I want to help......but.......

Flicker Sweet

Recommended Posts

I love this website, I truely do. I understand that I'm not needed as a mod, and I'm fine with that. But I really want to know what I can do to help the Forums otherwise. I cannot donate due to unemployment, and I have opted to in-site ads. I still feel like I should be doing more......What can I do?

Is this the third thread you make about this?

There is really not much you can do, Red.

Just enjoy your stay here as a member. Can't be any better than that.

I'd also love to help support this forum in some way, I am also supporting the site with ads, and I can't donate mainly because I'm only 14.

Red, I cannot tell you how much you remind me of myself right now. I felt the exact. Same. Way. For the longest time I wanted to help my favorite community in any way posible, but I couldn't donate. I opt'd in to ads, which made me feel better for one which you have already done. That alone makes a significant difference. The more people who opt in and see those ads, the more support the forums receive.

Although I did manage to donate later, one of my favorite ways of contributing to this forum is reporting. I report threads and/or posts for the moderators and they appreciate it a lot. It makes their job easier and sometimes you catch things they miss. It feels great knowing you're helping when things like that happen.

Finally, if you really want to contribute just enjoy the community, make friends, and show the staff you care! My staff theme project was one way I chose to show that I highly respect the staff and appreciate what they have done for our community. I'm sure you can think of a way to show your care, whether it be through talent, involvement or helping around.

Honestly you would be surprised how big of an impact the little things can have. :)

Red lol, you're so adorable!! (almost like a small child)

anyways, you can help in multiple ways!, what (SBB64/) said is a great idea! also you can be welcoming the new ponies everytime you can, that helps a lot! I felt really good when other ponies welcomed me In the Welcome Plaza.

Show blank flanks the rules, when they do mistakes (like posting something innapropiate, or create threads in the wrong section), I bet they're innocents and don't know well about them. Brohoof and compliment and encourage shy ponies to participate, that's like a major boost for them. These are the things that comes to my mind now. ^_^

Don't forget to just be you!! ;)

People seem to think that being a staff is the be all end all of aiding the site, when in fact, we're just the janitors who are only part of the equation.

Encourage others to make great posts by making great posts yourself!

Report! It helps more than you think. ;)

A combination of these two posts, Red. The staff, this forum, everything would be pointless if it wasn't for this fantastic community that we have, and therefore, one of the best things you can do as a member is stay active, have fun, make quality posts and just enjoy the ride as the forum treks forward into season three and beyond.

Protip: Same as Motion Spark mentioned about the Welcoming Plaza. I'm always telling people to post in Welcoming Plaza more often, because the more greetings noobs get, the more likely they are to give this place a chance to grow on them, so they can become regulars. So yeah, greeting people more often is always good, too. And that goes for everyone, staff and non-staff alike.

And then, yes, reporting. Knowing if something shouldn't be here is not hard to figure out after all, even if you're a member. You know the board rules, and you can usually tell if something doesn't belong in a certain section and needs to be moved, or if someone is bypassing the character limit, etc. Reporting makes a staff's ideal mission to clean up the forum a lot easier, so doing that is indefinitely appreciated.

That's about the size of it :3

I don't know what more I could add that has not been said, at this point I am probably beating a dead.....tree

but help just be enjoying the forums and reporting, that's what I do!

Don't feel obligated to help, these forums were meant for your enjoyment. And as hollowshield said, just make well crafted posts, not saying they have to be perfect, but contribute to conversations and as I said, just have fun!

Also, reporting is a good way to help as well, with a forum as big as this, it can be hard to keep track of everything, so just report any infractions you encounter, like a topic being posted in the wrong subforum or area.

Just by being on the forums and enjoying you are helping enough, so do not feel bad ^_- (I think that's supposed to be a wink...*shrugs*)

We all want to help out this forum: It's very fun to be in.

The best you can do is obey the forum rules, be a kind and loving member, and I'm sure that will be god enough. It doesn't have to be anything fancy! As long as you truly appreciate this forum, and try your best to be a very good member, I'm sure you can make everypony smile! Sometimes doing those little things help.

Don't worry! Your a good member. just stay that way, and be yourself. ;)

This is pretty much already answered by everyone else, but I'll give it a go anyway.

Mods are chosen for a reason. They are good users who posts quality posts, have good judgement, report things, etc. etc. They were already helping out the forums before they were mods, as can you. Report things, for one thing. There's always some post out there that's in need of a moderation check, so look around when you're browsing a thread to see if anything is out of place, useless, and all the other things that qualify a post as worth reporting. This helps in tons of ways, I know, and I'm not even a mod.

Another good thing to do is to keep a positive attitude and be active, everywhere. All the time. Be positive and brighten up peoples' days with good content about your views on things. Come up with things worth discussion and start threads on them. Keep the forum active. A more active forum means more active users, and more active users means more friends being advised to join, and more people joining means a bigger, better forum that will very likely get more technical staff, general staff, and more features being implemented. It's just like a business. The more customers you have, the more money you get, and then you can better your business.

Being a better person and a better user motivates others to be better users as well, which leads to exponential awesomeness. Sorry for such generic advice, but this about all you can do, for now.

It's easy to underestimate just how much a personal response to an intro thread could mean to a new member. I've lost count of how many people here said they chose to stick around at MLP Forums mostly because of the excellent responses to their Welcoming Plaza threads.

So if you're looking for something to do that can brighten the site's future, spend some time in that section making our new members feel right at home. Any one of them could turn out to be everyone's new best friend. :)

Yeah, I know that feeling, but actually, you're making the site grow just by posting!

Every post that you make is contributing to the site's stats, meaning that it will continue to grow and expand even more than it has already.
