Steel Accord 6,660 June 6, 2016 Share June 6, 2016 Quick question guys. So, I joined my guild a few months ago and we've had exactly one session of RPing. It's been mostly dead and the head of the guild says that's mainly because they are busy and will come back for Legion. So I should ask, is that really reasonable? To wait till the next expansion just to do what I joined this guild to do? Advance my character's personal story by interacting with others? I mean solo RP can only satisfy one for so long. Mr F 1,522 June 9, 2016 Share June 9, 2016 is that really reasonable? I would say that it is not very reasonable. To wait for months before doing something actively is just silly. Blizzard has said they want to make yearly releases, so the guild could end up very inactive in the long run. But idk how active RP guilds in general are. Blizzard has said they want to make yearly releases, so the guild could end up very inactive in the long run. But idk how active RP guilds in general are. Depends on the server. Wyrmrest Accord and Moonguard are the largest RP servers (the latter is infamously known for its "Pornshire", the haven of bad ERP and Level 58 Death Knights). I play on Emerald Dream a lot, which is pretty big. Unfortunately RP-PvP servers aren't particularly popular. Usually Alliance-Horde ratios help determine whether guilds are active or not as well. A disproportionate Alliance-Horde ratio usually suggests that the server is pretty much dying (the lack of PvP and enemy-related RP usually pulls people out). But idk how active RP guilds in general are. This isn't a Blizzard thing. It's just that my guild is very inactive right now. Depends on the server. Wyrmrest Accord and Moonguard are the largest RP servers I'm on the one that has half of my namesake. Usually Alliance-Horde ratios help determine whether guilds are active or not as well. A disproportionate Alliance-Horde ratio usually suggests that the server is pretty much dying (the lack of PvP and enemy-related RP usually pulls people out). Not the case with with RP realms, which aren't dependent on a competitive faction balance for obvious reasons. It would make RPing on one side or the other harder but still not impossible. Even low population isn't quite as much of a handicap as only a dozen people can make a fun RP. In fact too many people at once in the same scene would make it hard to flow. Celli 4,356 June 10, 2016 Share June 10, 2016 Looks like Legacy servers might possibly be a thing, after the shutdown of Nostalrius: Thoughts? I would be pretty interested in this, and it would make me want to remain resubbed, so that I can level a character in Vanilla, along side my characters in the current version.

I am very impressed, proud, but not at all surprised that Blizzard actually brought in the Nostalrius team for a talk. 1 My ponysona: http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/steel-accord-r1970 My AMA thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/76698-as-steel-me-andor-oc/

Twiggy 2,967 June 16, 2016 Share June 16, 2016 My friend has convinced me to start playing again after we went to see the movie together. Gonna just stick to PvP though. PvE has become kind of irksome to me. The dungeons themselves are more or less still decent. The raids have gotten a little too easy for my taste, because Raid Finder. But mostly it's the people. I remember when the dungeon finder first came out in Wrath. If there was even one wipe, 4/5 times either a Tank or a Healer would rage quit, usually blaming the other side in a fairly rude fashion first. Sure, it took longer when you had to find a group manually by asking in General/Trade chat, but the people would be willing to stick it out longer. Plus, the rewards and sense of accomplishment were far greater as well. I remember thinking, "I sure hope they never do this with raids. That would really suck." They did, and it was the same as above. Except this time, its a random group of upwards of 25 people. Most of which do not know what they're doing. The proper response to complaints of raid difficulty should have been "git gud", but instead they just made Raid Finder into a babies first teddy simulator. It's harder than ever before to find a raid group, or a guild that raids regularly that doesn't have a rigid, obsessive compulsive roster. /rant I still enjoy PvP though, and I've been having fun doing the questing in general, though WoD seems to focus too much on single player rather than MMO. Hopefully that will change in Legion. My Ask Thread

Definitely worth watching if you're a fan of Warcraft in any capacity. I feel like the negative critical response has been a tad overblown It was a severe butchering of initial WoW lore and again, focuses too much on the main human + orc races and not much else. It always expects non-fans to somehow know the lore and gives little to no reason of "why should I care about this?" It doesn't connect to any particular theme, you don't feel very connected with characters like Gul'dan (being the antagonist because "for the evulz"). Really, the common mistake of video game movies is that they try too hard to make it look flashy like a Michael Bay film but have no real immersion in it. It never answers why you should sympathize the characters or the universe that you're in, doesn't bother to explain how everything happened, the characters are too flat and lack development, and they treat it like a game and not a real movie. All the video game movies of the last 20 years or so have always been given horrible ratings and there's a good reason why.
Guest90210 3,569 June 16, 2016 Share June 16, 2016 It was a severe butchering of initial WoW lore I personally think it would have been bland to keep the movie's lore identical to the established lore and not stray off the path at some point. I wouldn't call it a "butchering", rather, a re-imagining. and again, focuses too much on the main human + orc races and not much else. It always expects non-fans to somehow know the lore and gives little to no reason of "why should I care about this?" It doesn't connect to any particular theme, you don't feel very connected with characters like Gul'dan (being the antagonist because "for the evulz"). They tried to give some backstory, but didn't fully succeed. I feel like they should have spent a little more time building upon the world, apart from the characters. However, over-doing it with backstory leaves the filmmakers with a problem: People usually don't care for "origin stories", they just want to get into the world and its characters. If they spent too much time explaining the characters and their origins, this risks alienating those who already know the world's lore. If you don't explain enough, you risk alienating the new audience. They attempted to strike a middle ground. As a WoW player since 2005, I loved the characters and their portrayals, especially Lothar. So I'm a biased when it comes to caring for the characters. But my brother who watched it with me enjoyed the film as well, and he knew next to nothing about the lore. It wasn't executed perfectly, sure, but I feel they did give decent reasoning to feel sympathy for the characters. They explained the individual plights of the Orcs and Humans, and gave us interesting and diverse characters to ponder over. It is true that they didn't really explain where all the Fel Magic came from, and why it has all that raw power. I would have liked more insight into Azeroth itself, but overall I enjoyed the film for what it was. It has potential for a few sequels.

I don't know, why are you? I've not boosted my main to WoD because Pandaria is his most significant character arc. So I got an RP excuse, what's yours for torturing yourself? :-P (And it also means I'll effectively skip WoD all together. So forever it will be the expansion everyone hated except me by simply virtue of never having gone through it. Although prior to Legion I was planning on going into WoD with effectively an anti-chip on my shoulder.) Of course, I'll probably be focusing more on an Alliance rogue and Horde shaman anyways. My problem is that I don't like playing evil themed classes. Which, I know Demon Hunters' entire thing is, you know, hunting demons but I've never prescribed to the "fight hellfire with hellfire" school of thought. It's the same reason I never made a Death Knight. I am tempted solely because I just found out something about the Fel Hammer, their order hall that I have been sorely lacking of since Burning Crusade. Plus I get focusing on your mains. I'm going to be focusing on my Monk and maybe my Paladin if I must boost him.
