able to stretch out something as simple as saying, "No, I don't like pie." when it's just a simple pony to pony conversation.

It's definitely possible to roleplay a dialogue - without making it sound like filler fluff. Here's an example of an easily-500 character paragraph that answers the pie question.

~~~
Pinkie Pie: "Do you like pie?"
Rainbow Dash: Rainbow Dash blanched as soon as the word "pie" had left Pinkie's mouth, thoughts of the vile pastry immediately filling her brain. Although it had been ages since she had last so much as sniffed a pie, she still shivered involuntarily, disgusted, as she vividly recalled the way that her mother had shoved the contents of an apple pie down filly Dash's own throat, despite her protest. Even now, she still didn't know which was worse - the sickeningly moist outer crust of the pie or the gooey apple filler that seemed like it belonged in a jar of glue more than it did in actual food.
"No," Dash answered firmly, stamping her hoof on the ground for emphasis. "I do NOT like pie."
~~~

That little response paragraph was easily 500+ words, more than half of the required minimum. With a bit of thought, you could expand on that memory, or comment on some other part of the roleplay. Also, remember that Pinkie's dialogue would be more than just "Do you like pie?" since her player has to fill the character minimum as well. You could comment on something else Pinkie said, change the subject and continue the conversation yourself, describe scenery, etc, to get 300 additional words in for the limit. Does it seem like a bit more work than in other roleplays where you could just respond "No, I don't like pie?" Yes. Is it also more detailed, and a more enjoyable read for every roleplayer involved? I should hope so. :)

I'm not saying it isn't possible. You've done it, and I've done it before as well. Details are an amazing things that we used. However, there will be points where that isn't possible. I can't think of one at this point, but there will be one where that can be a problem.

Awesome!!! 75 for OCC's!!!

About advanced RPing.... Um... Here is an attempted...

A sunny day in ponyville with a clout just to the north view of canterlot... The leaves were a bright shade of green and were gently waving around with the wind...

Screw it... I'm going to say away from advanced RPing... It would take a day for 800 Charicters to... Do things.. Lol

I really like this. I'll definitely check out some Advanced RPs, my main reason for not joining RPs here was the rapidfire posting of meh stuff that we see in so many RPs :/

I've actually been very hesitant to partake in any of the roleplays on this site, for I've always been afraid of there being a lack of developing story and a slowly dying thread in general.

For Advanced Roleplay, do we need to be rather "known" in order to participate, or is it really just a free for all for all those who are willing to post 800 char.+ quality posts?

I've been around on the internet, and there are many different roleplay sections that function very differently; some only allowing highly known roleplayers to participate in some of the bigger ones being introduced. I'm not sure if anything like that is in place, here.

wow I final start RPing again and this happens.

you know what i give up because you have alienated me from RPing because i don't need 800 characters to create a detailed post for a advanced RP and now you have crated more RP that i will likely be rejected for (since that not happened enough already)

also what will separate a advanced from a normal RP?

also since when did over 200+ character post not count as high quality? seriously i'm p :( sed that s :( t like and were just gonna say its a great idea because people who love to RP can't do so anymore.

Err...you DO realize that the majority of roleplays are still in the regular 200 character-limit roleplay section, yes? :huh:

Well...to be quite honest, it's the RP creator's decision whether he wants to make it an advanced roleplay or not. I hold no influence over that decision; I'm simply making it easier for them to accomplish their goals and enforce their own rules, which they should have been able to do in the first place.

True but who is to blame if they do and some one like me has to drop out because he can't stretch something out to 800 god damn characters?

I am sick of this idea that high quality has to come from filling in every detail and stretched post to be longer then they need to be over just having passion in you're character and wanting to advance the story. and i'm pi :( ed with the fact that so many RPers think this.

so yeah I know were all this is gonna end up going so, thank you.

Only yourself, mate. If the DM creates an advanced roleplay, he knows does so because he accepts the 800 character limit and expects, as the DM, that his players will also follow the limit. If you don't like it, just find a different roleplay to join, it's very simple. :)
