PonyRocker95 106 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 I don't know if anyone else is wondering this too or if its just me but why, when people make fan art of Celestia and Luna as fillys they always make Celestia s mane and tail pink? why is it not the respective rainbow color it should be? LightRaider 148 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 Because it looks nice. That is how i always saw it, and i like it. Luna's used to look nice, But then it turned into the starry mane she has now, because it represents her duties. We like to believe that celestia's also did this, but it changed to the rainbow it is now because it represents how the light gives everything color.
Starshine 16,333 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 Blame Hasbro and their pink Celestia toys It's because a younger Celestia sometimes looks better with pink hair, instead of the Rainbow-y one. And don't forget that in the opening of the 1st episode, you can see Celestia depicted with pink hair.
Discovery Dream 592 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 I think it's because Luna had a solid blue mane in the first season, then it changed to starry-translucent in season two. I think people just built off of that and figured that alicorn manes start opaque, then grow translucent when they mature. That is the nature of fanon, after all. 3 no rest for the wizardly. AnonBrony 1,468 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 (edited) I guess when people saw Lunas hair style when she was younger they also assumed Celestia had a similar hairstyle when she was younger too. But then they matured and get their manes change. Why people chose pink... i have no idea why. But it suits her. I seriously never saw or probably never noticed before. idk I personally thing it looks weird pink although I think Luna's looks good both ways. I always kind of thought that the solid blue mane for Luna was an animation error, they realized their mistake then changed and/or fixed it in season 2. 1 My RP OC's Alona: http://mlpforums.com...s/_/alona-r1797 Craie: http://mlpforums.com...s/_/craie-r1873 Berry Cream: http://mlpforums.com...rry-cream-r1874

Yellow Diamond 7,565 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 I find it hard to believe that the animators simply goofed when it came to pre-Night Mare Moon Celestia having a pink mane and tail. Granted, I have not found any canonical response to this apparent inconsistency; the best answer I could muster (and it is entirely speculative) is that Celestia's mane changed in accordance with her increased power and responsibility. Luna's mane changing from the end of "Friendship is Magic" to "Luna Eclipsed" is probably just an inconsistency produced by DHX Media going in a slightly different creative direction. (Although I vaguely recall Lauren Faust mentioning Luna's appearance changing. She definitely made reference to Luna being younger and less mature than Celestia.) 7 Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te.
I used to be a stranger 7,993 October 20, 2012 Share October 20, 2012 If put into realistic portrayal I seriously doubt the separate colours in Celstia's mane would be so hard-lined between each other. At strictest, her mane would look like it was very carefully dyed, and at most free-form she looks like she has an aurora borealis latched to the back of her skull.
Why? 5 March 7, 2015 Share March 7, 2015 My theory is that her mane didn't turn into rainbow shape until she realized that they must defeat Discord and forgot about the past, cuz now it´s what counting.
Tao 7,452 March 7, 2015 Share March 7, 2015 I think she might use a type of Glamor spell to make her hair look all rainbows and flowing a bit. I've come on fimfics that touch on that a bit. I mean when she sleeps, does it flow? Keep all pretty and silky and how would you even clean a mane like that?
cmarston1 5,959 March 7, 2015 Share March 7, 2015 While I do like her rainbow mane over the pink mane she is sometimes associated with, how do we know if that is her real mane? For all we know that this: could be canon. I kind of would like to say that happen to be honest. It would be hilarious.
sweetolebob18 728 March 8, 2015 Share March 8, 2015 Well, it's canon she likes cake. I think she turned her hair the color of tutti fruitti sherbet because that's what she likes with her cake
MysticShine 529 March 8, 2015 Share March 8, 2015 A lot of it has to do with how Luna's mane looked in the first episode. A lot of people assume that Celestia's was similar when she was younger / weaker.
UnknownFry 169 March 8, 2015 Share March 8, 2015 (edited) Celestia's mane was depicted as her current color in the Reflections Comic Arc, and that is an example of a younger Celestia as far as any official materials are concerned outside the show. I don't think her mane has changed colors at all truth be told. and the whole pink mane is just an oversimplified depiction her mane Flowing manes on the other hand may have something to with a magical energy as Twilight seemingly almost got one in Twilight's Kingdom after the whole power transfer. Unikitty 1,212 March 8, 2015 Share March 8, 2015 (edited) I like to think that, as their powers grew so did their bodies. We've seen form Cadence and Twilight that Alicorns can have different bodytypes, so it's easy to imagine they change as they grow more powerful. Their manes are just a culmination of all their built up magical prowess. Like an ascension of sorts. Edited March 8, 2015 by Unikitty
HereComesTom 2,259 March 8, 2015 Share March 8, 2015 Celestia's mane was depicted as her current color in the Reflections Comic Arc, and that is an example of a younger Celestia as far as any official materials are concerned outside the show. Was she a filly, or a young adult in that comic? My headcanon has always been that, if an alicorn grows enough in power and age, they get the flowing mane with multiple colors. But I don't know if that's what the writers think. I also feel like the pre-NMM Celestia from the flashbacks in the S4 opening should've had a different-colored mane, but they just grabbed her current graphics and used those instead to save time. Young Adult. I suppose it is possible that that her mane could have changed with time with an increase in magical growth though.
Prince Firemane 309 March 10, 2015 Share March 10, 2015 It's mainly because, as has been said, the narrative opening of the first episode depicted Celestia with a pink mane. When Luna was returned, she had the solid blue mane that mostly matched the one given to her drawing in the narrative opening. Not to mention, in Twilight's Kingdom, the same narrative style was used to give a bit of backstory on Tirek, Celestia was again shown with a pink mane. Flowing manes and tails on Celestia and Luna seems to me to be a reflection of their power and their Patrons, as their manes and tails stopped flowing when they transferred their magic to Twilight. Though why they retained their translucence and multiple colors; I'm not sure. If this is the case, it seems that Cadance and Twilight will both eventually have flowing manes and tails as well.

ArcheoPony 76 March 14, 2015 Share March 14, 2015 Journal of the Two Sisters hint that there's an alicorn race. The mane thing could possibly be a thing attributed to them. Probably something that happens as they're maturing into adulthood or have an increase in magical power.
Spikey-Wikey 378 July 28, 2015 Share July 28, 2015 If they ever show her Filly version, I hope it's not a pink mane... Not everything fanon should become canon. Otherwise there would be no fun with fanon.
