Minimum character adjustments

While a number of you are no doubt already aware, some adjustments have been made to the character minimums on a couple boards. The following areas have been modified:

 

• Feedback & Suggestions minimuum dropped to 10 from 100. Given that this is not a discussion board, it was decided that requiring longer posts when an extremely brief answer might work was unnecessary.
• Commissions minimum removed entirely to avoid interfering with attempts at doing business.
• Roleplay OOC minimum dropped to 75.

As a reminder, the minimum character requirements are not set in stone and will continue to be adjusted when deemed appropriate. We will keep you posted on any further changes that we make.

Now if only MLP:FiM itself had minimum character adjustments, there would no longer be Snips, Snails, and most importantly, the Great and Powerful Trixie.

 

These make sense. I would still suggest adjusting Creative Resources most specifically for topics OC related whether it's someone requesting OCs to use in their project or people wanting their OCs drawn, etc.

I noticed these before this thread even existed. I feel special.

 

I would say that the Feedback & Suggestions section should be raised a little higher, say, 25 or so, because ten characters could be "I like this :3", which is just absolutely pointless in every way, but I presume all you higher-ups know what you're doing.

With all the hype on the news about a younger generation that can't read or write. I actually think the character limit should remain as is. I have read through previous post(s) I had when I was a newcomer. It lacked content, and didn't offer too much to what the actual topic of the thread was. I'd fight to have the character limit as 100. It forces users to actually put "some thought" into their posts. Before I was just putting out silly crap, whether it would be feedback or a simple answers/opinions without any thought being put into it. A thread is supposed to be the kinder, and the users the spark. How can we encourage more content to be posted? Not a lot of us are looking for small answers. What if someone is expecting critique for their artwork? A serious discussion about Global Warming? Has a serious relationship problem? They are not seeking small answers, they want a strong paragraph of words explaining yourself on your ideas. Or a brohoof... I don't know.

 

I myself, have started to get better at writing. I used to be pretty bad, because I never liked reading, and wasn't too fond of writing. I think the forum influenced me to write more. I think other members should be blessed with this change, because they'll receive more content if they start a thread.

I brohoof this. Good thinking in which sections and all. I don't really mind the character limit, as I usually post a good enough amount to override it.

 

Hopefully this will keep members on track and to have them post more. Again, good choice in balancing the system.

It's good to know this issue has been actively monitored and actions are being taken in regards to it. Still, I just don't understand why the character limit was an issue in the first place, I thought it was nothing but a good thing when it was instated. But on the other hand, there's reasons I'm not a forum leader. Probably a good example right there. Keep up the good work y'all!

I really like the idea of a character minimum on this site. It really defends the place from spam and obnoxious replies, like "tl:dr" or "I pwned hath spoken." Sure, occasionally I have to add a few words to my writing and it makes it look stupid, but I still think it was ingenious, probably being one of the things that makes the community on here so mature and fun. (Unlike some other forum sites I know...) *cough*4CHAN *cough*

I think that this is a vast improvement to the forums.

 

I was kinda thinking about suggesting a lowering in some of these boards, because it seems kinda pointless having a character limit in boards that don't really provoke much discussion.
